this guy is gold, and he probebly doesn't even know it
As a traditioinal woodworker who made a living for 25 years carving wooden spoons with a drawknife, shavehorse, crooked knives and gouges it warms my heart to see this man work. The toll it takes on you is something most folks don't figure in. Something called trigger finger in your hands, carpel tunnel, bursitis in the shoulder from axe work etc. I made good money but never enough to have a pension or savings. That's the downside. The other reality today is that essential materials are so expensive. The mild steel used in the barrel hoops would cost $30-$40.00 for one barrell if bought at the hardware store. One sleeve of sandpaper for a power sander is $7.50 and I used 4 grits to sand my spoons. I learned how to make axe handles from an old fellow but switched to spoons when I realized I couldn't survive on the money from hand carved tool handles. Spoons usesd many of the same skills but brought up to 10X as much at market. If you are young and thinking about doing something like this for a living just take a long hard look at the numbers before you jump in.
*Since the invention of injection molding and arc welding, Coopers are not the mainstay of communities they once were. That's unfortunate because this is a dying art form. Of which, this Man is a true master. One of the reasons CZcams has become the essential entity it is, is due to the archiving of historical crafts such as this. Getting these videos digitized and preserved for posterity.....Priceless*

If I lived close to this man, I would keep him busy, making me all sort of barrels and stuff. Great job.
At one time, i lived near a reserve, and an old gentleman used to make baskets and go door to door to sell them. He once to me that the younger generation weren't interested in learning. He now has passed away with no one to fill his shoes. What a shame to see his art die out.
Salute and respect u old man..
God has given u great heart and beautiful environment.
This is wonderful to see, old style craftsmanship reminding us of a simpler life.
❤❤❤❤❤🔥🔥🔥🔥👍👍👍👍👍👍💥💥💥💥💥❤❤❤❤❤
Not too many people left to do this, the young generation don't want to learn. Love those barrel wood. God bless you.
Unfortunately not
Almost brought a tear to my eye to see a man do so much with so little as I sit on my hoards of tools and still a fraction of what I see in him. A true master craftsman
Mein Onkel war Fassbauer
genannt bei uns in Deutschland Böttcher.Leider
stirbt dieser Beruf aus.Trotsdem gute Arbeit.
Sehr schön anzusehen.Vielen Dank.😊
He looks happy talking about his barrel making and woodworking...
Yeah, he is always tapping in his barn. He is happy indeed, doing what he loves.
We're gonna need all of these "outdated" skills again pretty soon.
I love this! I'm 70 and still making doors, doing circular work, and a lot of old house work. His eye and his skill are a joy to behold.
Kudos to you! You are right, it seems that handwork keeps people lucid and healthy at any age.

This makes my heart sing, deep deep inside. I hope the old man can know this.
We will let him know. Thank you for watching!
It would be great to spend a winter with him building barrels.
There's nothing like seeing a craftsman put a lifetime of experience and physical calibration to work like that.
Thank you for watching!
Watching this without needing the subtitles bc you can speak romanian makes it 100 times better.
His skills are great but as in so many areas these skills are not being passed on to the younger generations and i fear these skills will be lost ! I am 62 and new to carpentry, my first barrel is a disaster , i enjoy working wood with hand tools.
That is the best thing I've seen on CZcams
Simply amazing and beautiful
Românii.... Cel mai autentic popor!!!❤❤❤❤
It's very relaxing watching a real craftsman with dead sharp tools.
Thank you for watching!
A beautiful craft don’t forget it
I watch this presentation with great nostalgia, because my Great-Grandfather was a cooper - wheelwright an Landed Property in Linówiec (Poland).
I think Dad and Brother and I inherited these "constructor genes" from him.
I congratulate Mr. Cooper on continuing the tradition of his Ancestors. Best regards 😀.
Thank you for the likes 😀.
A very beautiful video .There is no age limit for working .It is we have decided that we become aged and take rest . Healthy body depends on hardworking and peace of mind. ....
Un salut din raionul Storojineț (Cernauți)! Îmi place cum lucrați 👍
What a marvelous job that fine gentleman made of that barrel . He should be the pride of his village . 👍🇬🇧
That old man is as tough as a training wheel, may God continue to bless you!
Thank you for watching!
God bless this wonderful man, in his eyes you can see that same spark that I cannot see in people the same age and younger. Thanks for the video, I was very glad to watch the work👍

❤fantastic job. I wish I had time to spend with a Cooper and a Wheelwright and learn this tradition.
Hope you will fulfill your dreams. Gr from Romania. Bianca
Very gifted man love watching this
Bravo travail parfait très très bien ❤👍☺️🥰
Very beautiful work, old man and video. Thank you for sharing this beauty.
Next time you see someone like Graham Hancock trying to tell you what can't be done with simple tools show them this man uding a strip of old cloth as a mesure for the barrel hoop. And neolithic flint tools were very sharp. Sand is a good abrasive. Practice of course is vital.
Your the man. Love it. I need a pickle jug!
This brings me great joy to see people of his age still practicing traditional cooper methods.
I am currently trying to learn the cooper trade the way it is shown in this video. I hope I live to be as old as this gentleman one day and still be able to practice and enjoy the trade as much as him.
Well done great video!
We are so happy that these skills are surviving through people like you. I wish you a long, happy life of coopering 🙌
Great to see another skilled craftsman working in a real workshop, not just a film set made to look like one, seen too often on utube!

Whoa! That jointer table saw combo with the saw blade sticking up 3 inches, but notice he’s still got all his fingers. It’s amazing to me that he can do so much work by eye and feel and in the end produce vessels that are water tight. Tremendous skill!
Does he look like a clumsy fella? Not to me!
Bravooo ❤
This man is an absolute artist.

That vintage planer/table saw combo is honestly quite frightening.
So many older trades and skills are being lost forever.
So impressive! It's sad to realize that this talented craft will soon be lost!
Amazing skills
