@@Andrea.Zechmeister Yesss, it`s very unique to make it so. It was an simply experiment, and I`m happy with the result. I can`t remember to a song, where this is.
You don't have to arm the track to record the automation!
not arming the track has the advantage that you don't mess with the midi that ist already recorded.
Automating the frequency knob to do high or low cuts to accent important parts. The hardest part I'm dealing with is ALL the channels are important, but I'm finding the ability to minimize the audio traffic jam by automating vol, freqs, etc as the song moves along so it has discoverable sprinkles of sound as the beat carries us to the lasers. I sent my first GOOD song to a friend who played it in his trailer park, they all got out and bounced w it. Love hearing YOUR tips helping my sound get better.
I had no idea as to how powerul Ableton is and as a 61 year old newbie thank you for both your knowledge and absolute insperation. Love it.
Thank you, Vinny, I am rally glad you found it helpful! 🙌🏻
That’s the spirit!
man , u helped me get off with 7 projects, 2 previews in 2 WEEKS ! , and still learing in a flash from your tutorials! much alot credit to you and other useful youtubers :D
Stoked to hear my videos have helped you so far! Keep up the good work and hope you enjoy the rest of the content :)
Fantastic video! I use so much automation in my tracks as I try to keep my tracks as a deep minimalist midtempo, and still learned TONS that I didn't know was possible before. Particularly nesting the automation. That's going to save me SOOOOOO MUCH TIME. Anyways much love brotha keep it up!!!!
I'm scared to think how many of your amazing videos I've followed along to and continue to learn from now mate - and yet you just keep on delivering! You are truly appreciated Sir Will :)
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching and for the kind words of support 🙂
So so helpful! I love the way you describe things so concisely - AWSOME!

Man, this is gold! As all your videos, it's practical and always useful to go further in music production.
Ah, thank you, glad you found it helpful!

Very practical overview. I appreciate the organization of ideas and actual techniques. There is a great deal of information here with very little dead air. Bravo!
Probably the most practical EDM Tips episode I’ve watched. Super clear and the layout of the lesson built things up perfectly, pun intended.
Learning your way around the DAW is so important to completing your songs. Great Video! Thank you. :)

@@EDMTips for now, there is no question left. It's just a lot of input for a beginner like I am. I learn from your videos step by step to not overwhelm, cause there is a lot to learn x) Automation will help me a lot to set up my tracks I couldn't finish yet. The knowledge you share is phenomenal. Thank you!
My pleasure, Sam, glad it was useful! 🙂🙌🏻
This is exceptionally good timing as I was googling this topic this morning to spice up my mixs movement and interest (Advanced Automation).
Hoper you find it helpful, Adam :)
@@EDMTips I rarely dont find your videos helpful as augmented information on top of the accelerator.
If anyone happens to see this, I am one of his accelerator students, and he does a tremendous job accelerating your journey through creating high quality dance music. 100% worth it if you have the funds to spare.
Lot of info to unpack here. Hell yeah, thanks Will!
Very nice 👍👍👍 thanks for sharing, I learn something new every time I watch your videos 💯
You're welcome! Which automation tip was your favourite?
Hi Will, great video! I'm on Bitwig Studio... with - of course - different automation capabilites, but... you make your videos almost always "generic" enough to be applied in other DAW's with ease - which is great. The interesting part is in powerful automation capable DAW's the really almost endless possibilites of automation (even in combination with modulation). And when almost any modulated parameter also can be modulated, things become quickly "overwhelming", making it sometimes useful to begin on a "minimalistic" basis and make as little (but effective) as possible automation (and modulation, too).
Anyway it makes sense to find out "manually" the influence of changing parameters inside instruments and effects (especially when one use a new device, or after a device had a major update)... and then imagine the automation effect inside the track...
And you're right, because often "less is more" regarding elements inside a track. If one uses automation effectively, this makes a lot of movement, acoustic variety... all in all it makes a track keep the interest of the listener alive (and is always fun to listen to).
Once again a brilliant video. This channel is, by far , the best out there.
Thank you, Job, I am glad you found it helpful!
Very good!! Thanks for the master class
You're welcome, glad you liked it! 🙂🙌🏻
Def one of the best explained and most useful tutorials for automations. Straight into the point including the greatest tips. Thanks a lot! Michael appreciated! Plz keep doing what you do. It helps a lot! Thanks again!
You're welcome, glad you found it helpful!
Anything else in particular you’re struggling with and would like me to cover on the channel?
@@EDMTips first of all thanks for getting back to me! im actually in the music industry for many years already and have released some tracks and an album here and there from time to time, i had some long time off afterwards while i had to move to another country, priorities, technical issues and impossible to move and setup studio again. so now im coming back and i feel more educated more experianced and focused on what i want to achieve. im a huge fan of reading and watching new stuff and informations, i also love watching other people's approach and way of working. there is always new things to learn. what i think would be great topic to cover is compare and explain the sound quality using Ableton's instruments or Vsts. of course ableton's instruments are a much CPU saver compare to Vst but what about the end product and sound quality ( before mastering). Also would be nice to see creating some of the future leading sound these days (Afterlife) and more of melodic techno ( 124/126bpm). :)
Probably about the tenth time I've watched this, that much good info in it it's impossible to digest it all in one sitting. Cheers Will!
You're very welcome! Thanks as always for watching and supporting! Sometimes it takes a few times but that shows your dedication man! Love it! :)
I can not tell how grateful I am for your work Will! I’ve been producing for almost a year now and was in the dark pretty much. Now it feels like I’m taking the fast lane by having found your channel. Just to explain: I’m 30 years old now and always have the feeling that this is quite old for being a new producer. Feels like your videos give me a little of this „lost time“ back haha!
Definitely not too old for music production, but I am glad my videos helped to reignite that spark! :)
I feel you!! I'm 30 as well and have been doing this for less than 6 months. I've always loved music and finally decided to get over my fears and just learn (having no formal musical background). Keep going, we aren't too old!!
@@sarawarnock4432 You‘re right Sara. :) And to be honest, music has always been an integral part of my life. It’s my purpose & therapy so to say. So I’ll definitely never stop and feel happy for us that we made the leap!
I'm 46 and just started. You're never too old. I've been in the EDM scene since 96. Still love the music just like the first day in Berlin at the Love Parade...now I get to actually make music I love.
You guys are so wholesome! Keep creating what brings you joy! :)
good shit man! thank you for your time and energy.
You're welcome! Glad you liked it 🙂
Amen Brother. Automation is the life soul of a tune. no amount of sound selection and mixdown can make up for a lack of movement and interest.
Good point indeed!
Very good video !!! explains so much. Thank you
Really happy to hear buddy! Keep it up!🙌
This video was so useful! Thank you as always Will.
You're welcome, Benjamin! Thanks for watching and supporting the channel! 🙂🙌🏻

