  • Olds Guy's Garage: In this quick tip video we will be installing the springs in the 72 Olds Cutlass. We will be using a spring compressor to compress spring and then set it in place with the help of a floor jack. We will wrap things up by locking in the new spindle.

I just spent an hour not getting a spring to go in. Now I know how. Thank you for your video.

Anytime! I am glad it worked out. Be careful with the springs! I was on eggshells the hole time.

@@oldsguysgarage Need to do the springs on my 67 Malibu. Definitely a nervous proposition. Been a long time since I’ve done springs.
Great video, and just subscribed. 🤙🏻🤙🏻

@@ironhorse127 @ironhorse67 Those are awesome rides for sure! Stay safe and if someone can help that would be even better! One thing I would have liked to put in this video is since I recently painted the the springs as well as shock towers black, using a white paint pen to mark stop in shock tower would have made alignment a little easier. Thanks for watching!

Easier and SAFER way of doing it - attach the spindle and DO NOT attach the lower arm back bolts leaving the back FREE. Put the jack on the arm between the bushing holes and lift the back of the lower arm up to the holes and insert bolts. NO SPRING COMPRESSOR NECESSARY. Much safer because the spindle/brake shield will be there to protect it from coming out. This way too you can adjust the fully stretched spring into the correct position and THEN lift up the lower control arm. Been doing it that way for GM products for yrs. 1 more thing - use a block of wood on the jack cup and it will protect your paint job AND the part from being damaged. Just My 2cents...
