You are a absolute legend and you will be remembered forever.
Thank you Hamza for changing me and my life and the lives of all my friends
@@JimmyTheGiant Oh, you're now fully in the Andrew Tate supporting crowd.
That's super disappointing.
The Real Turning Point for GymBros post-Zyzz, was the re-branding of the Chad & GigaChad meme from bully to totlally supportive gym bro. It made all those intimidating factors suddenly something relatable and attainable.
We’re all going to make it
@FuZioNFr3nZy those of us that put the effort in will make it no doubt and we need to continue to help each other be the best men we can be, it's not just about pumping weights and throwing a good punch and I'm glad we are past that as the norm
also attractive, everyone wants to be the person that gives out support
It’s obvious how much time has past ^ kids be not even knowing it’s a quote.. from fkin zyzz brah.
Yes!
Its the perfect example too, since the idea of Chad started with that twitter post of someone listing Chad as the top 1# duchiest name, then everyone in the comments said ''no, the duchiest name is ****'' and named the person that made the post, and from then on Chad went from the guy incels cry about to the example of whatever is considered good in a given context
Modern gymbros are a return to the old ideal of warrior poets - men on a respectable yet eternal quest for inner perfection in both body and mind.
It is a noble tradition, worthy of being rekindled.
Always chasing that blinding white light of constant growth.
That's beautiful man.
except it's a tad more internal, being a warrior is working for another higher thing, be it a lord or nation, being a poet is sharing an emotion to others
yes, obviously everyone wants to good look, but after some years in the gym plus you become older and more mature, it's just natural that gym starts to be something you do more for yourself than for others, especially if we are talking about non muscle-building stuff like aerobics and strength training

STILL WE PUSHING THAT THING TO HYPERTROPHY
One of the most impressive feats of acting that Arnold displayed was off screen, portraying himself as a stereotypical meat head to the masses. When in fact, the guy was already a successful real estate mogul & multiple time Olympia winner. And that was before he exploded as the quintessential action hero of the modern times.
His intellect, and more importantly his ability to underplay it to his advantage, has played no small role in shaping his current brand.
For real, there’s talk show clips of Arnie in the 70s being wonderfully articulate
i think the way he talked about bodybuilding in Pumping Iron was like a teacher explaining things, dude had brains and brawn but was playing it for the publicity
Yet he’s still a fascist controlled puppet who bent over backwards for the authorities during convid and stated ‘screw your freedom’
What an inspirational strong man
He was pretty clear pumping iron was acting and not a real documentary.
@@siroshcelot Not sure how much he was playing there. You need that kind of dumb enthusiasm four your thing to be able to take it that far. I have heard that same weirdly enthusiastic tone of voice from a freakishly smart mathematician teaching one of my undergrad classes. Some people just get lucky in that they get to make money off the things that get them going.
To defend Pumping Iron and Arnold, it has come out that most of the documentary was scripted. So I don’t think Arnold is or ever was actually as meat-headed as the film portrayed, he just went along with the script in order to help with his acting career, since at the time he was essentially the 1950s Yankees of Bodybuilding
Yeah AS is incredibly bright. If you read his biography he was a millionaire from various business ventures before acting. The guy adapted to a whole new language and culture etc too.
😊
As a man who has had wonderful experiences with therapy, it can be incredibly helpful, especially when the person you’re talking to is also a man. It’s just like chatting with a bro who understands how to help you process your feelings. The idea that therapy doesn’t work for men is misguided imo, we may just require a different approach, or even just having it be another dude that can connect and talk us through in a way that makes sense for us.

Therapy is good if someone is on 2nd base trying to get to 3rd or 4th base. The problem is that the majority of people being told to go to therapy are in the dugout or minor leagues and need a lot more help than therapy. They essentially need a new childhood with compwtent parents
What wasn't mentioned is a list of highly nerdy bodybuilders and coaches that look like bros but communicate in a highly scientific manner. Charles Poliquin, Christian Thibadeau, Mike Israetel, Ben Pakulski. These men have serious brain power. Highly impressive minds and bodies.