Which automation tip was your favourite?
Only recently discovered your channel and loving all the videos, so many useful tips. Have you done a video on how to get rid of or reduce the "clicking" sound that sometimes appears when doing the bass? I noticed it was there at 9:40 of this vid
nicccce! incredibly useful tips! thank you!
Once again, some great tips Will. I need to get a midi keyboard with some knobs and dials!!

Great video, and is that to the moon and back from Boris?
Hi Will, thought I knew all about Ableton automation but I learnt new techniques (nested in a clip and in the track awesome) - thanks so much! Can you share the "Washout" group rack, it's not in the project file....THANKS!
Thanks Will for this great video. Saved in "Top Tutorials" again.
Would be nice to have it as an add-on to Module 6, as it compactly sums up quite some of the subject's options
Great suggestion, Ad! I will take it onboard :)
Thanks for watching and supporting the channel! 🙂
This video was hugely informative. I was trying to figure how to map controls to my midi controller for a minute!
Channel suggestion: A new series called ‘Fix my Mix’ where a viewer sends in an Ableton set they’ve worked on and you pick a section of it to ‘fix’ and bring it to the next level.
Great suggestion, Andrew, not sure it will have a wide appeal though. Perhaps it's something we can do within the community, which is kinda what we're already doing during Tuneful Tuesdays! :)
Dude this is your best tut of 2023...so that means you will have to keep them coming with fire😁💥💥💥..🙏💪👊💪
Appreciate it, Ivans! I am glad you found it helpful!
Anything else in particular you’re struggling with and would like me to cover on the channel?
@@EDMTips Please cover more on how to deal with muddy low mids. you touched on it in a few of your other post, but there is always a focus on the low end...low mids are where the juice is at in my humble opinion :)
To prevent the clips gluing together while recording an automation I assigned a key to arm a empty midi track at the top of my tracks.
Select the track to automate, press I (the assigned key) to arm the empty track and record the automation. The clips will stay intact.
Doubleplus Hell Yeah. This was super helpful!
Thank you so much for the support, appreciate it! 🙂
veeeery nice! tks!!
hell yeah! this was automation gold. thanks Will.
Awesome, I am glad it was helpful! 🙂🙌🏻

I am now working with an video editor, so I can focus on content creation instead :)
Hey Mr Will EDM ... absolutely love your material - avidly on the look at for new content, please keep it up - inspiring.
This may sound noob Q but here goes @ 6.32 when your cutting the low end with automation, it fed back that horrible clickly sound . How would you go about cutting that out from your mix ?
(Or if there's any well informed peeps out there I'd love to hear from you)
Thanks I'm advance 🙏

Curious about saving midi mapping into device rack within a clip or in a template.
I've tried a few things but doesn't reload that when in a new project
Súper súper , Answer me a lot of questions
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! 🙂
Can I just use a washout from Splice or something or is the method you described in the video superior to it? I am thinking that way I can have more control on the washout itself.
AAAAAAAAAAAAMAZING!!!!🤩

i love doing it live, but never get the accuracy I'm looking for , is there a certain set point you can run thru the whole individual track , like a max...i belive that is possible with max stuff right ?
