- Olds Guy's Garage Quick Tip: Front Spring Removal GM A Body. In this video we will demonstrate a safe and effective way to remove front coil springs from a GM "A" body vehicle. In this particular case a 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass.
After the spring compressor did not want to fit up through the opening in the bottom of the lower control arm, i had to use another method. In the end I was happy I went this method over the spring compressor. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
I appreciate your video. Well done 👍
You're welcome! Glad to help out!
Thanks for great videos. I'm about to do front bushings on my 72 Supreme.
You are very welcome! I have another video where i removed the bushings. I couldn't find a shop to do it so i did it myself. I also reinstalled new bushings in another video. Good luck with your 72 and keep that dream running!
Having the chain on there is smart. Even if it did try to fly out it would just make a loud noise..
The chain was a great idea. I’m getting ready to do this for the first time on my 79 camaro and was worried about the safety of it all. This will give me a bit more peace of mind.
Good luck and be careful! Keep pressure from underneath on that spring and lower that jack slowwww.
Need to rebuild the front suspension on my 72 and 77 Nova. Looks pretty straight forward. Thanks
If i can do it anybody can do it! LOl. No really, I was really surprised how smooth everything went.
Thanks for vid gonna. It the hell outta my ELCO springs but don't worry I've got an olds 350 rocket 🚀 in her lol
whos 1971 buick riviera is in the back ground?
That's my wifes. LOL. good eye.
Yeah it aint goin nowhere with a nice heavy duty chain on it. Get a threaded link lock and try to get 6 but at least 5 of the coils making an a X with the chain. While you lift the car up by the control arm and compress the coil fully. Obviously make sure you have another jack under the car as when you tie the chains and start to slowly lower the jack underneath the control arm it will need to come down on the second jack. I have removed countrless coils this way doing suspension repairs and replacements as a collision tech. Dont use flimsy chqins though. Heavy duty chain from home depot can withstand far more pressure than that coil can exert. So fear not just make sure you tie it properly.
What's the purpose of the chain?
The chain is a safety measure in case something goes wrong it will keep the spring from violently flying out.
Now let’s make one put them back in
Lol! Ask and you shall receive! czcams.com/video/ljgccqvqL9Y/video.html
🤔 eze pze
Lol all that work🤯 just put a jack underneath and remove the to back bolts and lower the Aarm and they will drop right. No need to remove all the stuff on the front.
Thanks for info. It was my first time removing the springs. I removed all the stuff in the front as I was doing a disc brake conversion as well as rebuilding/restoring entire front end. Painting all the parts, frame, etx. Thanks for watching!
Cool
I'd rather use a spring compressor
Sure, if you do just make sure you dont let it just fall and hit the ground after lowering the A arm.
Thanks for vid gonna. It the hell outta my ELCO springs but don't worry I've got an olds 350 rocket 🚀 in her lol