@@chillociraptor5007 you mean he marketed and profited from the culture...
As a man who has been lost in self-pity, anxiety and confusion for many years, I find that the gym movement at least for me has offered a practical way of seeing self-progress. I don't necessarily watch and engage with any form of media around the culture, but more form my own idea of it can be and what it can turn me into. Going with friends on a weekly basis has changed my life, respect, confidence and happiness are just a few words that come to mind, but mostly, a sense of accomplishment and pride to be a man, in spite of 'toxic masculinity' of the modern era which makes me feel like a monster. As a young man growing up with a single mother, I've been a champion of women my whole life and continue to be a proud supporter of feminism and LGBTQ+ (i am gay for the record :) awareness. I only wish I that people in my generation aren't discouraged by our ever increasingly divided and extreme world. Stay strong people 💪 we're gonna make it brah

I feel like the main issue with men's mental health is the idea that "if it worked for me it'll work for you". Everyone is different and people need to realise they have options and they need to seek them out in order to find out what is right for them. Sometimes therapy is perfect for someone, sometimes hitting the gym works, sometimes it's something completely different. Not every issue can be solved with the same solution.

This was an awesome video! I like most of the videos but this really hit me hard, the part about why men don't respond to therapy was a real eye opener and found myself saying out loud "YESSS!!"
I liked the video aswell, really well made! But I think the part about the therapy is really problematic, maybe even dangerous!
Of course there are biological differences between men and women, but the conclusion that therapy just doesnt work for men, because their brain works differently, is just wrong, I am sorry!
I went to therapy for 2 years and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made in my whole life! My therapist was a man and it really helped me out A LOT to talk with him!
Without exaggeration this turned me into a much better and especially more mature version of myself, with better understanding of my own feelings, thoughts and problems but it also helped me a lot to get a better understanding for other people and their feelings and struggles. And I know many men who also benefitted a lot from therapy! Especially when you have a mental disease or something! When you are sick, you go to the doctor! And when you have a problem on the mental level, you go to therapy! There is nothing wrong with it and it can really help out, no matter what gender you have! You just have to find the right person as a therapist for you! Pls dont just assume it doesnt work for you, since you are a man! That can be dangerous!
I am out, have a nice day everybody
I'm into all of this shit and tbh it's an extremely hard journey, it has gotten to the point beyond just improving. It's about life. It's about learning to learn and renaissance of one's self.

Man every video you outdo yourself! I love your work, keep it up!
This video is so enlightening, thank you for making it. Being a woman (and additionally, someone who isn't involved in bodybuilding or the like), all I've heard and seen from the "gym bro" subculture are those "redpill podcasts" and the seemingly endless collection of men vs women content and commentary on social media. Your insightful commentary and the included videos from those other creators has given me a new understanding and appreciation for this subculture.
While a very small part of the video, that breakdown of the differences between male and female mental health and the way we work through issues was something I, perhaps naively, had never heard before but it made complete sense. I've never been a fan of the idea that men are, as a collective, emotionally stunted and need therapising; men and women are very different, and perhaps the reason why this "men just need therapy" talking point is so widespread right now is because it's become a popular belief that the genders are not so different after all...which thousands upon thousands of years of recorded human civilisations prove to be untrue.
Loving the quality of the vids and especially the topics chosen. So interesting and relatable

8:52 Actually "bro science" usually means something that's not backed by science, but still believed because the person saying it is jacked.

Actually, Bro science is to put an ice pack on your nuts to increase test. It's on CZcams.
Exactly
Your description has me automatically thinking about crap like taking cold showers and mewing to get a manly jawline. It's not complex. Lift weights, do cardio, get sleep, and eat healthy.
People always want an easy button when those first four things are literally all it takes.
In my opinion, the issue is that a lot of them will say that there is only one way to be happy, and put down people who dont work out as much, even though it doesnt matter to those people
Truth. What also confuses me is that these pseudo intellectual 'bros' will tell you how to be better, "get to the gym" they say, lift etc. Are they aware that there are far more fruitful and rewarding activities one can do to find solace in their life..? Ones that require actual skill, and don't involve a full length mirror to pose in?
@@MrDanSpankdo you know how much work it takes to look like that? To say it doesn’t take skill is to reveal yourself as someone who has never done it.

