    I own this bike. At first it felt kinda dead to be homest. Swapped the tires for Maxxis and put it in the high setting mode. Totally changed the bike. Now it feels alot like my old 2015' trail bike but if I'm going to a bikepark I can but the old tires back in low mode.
    My only problem with this bike is the paint quality. I guess they have to make compromises somewhere to get down at this price point.
    Nice review mate.

    Wow! Jason thanks for all the time, effort and expense you have put in to making these free videos for us to enjoy. It's okay if you don't think my 1989 Cannondale M2000 is very good. : ) For every negative post there are probably 100's of people that you never hear from that you have helped in their decision making on a new bike. I bought a Pivot Mach 6 after watching your '1st impression' review on that miserable tech. trail in Moab. I would never have the chance to ride as many bikes as you have reviewed. Thanks again and you were right about that mach 6 ... I'll never do it justice with my ability, but I am enjoying it.

    Bought the minimize hydration pack thanks a lot for the code. Also bought the Trail Truffles. Can’t wait to get them.
    That pack was exactly what I was looking for. I didn’t want a $200 bladder thing. With that pack I can have my snake juice in one bottle and water in the other or any mix I want. Now I can do the 100 miles in my Gravel thanks to this pack.
    2 bottles on the bike. Two on my back plus all my things without cutting the circulation from my shoulders to my hands with my currently cheap backpack.
    Thanks, can’t wait to receive it.

      I have the 29er and I'm 210. I agree, I think this is definitely a bike for bigger riders. It's my only bike, and I think it's the best bike I've ever ridden. Love mine! The first time that I took it down Jacobs Ladder I felt like I was floating. It's also really fun on Levitate and Deer Valley for sure!

    • @Artur-yf8yv
      @Artur-yf8yv Před 4 lety

      @@gnarlee4250 Hi guys - since I'm even bigger (250/6'4) and Capra 29 XXL also will be (if I decide to order it) my only bike - I've got a question - is this bike (considering some suspension lockouts) capable of some chill 30-40 miles smooth XC on flat gravel roads with family or not a chance? I am kinda teared between it and Scott Genius and Trek Slash and if I'd be any ligther I'd propably would go for them since 140mm/150mm sounds like a sweet spot for my riding (70% XC/30% Enduro) but I don't want to break the frame on these rough mountain trips.

    • @gnarlee4250
      @gnarlee4250 Před 4 lety

      There is no front lockout for the fork, only dampening. It's 160mm travel, so there isn't a whole lot of dampening. You could add the spacers that come with the bike though. The rear lockout helps a lot. I don't have a road bike so I ride this bike on a local paved bike path in the winter. It's only 17 miles, and 1250 vert. It gets the job done because it gets me out riding and the scenery is spectacular. But to have this bike when doing your enduro rides is worth it to me. This bike is awesome on the steep fast chunky stuff!

    • @Artur-yf8yv
      @Artur-yf8yv Před 4 lety

      @@gnarlee4250 wow, I am not sure if you are aware of - but if you ever miss lockouts - consider buying RockShox upgrade kit with Charger 2.1 ( something like this www.bike-components.de/en/RockShox/Charger-2-1-RCT3-Upgrade-Kit-for-Lyrik-Yari-as-of-2016-p71117/ ) and Debonair Kit (you'll find it on the same page). It basically makes from low-end Yari RC top of a line Lyrik. That said even without that upgrade and only rear lock it's not a problem to hit such distance? I mean I used to race in DH like 10 years ago and now got some fat and I'm willing to get my ass moving again and at the very begining I was like 'yeah I'm gonna get some XC with 100mm travel' but then I realized now XC means 150mm with 2.5 tires lol. So if Capra isn't plushy like oldschool DH bikes like V10 or Demo or else and yet I can hit it on proper singletrack on saturday and then some family XC on sunday sounds like awesome deal for all purpose riding.

  • @travelthenarrowtrail8660
    @travelthenarrowtrail8660 Před 4 lety +1

    Your observation seems spot on what I've heard from others about it being so energy zapping. Seems the there are other options in the same category that are more livelier but of course with a higher price SB150 or Megatower, etc. Love the hip pack, I like how you can slide it over so easy. I bought the Osprey and its just not doing it for me. Ride on Jason.

  • @thecasualmountainbiker

    I actually bought this bike partially because of your review. It is a big fast bike for meaty trails. Its leverage ratio is very progressive with the top being very supple. I took this out and was immediately going faster and boosting jumps higher and further. If I am on pedally trails I just flip the dampening to a stiffer setting and it climbs and pedals great. For steep, rocky, and fast trails this bike is the best bike I have ridden. However, most people don't ride trails that need plush 170 mm travel and would be better off with something with lots of upper travel support and lots of anti-squat and anti-rise. If you like real enduro style trails that make your butt pucker than get a Capra.

  • @jojotherider1977
    @jojotherider1977 Před 4 lety +1

    Saw that you finally reviewed my bike! Bummer to hear you didn't get along with it for your trails. For me, I actually have a lot of the same opinions while it's in the low geometry. In the high geometry it's a much more lively bike and it also climbs noticeably better. It's no spritely trail bike, but I think it does a good job straddling the line. Mine is the 2018 AL29 base so it is also less travel and heavier than what you tested.

