Mandela Effect: Jif or Jiffy Peanut Butter?

  • While I certainly remember that choosy mothers (and later, choosy moms) choose Jif brand peanut butter, I also remember an older advertising campaign telling mothers to fix their children a snack in a jiffy with Jiffy. I remember noticing they'd changed the name from Jiffy to Jif in the late 1980s. Many years later, I learned of the Mandela Effect and found that this was another of its examples. Jif peanut butter has apparently never been sold as Jiffy and I was just remembering it wrong. Well, if I'm remembering it wrong, so is this game show from October 17, 2012, The Pyramid S01E33. The word they're trying to guess is jiffy (small unit of time), but when the player can't guess it his partner goes straight to "Peanut butter. Peanut butter, not Skippy!" Once the round is over, the player is upset he did not get the obvious clue for "Jiffy."
    Star: Oscar Nunez. Player: "Rob"

You found the holy grail of Jiffy peanut butter residuals! Excellent find.there is not many remnants left of this.
    2012 wow,i would expect this from a 70's or 80's show.
This was one of the earliest changes, they definitely look old enough to remember Jiffy for most of their life.

@@debpfleiger803interesting because there's a commercial from the 60's that shows a jar of JIF - not JIFFY - and the slogan was "get a whiff of JIF". There are old ads; a picture of an old truck with the 50's Logo for "Jif" on it; and even empty peanut butter jars from the late 50's with the label showing "JIF" with a kangaroo next to the words.

Awesome find! Thanks so much! I was buying Jiffy on a regular basis when I lived in Van B.C. from 95 to 99. When I moved to Scotland in 2000 I searched everywhere for Jiffy but all I could find was Jif....same packaging, just called Jif instead of Jiffy?? I thought, is it a knock off? Did they change the name? It's not even as catchy! I was so perturbed, and was even hesitant to buy Jif because I was a total Jiffy addict! And I know for certain I was not getting it mixed up with Skippy, because I knew of Skippy and it was never my first choice! What has freaked me out even more since finding out about this M Effect and being told Jiffy never existed, is that I went looking for any evidence at all of it and found an advert for Jif from 1977!!! OMG! I was buying it in the mid to late 90's and you were buying it in the 80's....it changed to Jif for you in the 80's and it changed to Jif for me in 2000?? And all the adds up to as far back as 77 are for Jif??? I think time doesn't exist man, seriously.....what a friggin trip this is!

i don't even like peanut butter but i have a distinct memory of holding Jiffy. I could not have gotten Skippy mixed up with Jiffy because i literally just learned that Skippy is a thing. Anyways, i distinctly remember holding it because the f on the logo didn't fit into the blue color all the way and it bothered me, i also have a distinct memory of being at my Aunts house and i was too little to see into the cabinet, so instead i grabbed things out and looked at them, and sure enough i pulled out Jiffy instead of what i wanted, which was what i called at the time "Lids". I've always known it as Jiffy until today as I don't like Peanut Butter so I've never seen a different logo, not even in the stores as we never go that far down the aisle that the peanut butter is in.

Bottom lines... this doesnt prove anything lol... literally proves nothing............. huge logical flaws to use this for your proof that it was always JIFFY peanut butter.