Going to the gym is becoming more and more about self improvement rather than actually gaining muscle and wanting to look like a bodybuilder which is something I hope people will start to realize. Self improvement is and will always be good for men and the gym is a part of that.

When you hit us with the section about feeling like we’re being pitied and while we kinda feel heard we mostly feel useless, that right there. I have never heard someone discuss it in such a way that actually just made me think, yes this is the one, this represents the feeling. One of the saddest things about the culture atm is how much the mainstream media tries to poke fun at men who are improving themselves (the general derision of gym goers, the constant attempts to laugh at dropshippers or crypto traders, the recent sniggering at Elon Musk’s rocket blowing up). I’ve even seen people trying to reframe positive self improvement behaviours as something negative. I once had a short lived association with a girl who tried to suggest that my going to the gym and tracking my nutrition was an attempt at hiding an eating disorder! The implication obviously being that doing anything other than succumbing to instant gratification and comfort was unhealthy. Obviously after that the association didn’t continue but it was very alarming to see someone could interpret such an obviously (to me, anyway!) positive behaviour in that way.

I'm a man who's also found therapy helpful in recent years. An outside perspective detached from the goings on of your family and relationships, trained in helping people with mental troubles is an excellent resource.
If you come from a place of not accepting where you are in life and the agency you do have, it should be pretty helpful with a good counselor.
My therapists have been women, but you can seek out male therapists as well. They are available, and you can likely find whoever will make you comfortable in your area.
If you feel merely pitied and worthless, your therapist isn't the right one for you. Find one who's able to work out some goals with you.
If you're worried about being reported to the police, that's only if you seem to be a physical threat to yourself. Which means you should at least be talking to somebody. Or if you're seriously considering harming others, you as well should really talk with someone, in some kind of way.
That's so sweet, now how much did you pay? Therapy is too expensive for what it provides. Leave that shit to trophy wives.

The whole thing with the therapy is so true. As a dude I decided to try therapy just a few months ago because a friend said it might be a good idea even if i dont have a direct reason. For a while I wasn't really happy or unhappy about how it was going I kinda started feeling like without concrete solutions talking about shit felt usless. Just last session however I was talking to my therapist about how I find myself feeling tired throughout the day and scrolling through my phone to get some stimulation. We discussed this for a while and realized I was super addicted to dopamine hits and he recommended I start meditating. Probably one of the biggest turn around I have seen. I have more focus after my meditation sessions and even started reading which is something I kinda wrote of due to adhd and a form of dyslexia. Having direct solutions that I could take action on were really helpful.

