  • To feel like you don't even use the arm, you need to create free power by stretching the muscles in your back and shoulder.

    I'm gonna be honest I absolutely love the way you break it down, keep it simple, and get down to the basics. You have a way of teaching that goes so far beyond what many other coaches do..in my opinion(no disrespect to any of them of course). I just really like how you break it down! Awesome job and I feel as if you can really help me a lot!

    Love your instructional videos Spin Doc! You explain and break it down different than others in a way that somehow it clicks. After watching your vids I’ve added about 30-50’ of distance on my BH throws. I was maxing around 375 feet BH but now can reach 425 feet on a good rip. Appreciate what you bring to the game! My FH has always been solid 350-375 feet but excited to be able to utilize and throw more lines. Because if you’re not trying to improve, what are you doing??!?

    Love your style brother and as always good stuff. 👍 I’ve been thinking about how to achieve this paul Mcbeth motion and watching your videos. I’m starting to think It’s beginning to happen. What real has driven it home , is when I began starting from a stand still, and weight shifting forward with my hand going to the hit position. If you imagine a bull whip in your hand and with a horizontal movement instead of overhead, as you draw the whip backwards and then begin stepping forward you have to wait before you can actually pull the whip forward for the cracking back to the hit point. If that makes sense. Appreciate your videos. Thanks

    So I should try to resist my body opening (as in rotating open) as much as possible to create more lag? Thank you for the interesting vid

    • @dgspindoctor
      @dgspindoctor  Před 8 měsíci +4

      Not exactly, unless you have troubles opening too early. I teach people to stop the body momentum forward, continue with the elbow and then let the momentum continue around the spine. But if you only try to rotate, your momentum is not going forward to stop, and it leaks to the side. Rotation is a by-product of stopping the momentum, not the aim.

    • @dgspindoctor
      @dgspindoctor  Před 8 měsíci +2

      Whatever gives you the best and most consisten feeling is the best grip.

    • @njott1021
      @njott1021 Před 8 měsíci +1

      Sounds like more of a grip issue. When you grip your disc with more fingers, you might be backloading your grip with your ring finger and pinky. When youre 4 finger power gripping, focus prominently on the index finger, that's the most important one.

    I think I figured out a way to get this stretch feeling messing around in the field this morning after watching this video earlier. I basically rip my lead arm forward (like I am backhanding someone) and throw elbow behind me with my back arm (like in a self defense situation). Once I feel stretch I plant the lead leg.

    thank you, great video! Does the off hand have something to do with also tightening the rubber band?

    • @dgspindoctor
      @dgspindoctor  Před 8 měsíci +2

      I doubt it. I mean, if you do everything else perfectly, you may try to add something from the off arm. But focusing on the off arm instead of the things that contribute 98% of the throw is just wasted effort. I consider it the supplement of backhand form; you can't fix your poor diet and sloppy workout routine by taking supplements, but if you want to add that extra 2% of gains, you can try and take some creatine and see if it helps.
      Otherwise, just stick to the basics.

    • @njott1021
      @njott1021 Před 8 měsíci +2

      From what I see, the off arm contributing to the backhand rubber band (as seen in the sling shot disc golf channel) effect seems to be a more high level form add on. There're a lot of other parts of the form that should be focused on before that. As long as your arm gets tucked into your body at the appropriate time, it's on the right track

    • @bobdmb
      @bobdmb Před 8 měsíci

      @@dgspindoctor thank you for your reply! I was asking because I want to locate that right tension on the back under the shoulder blade. When I extend my right hand backwards and I do the opposite movement with the off arm, I feel much more tension. I just wondered if this is what the off arm achieves but I think I misunderstood. Thank you for clarifying!

    • @dgspindoctor
      @dgspindoctor  Před 8 měsíci +2

      Just because it looks like the Off arm is a major contributor (and it looks like that only because SSDG says so...), doesn't mean that it is.

    • @tonyriedel4421
      @tonyriedel4421 Před 8 měsíci +2

      @@bobdmbThe off arm does load the back, which is why Paul McBeths off arm starts driving before the disc is moving forward. When you do it correctly (which is hard) you can feel the rubber band effect through the upper back and how the off arm jump starts the throw

    So to clarify. You need to activate the lats like if your doing a one armed bent over row. Does that mean the scapula retracts also to help make the arm fire?

    • @dgspindoctor
      @dgspindoctor  Před 8 měsíci +1

      To clarify: HELL NO. Never did I say to activate the lats. You stretch it, not pull it. If you had watched my videos, you would know I'm strictly against what you're implying. You must keep the elbow out and far away from the body, so everything else but to retract the scapula.
