You know what, after being exposed to the way Gerald talks, i started to understand maybe 70% of what he was saying, so I'm fairly confident that at this point Clarkson understands most of it. Still, Gerald rules!
Saw a British anthropologist guy talk about various languages of Britain Gerald came up as an example of how important to record him as a icon for "West Country (County) dialect" My trendy modern friend speaks cumbrian to her parents. One day a lady was talking to me on the coast I asked sue what she said in Cumbrian. Sue laughed saying she spoke English Ha Ha
Of all the things that Gerald has ever said on Clarksons Farm….. …..The one thing I understood was when he said ‘what a load of shit’ when describing Clarksons attempt at marking a line for the track to the barn. Legend 👍🏻
Gerald is awesome. So full of wisdom. Especially when he said "guya monn sgih shambollott frincg scolla mehh" spoken like a boss. Gerald for prime minister!
Can you understand what the context is where he says about taking off all his clothes and putting them in a plastic bag in relation to the combine not working 😂 absolutely buckled laughing at it
I can't say much but it is clearer to hear what he's saying in most cases where he's not on the walkie-talkie. Those are impossible otherwise perhaps lol but I have a feeling the team behind the final cut must have purposely made him seem more hard to understand as that is part of his character now
@@Stallzyx very likely, at 0:19 there's a short segment of his speech being reversed (at least it sounds like so, and if it wasnt edited-then HOW DOES HE DO THAT????)
Just binged watched over yesterday and today and it's BRILLIANT! It's quite clear that something dodgy is going on at that council refusing planning permission for everything Jeremy applied for, especially when you look at those ghastly new-builds in the villiage which cleary do NOT fit in with the character of the area! Perhaps they were looking for some 'brown envelopes'?
Growing up in the south, Gerald's dialogue brings me home. The way to understand Gerald and hillbillies, like me in past years, is to focus on site words. Also, when I was in college, BSEE, I had many foreign profs. I had a notebook for each class, and I recorded on the inner covers and margins translation like "is not good business for sure" from my Romanian prof who was also my advisor in under and grad school. He was a treasure to me. We shared similar struggles, found peace, and moved on. Your legacy lives Oscal, my mentor.
There was definitely a bit at 1:42 where he says "If you take off like a racing car, I can't keep up with you." which is audio they've clipped from S01 when they were doing a harvest and Jeremy kept losing the grain out the back because he was going too fast. I'm sure they're chopping it up to make him more incomprehensible.
He said he had a trouble with a signal and he can't stop it, and Jeremy said to touch a cross symbol somewhere on the panel, all that I understood from gerald 😂 and he said something about 50/70 but the radio speakers are too loud and making even harder to understand
After Gerald had a few beers, I understood what he was saying much better..... I bet when he gets absolutely hammered, he speaks in a posh accent that everyone can understand, even if they cant speak or understand English.......
@@Ambuscade94 because we can both totally agree that, Sober, he does NOT have a posh accent.....I think...... As i cannot understand a word he's saying..... Maybe it so posh that our everyday bluecoat ears cannot understand it.....maybe.....
As a West country "yokel" all my life, Gerald talks exactly like my late father. I can make out most of what he says with ease. He will most likely to sound more comprehensible when pissed for sure👍
Why is no one commenting on the fact that during this series the council has literally refused every single thing he wanted to do. How is that legal?! UK is such a joke of a place sometimes
Because Clarkson is an oaf and they don’t want to let the whims of a multimillionaire destroy their village so cretins like you can have a bit of entertainment. Makes sense to me. Clarkson gets paid by Amazon to make this show. He also gets money from Amazon to assist with the costs of the farm. He’s not using his own money. Why should the people of the village have to put up with his antics? He’s a prick. He gets exactly what he deserves when he tries to bring his “Clarkson” persona into the real world.
Watching S1 with Gerald, I couldn’t understand him and what made me laugh the most is when I then rewind it with the subtitles on, even the subtitles said “inaudible” 😂😂😂
Every time I am feeling a but down in the dumps, this video just puts a smile on my face, the is absolutely no was you can watch this without laughing .... Amazing.
I can't go into detail but Gerald is easier to understand in the sections where it's edited with the microphone on him (and you can see that here*). Where he's only coming through the walkie-talkie it's very difficult to interpret but I think he is usually miked up at all times if they really wanted to get a subtitle of what he's actually saying, but that's part of his character charm I guess that sometimes you have no idea what he's saying. He seems to be much clearer spoken than the first season. May have to end up watching both seasons at once or rewatch first one myself before season two with my mum :) Going to go through some of your compilations at some point, got the parking compilation ready to watch after some more work but just thought I'd see what your recent uploads were and it's this
Also in some cases they cut the audio together in ways that makes him seem to be talking nonsense, it's funny but I'm guessing he would be 95% understandable in real life, rather than the 40-50% in the show.
Gerald’s voice is like if John Prine spoke with a thick English accent, and with the cadence of Bob Dylan after overdoing it on amphetamines circa the 60’s. Maybe a dash of Boomhauer in there as well lol. Love Gerald, he brings a lot to the show…not that I understand even 20% of what he says, but you just know it’s either important or some deep wisdom.
I spent 20 years in deepest darkest Dorset, but Gerald speaks a totally different language - a mix of Greek and Dutch, with a hint of Swahili, I think.
usually only long clips get blocked, shorter ones get copyright claimed but not blocked doesn't matter for me because i don't earn money anyways, obviously fine to have the actual owners make money from the video
Gerald: *speaks gibberish*
Jeremy: "wise words"
The "wise words" commence at 6:17
I can just see James May coming on the show and being able to fully understand Gerald and ends up having a good ole conversation with him.
I would be rolling on the floor laughing if that happens! 😜😂
i dont see how hes hard to understand 😂
Imagine May trying to explain how to fix the tractor, would probably last three hours
Yo shut up man I’m dying 😂😂😂
To be honest I could actually see that happening
And Gerald finding him terribly interesting.
One of my favorite bit about this show is the subtitles giving up when Gerald speaks, usually it's a couple of words and then [indistinct]
That just made me lol.
Ahahahahahahahaha
I’m watching in Sweden there is no Swedish translation when he speaks
There are no Polish subtitles when he speaks
There’s no real English subtitles for Gerald!!!
You know what, after being exposed to the way Gerald talks, i started to understand maybe 70% of what he was saying, so I'm fairly confident that at this point Clarkson understands most of it. Still, Gerald rules!
It's also edited to make him sound a lot more worse than it actually is
Even the subtitles can't speak Gerald, they just stop when he talks mostly.