I think finding a balance between fitness, career, friendships and hobbies is key to a more fulfilling life. Doesn’t matter if you fit in with the gym bro crowd or not, just find out what works for you and don’t worry about what others think. Easier said than done but yeah there’s my ted talk 😂
Great mentality.
Those are toxic men who make all the other men look bad. You know, the ones that slapped women in movies, grabbed them in inappropriate areas, cat calling.
@@ch-yq5yn You're one of the people stereotyping gym bros and masculinty as being "toxic". I'm surprised you watched this video without learning anything, but then, what could I expect?
Everyone's unique but I'd take a guess and if you had a one-one convo with one of those lads over a beer you'd probably find they're just as down-to-earth and willing to help as anyone else. Not that there aren't super toxic people around but they are a minority.
Reading the comments it is so interesting from surely sociological standpoint how people understood you comment in unique way. Some thought masculine means aggressive, abusive. Others thought it means a leader, a protector. And others thought it's just someone jacked. It shows how confused the notion of what is masculine is. I feel women went thought this arch years ago, like frist and secons wave feminists a 80, or 100 years ago. You know - what if we wear trousers, what if we smoke, what if we work or cut our hair, is this feminine, if not could we make it feminine and should we? But men had 60ties counter culture long hair arc and that was it really, there hasn't been this mass global moment of doubt, debate and wondering what exactly is masculine, what masculinity could be.
Really good video man. Something that I could see developing around me for while beautifully put into words.
These videos are incredible, keep it up man 👍
This might be random but I really loved the character of Terry in Brooklyn-99. He showed that you can he a gym bro and a sensitive intellectual/artsy type without having to compromise on either. Such a positive portrayal of masculinity imo
I was well on my way to becoming a part of the new generation of gym bros, all about self improvement, not just lifting weights. But then at some point I was diagnosed with schizophrenia and had to start taking antipsychotics and it turned me into a husk of a person, with no energy to even go to the gym or study. I will be talking to my psychiatrist to change the medication to something else and hopefully I’ll be back in the gym making the gainzzz and back to books making the mental gains. I want to basically be a muscle monster and a doctor lol. We all got this!
Well done. Very well spoken and edited. I wasn’t bored for a second
Bro, your content is going from simple top notch entertainment to down right important. Stellar stuff!
Gym bro is it’s own solution. “Bro” being the key ingredient. Making friends thru the same development is amazing. The new age of growth is thru this cultural shift. Stoke to see this in a video.
This is a master piece! Everything that has been on my mind condensed in one video.
Was waiting to see this become a hit piece like these essays about masculinity and men usually, but i was pleasantly surprised.
Nicely done.
There is a connection between the redpill and gym culture. It should not be underestimated how much they did for each other. In some ways, their connection reformed both and took the best elements of both to make something more potent than the sum of it's parts. Incel culture had the population, people in need of help, and an (attempted) scientific and intellectual (atleast more than what was on the internet at the time) platform, while gym culture brought improvement, and allowed former incels to see their top of the mountain and mellow and reform from inceldom while maintaing that care for their fellow man. Self-improvement was created out of the usability in both. There are people like fnf, but them and their derivatives are more like an infected scar than completely unassociated, even if they corrupt the self improvement movement, they're apart of it.
GymBro 2.0 IS the Red Pill movement. It’s not a bad thing, it’s the modern foundations for self-improvement.
@@ianeons9278if you do red pill correctly, you realize that you (the man) are the problem more often than not, not the women who are rejecting you.
External validation is a trap. Lying to yourself that you’re a “nice guy” is a cope.
IMO a man (or person for that matter) shouldn’t aim to be “nice” which often involves dishonesty, but rather kind which requires strength and honesty.
@@damnyankeega
True
@@damnyankeegaLOL this is such a stupid idea. You should realize that only 10% of men can be the top 10% of men at any given time.
So if everyone works out 7x days a week and makes £1mil+ a week, women would just try to date the top 10% of these men.
You will ALWAYS have "incels" no matter what. This is how it works when the dating game is free for all.
"Redpill" and "self-improvement" only truly works if you're one of the few men that does it, it doesn't scale at all.
It also heavily relies on there being enough attractive women relative to attractive men. Supply and demand.
If every man does "redpill" you're back at the beginning, the bar is just higher.
If you're one of the few men who "ascends", but then all the women are fat, you're still having a worse dating experience than someone who does jack shit but can get hot women because there are more hot women in their country than there are hot men.
So yeah, you should try to maximize your potential, but saying that "it's your fault" is a stupid idea, if you're 5'6 and ugly it's GG try again in the next life or a different country.
@@ianeons9278 The other guy made a great response this but I'm going to come at it from a different angle. The modern fitness movement is not thn red pill movement. For one, there are plenty of apolitical fitness only channels that pass out advice without neccesarily passing out dating advice. Guys like noel dayzel, hybrid calisthenics, movementwithdavid, and calethetic movement are good examples.