    Those E*Thirteen tires don’t help any. They are very grippy. I own a 2019 Capra Pro Race 29 and the best upgrade I’ve done is changing the tires and going tubeless. It really does wake the bike up. It is so much faster now. Your friend that rode the Capra while you were on the Jeffsy was throwing it around like he owns one. Did he feel the same as you? BTW, I also own a Ripley v4 because of your review, but I’m still keeping my Capra for bike park days and the rough stuff.

      @mtbyumyum  Před 4 lety +1

      Lonnie, sounds like a killer quiver you've got there! Yeah, tires make a big big difference and although those tires have a lot of grip, they're a bit draggy.... Park was riding the Capra in the Jeffsy video... and yeah, he can make a down hill rig look like that. He's insane and a totally next level rider.... very strong riding and very explosive on the bike!

    • @tnlonnie03
      @tnlonnie03 Před 4 lety +1

      Trail Surfer So far I have no complaints on any of my E13 components other than the tires being too slow rolling. From what I’ve heard, they stand behind there parts, but hopefully I won’t ever need to file a claim.

    Guess its all preference. I had a yeti 5.5 and hated it and have also owned several santa cruz bikes and find the capra to be the best bike ive owned. I do ride a lot of gnarly stuff but i enjoy it on the trails as well. That planted feel is unmatched, can rail corners like nothing else.

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  Před 4 lety

      Yeah, it's all a function of the speed you're riding and the difficulty of the trails/terrain. The Capra was glued to the ground and incredibly stable and planted on the higher speed sections of trail where the terrain gets a bit rough... on all the other slower (15-20 mph) speed sections of trail the bike feels heavy, lethargic and slow to respond to rider input compared to other mid to long travel bikes.... the Yeti 5.5 for example is really very well composed at higher speeds and chunky terrain but still a lot of fun on the slower speed sections....

    Interesting review. Sometimes the bigger travel bike is not the more capable bike. It all depends on the trail. I prefer my “short” travel 29er on 90+% of the trails I ride. Even on the other 10% of trails a bigger bike is better for like 2 minutes of a 60 minute ride. That being said those 2 minutes can be a lot of fun on a big bike.

    I like the trails, I like to climb, but I also like to descend fast and I want to do jumps on ramps
    I used to do xc, but I couldn't jump or go down at high speed, do you think I could buy this bike?
    I want a bicycle to spend hours on the trail, up an down. aaaaaah

    Local YT 'shop' here? shop? do we call them shops? distributors? and I've been wanting to demo one for awhile. I wound up on a Nomad and that's gonna be my bike for the foreseeable future, but still wanna get one of these on a test ride. Every time I tried last year it rained and the trails were closed. But, I'm in Western NC so we have the mountains for a Capra.... I'd think.

    Thanks for the review! I just ordered the Capra in medium, I’m 5ft, 9 with shorter legs (30”inseam). Do you think the medium is the right size. Any input will be appreciated. Thanks!

      With the stock tires, not well.... It wasn't terrible for what the bike is made for... not as well as the Jeffsy 29

    I find it interesting that you broke from your normal format for this bike. You gave your after ride review half way through the video instead of at the end like all the others. Which basically said, the bike sucks. To me it screamed, check the box. “There I reviewed the YT, now stop bugging me about it”. I get it, consumer direct is the enemy of the LBS’ that make your channel possible.
    No dog in the fight. Just an observation

    • @mtbyumyum

      The local bike shop doesn't make my channel possible. There's always a demo truck coming though town and outerbike is right down the street from me that I've been to a few times now. Honestly, I liked the Jeffsy... if you haven't seen that review yet?! The Capra was just too much for this trail system.. has nothing to do with it not being offered from a local shop. You're right though, in the edit I spend less time because I didn't think it was a great video to start with.... the reality is I should have ridden the Capra on a different trail and if there is a take-away from this video it is that the Capra is not (in it's stock form) a great trail bike and would be better suited for those riding at much higher speed in likely steeper more difficult terrain. At the end of the day I do this "hobby" for basically free.... hope it helps people but if it doesn't then no stress... I'll shut the channel down and we can all listen to the bought and paid for Vitals, Bibles and PB's of the word......

      MTB yumyum i like what you do and appreciate your work. I just think you need to give the cap another shot. The new ones have the xo1, and flipping the chip and adding some pressure to the shock is free. You rode the pro race and that is set up to...race. The cf pro is a completely different riding bike. But if you must ride the pro race, run it in high with 20% sag and tell me you dont have the time of your life. This isn’t even about money id pay more for the yt then any yeti. Just a bonus that it happens to cost less.

    Jason love your work. Anyone doing similar videos but are closer to the 200lb mark? Would love to get input from riders trying out bikes that are close to my size.

      Yeah.... totally. I've been sitting on this video for some time now not really wanting to upload it... it was just not a fair test of what the bike wants to do and where it's to be ridden...

      To be fair I've got a Orange Stage 6 and it would eat this thing for breakfast but even so the Orange is a right laugh at any speed

    I agree with your description. I tried out a Capra 27.5 last September. I may have been at the same event. Once you get up to speed, it is a fun bike. Not a good climber, though. Good bike for a lift service bike park.

      Also - going to 20% sag on the x2 and setting the flip chip to high transforms the bike. Try it next time.
