The Ruger LCP is the go-to pocket pistol for a lot of people. The only problem was that it had a relatively low capacity.
Now Ruger has come out with the LCP max which boasts an impressive 10 rounds with just an incremental increase in size.

At 10 ounces, this is a shootable pocket pistol, and the one you will have when you need it. Only a fool thinks a properly loaded 380 is a mouse gun. It is a close range life saving round. I have the LCP II and love it. I have big hands, and I had no trouble getting a good purchase on the gun, even if it was thin and small.. Purchased 3 of the extended 7 round magazines (solved the small issue, a little bit longer went a long way) and a Viridian Reactor instant-on laser and it was the perfect package. Once the laser was set, you couldn't miss at 25 yards, even hip shooting! It was video game easy to hit your target. But then the LCP MAX came out and what I thought was the perfect package... Wasn't. I still loved it, but once I held the LCP MAX, I knew. Bought one, and 3-12 round magazines, the Viridian laser fit perfect from the LCP II to the MAX. Went from carrying 21+1 rounds to 36+1 in the same thin, small magazine pouch and the same DeSantis holster that came with the Viridian. I wear the DeSantis between my waistband and my bet (inside the belt?) right side at 3:00-3:30, and the magazine pouch on my left side at 9:00, and no matter what shirt I wear, as long as it isn't tucked in, you truly cannot see it. It just doesn't print. And again, once the laser was set, it is video game easy to hit the target at 25 yards, with every single shot center mass. And Colion is absolutely right. I don't know what voodoo they did to this thing, but the recoil is negligible. It's not .22lr soft, but it's not much worse, and is SO SO EASY to manage. Staying on target for a follow up shot is laughingly easy, even with the laser off, but the laser truly makes it THE PERFECT self defense tool. Unless I am going to be somewhere that forbids me to carry on their premises, it is on me anytime I leave my house.

I just picked up a Max yesterday at my local shop. For years, I carried the original LCP Gen 2, which has a shorter trigger pull. This Max has way less recoil, and is extremely comfortable too use for carry and extended shooting. It shoots a little low, but I can easily compensate for that. Its made to keep me and my family alive, not win competitions.

*I started out with the LCP and for a couple years it was my EDC. yeah it wasn't "Great" not really even "good" but it was compact and easy to carry in my back pocket or Jacket pocket undetected. the trigger was a little stiff for my liking but everything else about the gun was perfect. I now have the LCP max and i've given my mother my original LCP so that she'll have something in the event that she needs it. my entire family are concealed carry permit holders (all but my 3 daughters) i chose to buy another LCP because the size is perfect and this one being a 10 round is perfect however i have ordered the 12 round magazine for it already too. the longer magazine will help me keep a third finger on the gun as it's shooting. i shoot a 7" group at 35 yards with it pulling up from the hip to ready, fire and i really missed my LCP while it's been with my mother so the max was just the next sensible option for me. no discomfort carrying it. no printing through my clothes, no one getting nervous and getting you kicked out of fast food places or libraries or the like because they are nervous and scared when they even see a gun. it's just the best portable option to go incognito and still be able to protect yourself*

I have over 100 mostly high end pistols because I love the unique experiences each provides. I, like you, was impressed by the size of the LCP series but unimpressed by its shooting impressions, both accuracy and its recoil and shooting feel. When the Max came up I almost passed because how different could it be??
Well, as you know it’s night and day. This is shockingly fun to shoot and after my first 7 yard mag printed 1” groups amazingly accurate. I love your explanation! It is some kind of Voodoo magic shit, as it is as soft as my WCB MC9 (can’t believe I just compared those two but to be clear it is not nearly the same experience overall).
They say that you can only become proficient at shooting the guns you shoot which is a great axiom and the primary reason I would never carry the LCP. This one comes with me on most range trips and I already have 500 rounds of flawless shooting through it. The only downside is that it’s a pain in the ass to clean because it requires a tool but that is a small price to pay for this highly underrated shooter.

I for one like the longer trigger pull and the fact it is only partially cocked and can't set off a round without the trigger being pulled all the way. The Max and the II are not even close to the concealability of the original. Have tried both. No way no how. The Max sounds like a great idea, and looks good till you realize how much wider and heavier it has gotten. I think most reviewer‘s are finding it the same. The recoil still there, maybe slightly damp and by having a few extra rounds of weight in your hand but realistically that’s not much of a difference, but I think having the wider grip allows your hand just to grab it better and it re-distribute that recoil better and gives you better control so it’s not tearing you up quite as bad as the LCPII. I love the LCP two, it’s my favorite back up/pocket model, but it’s not fun to shoot more than a couple magazines through and if you go put 50 or 100 rounds through it you’re going to feel it. I think having a wider grip just fits most hands better and gives you more control and is more comfortable come instead of trying to pinch it to control it you can really grab it. I think that just makes it better in the hand in a little easier to control, and with the trigger makes it a great choice.
Lol I loved your review and how excited you got about it. I think that says a lot. You shoot a lot of different guns and for a small utility type model like this because that much enjoyment and excitement is pretty cool, And says a lot about it. I want one. Lol.

I'd guess two, maybe three, reasons. First, LCP II weights 1.2 ounces more than the LCP. That means less felt recoil. Second, the original Ruger LCP had 9 lbs. recoil spring I believe and 11 lbs. is factory standard for LCP II. Third, the improved grip texture likely makes it so it bounces around less in your hand, which gives the appearance of less recoil.

@@wheelguns4wheelmen802 I was wondering about the spring, but hadn’t looked it up yet, thanks. It’s an amazing difference. Now it just needs dovetailed sights so you can install proper sights if you want. Lol

For my line of work and where I live this has been a perfect EDC. In Florida the stainless slide is a must, especially working outdoors all day like I do.
Extremely ergonomic for a pistol that small. I get a full wrap with the 12 round mag. It required a break in but thousands of rounds later and weekly usage, it's a hell of a bargain

@@JPMandz I use an Uncle Mike's size 10 fits the ruger lcp and other small guns. Only thing I don't like is that the ankle holster stretches a bit through the day. Have to adjust a cpl times per day, no biggie, just sayin.

The best gun is the one you carry. This is a great gun to carry, especially in the summer with a Desantis G3 Pocket holster.

Great video! I find my micro 9 uncomfortable to carry and prone to "print". I have carried my .380 much more than I have carried it, but have always wished it held more rounds. I really like this pistol and am planning on purchasing one later this year, or early next year.

@@MrGriff305I carried the lcp2 for 3 years in the left pockets of my basketball shorts. I Even slept with it. It did an excellent job of looking like a wallet.
Now I carry the lcp max. It weighs almost the same, gives you 4 or 6 more rounds, and has better sights. Being wider is a tradeoff, but it helps when training at the range.
If maximum concealment is top priority, then you should carry the lcp2 with confidence.
In my area, if I ask nicely at the gun shop, they will let me make sure the gun fits in my pocket

@@kevinclause4p55p5 Appreciate the feedback. The extra half inch shorter of the II for easy draw and the looking like a wallet is a real advantage. I'd hope that the max could pull that off too, otherwise there's no point to this class of gun. Like you said, I just have to try it out.. Thanks!

Problem is finding .380 ammo reliably, because I own one of these and it absolutely hates cheap steel cased ammo. If you’re running brass it’s not an issue, but steel makes it choke and fail to feed a lot more than is acceptable. On the plus side, you get a whole lot of malfunction training with this gun if you’re running enough steel case ammo through it.