Secondly, most redpill content doesn't involve self-improvement. Look towards fnf or any rp postcast, and they're not really passing off advice or self-improvement, just promoting the ideology.
Jesus Jimmy, your videos have come a long way. I've always enjoyed your content, but this one is spectacular. Delve deep and keep 'em coming. Also, do you even lift bro?
Loved the video! Good timeline and descriptions!
Amazingly great video all the way around!
Bro this was actually an unreal video with great introspection about the current culture. Great Watch
I genuinely never thought of the connection between the differences in men's and women's minds and how they respond the therapy. Definitely something to think about that's heavily being overlooked.
Banger video Jimmy. Amazing story telling skills
This was an incredibly well-made video, great work
Good God, those news articles saying working out or getting fit is some secret far right conspiracy lol. Wtf..
Good video. I've been a gym bro on and off since 1998, and was 100% nerd (like "enjoyed taking the SAT" kind of nerd, not the "I watch all the anime" kind) before that. Still am 100% nerd, but have lots of muscles, too.
Amazing content dude, thanks for sharing 🔥
Fascinating stuff, really interesting video. Great work as always Jimmy!
Duuuude I forgot about pumping iron! Arnold is a fucking boss
Lou Ferigno is in it too. He was the Hulk on the TV show in the 80s.
@JimmyTheGiant It would have been benefitial to mention that:
- Andrew Huberman is a neuroscientist at Stanford
-Peter Attia is a MD and a bestselling author on longevity
-Derek read probably more scientific papers on hormones that 99,99% of the people
-Joe Rogan brings scintists on his podcast who are top researchers in their field
These aren’t your typical gym bros anymore
However, great content as always!
That is one beautifully put together video
I've noticed that working out and trying to better myself is the best therapy for me. I've also started to learn more about the philosophy of Stoicism and i've been trying to have that type of mindset recently and it really has improved my mental and physical health so much.
The big turning point for me was realizing I had spent a year daily workong out and the consistency had transformed my body. So I applied the idea of a daily discliplined habit to learning.
I started reading every day, usually on my lunch break at work. 20-30 momutes a day during a meal and you can finish a dense philosophical work in a couple months. It gets serious results after a year or so in. Hell, now breakfast is when I study spanish. I'm starting to really Bec ke different from your regular tv watching slop though sunday bible reading is helping me not get too arrogant about it lol.
Man your research and production are perfect
Very good video. I'm glad this video was made because it clearly explains what's happening.
There are a variety of types of therapy...some of which are aboutn problem solving. Not every therapist is an expert in each type , you find the ones in the style you prefer.
The moment everyone stops thinking therapy is "just about talking" is the moment we have healthier people
Yeah, this "men are about problem solving" is just silly. This could easily be societal too.
@@BrofUJu Exactly! It's not an evolutionary programming it';s a societal one we learned in movies and our toxic parents.
This is why the number one thing schools should teach is critical thinking and problem solving and research. So that people can correctly process and act on the world around them.
This actually opened my perspective up quite a lot. I think it's such a fine line to walk between gym bros on the Internet and toxic masculinity. I personally don't tend to watch personality based content anymore because I feel like that leads to a parasocial relationship I'm not comfortable with. But when I was younger there were a lot of youtubers who taught me things like self confidence, respecting and understanding people and also just being a good person. I don't know any personalities who are promoting a good message but it's quite refreshing to at least hear secondhand that there are positive, non-toxic role models in the gymbro space.
That was cool man. Great video, keep it up 🤙
There was a clip.near the end that was very poignant.
"When people say man up theyre not saying ignore your emotions, theyre saying integrate them"
Holy Mackerell! What a brilliant statement.
He’s a gym bro himself!.!.
My physio got me going to the Gym to strengthen my legs for running and the first time I went to the gym I was so intimidated by the "Gym Bros" but a year later I now love going to the Gym and I found the "Gym Bros" to be the most friendly, helpful, humble, Inspiring and least judgmental Ppl in the Gym. all the newbies sit around judging without breaking a sweat
I never got why ppl felt intimidated their first time in. Glad u stuck around tho.
@@runakobannister3316 its obvious but you have to think for atleast 5 seconds.
@@breazfreind402 youre there for you not anybody else who gives a shit what other ppl are doing?
One of the best video essays I’ve seen in a while
seeing more and more people i know, myself included get into working out is amazing, they stay true to themselves and their values while getting SHREDDED.
In a time of body positivity and that yellow t-shirt guy saying "nobody cares about your muscles", GymBro is light in the darkness.
If no one's there to help you, applying yourself to a training regimen and getting results gives you the feeling like you can handle everything yourself. It makes you feel prepared, physically secure and maybe even confident. The attention you get from being fit and attractive is just a bonus that idk what to do with cos I'm shy cos I used to be fat.
The gym is where you fight and beat your demons.
Edit: And I've been in the gym consistently for 7 years.
