I feel like some people think if you’re taking pictures or videos or whatever you’re not “living in the moment” which I don’t think is a great argument. People experience and enjoy the same concerts differently and as long as you’re being respectful of those around you I think you do you. I love taking photos at concerts because I love being able to go home and edit and touch up pics and have cool shots to look back on. At the same time I try not to have my phone block anyone’s view, I never use flash, and I try to not look at the concert through my phone while I’m there.
I also have chronic health issues which make standing through concerts uncomfortable and painful and so I’m usually unable to dance around and sing at concerts anyway. I’ve had someone harass me after a show because “I wasn’t singing enough” and I had been given a set list. Calling people out for enjoying shows within their limitations or just cause they’re enjoying it a different way is so petty.
Although I haven’t done it in a few years, I have recorded full shows before and I think the archival of live music is super neat. I’m so grateful to the people who’ve uploaded videos of full concerts of bands that have since disbanded. Last year I was able to help out a friend who had gotten covid right before seeing Tessa Violet and so after the show i uploaded the videos I had taken to google drive for them so they could still hear/see some of the show.
I can see how having audiences full of people looking at you through their phone could be annoying but if you’re not gonna address it in a kind way I feel like you’re just alienating a bunch of people who paid to see you and are just trying to have a fun time.

I can take a video of a special song or cool part without feeling like I’m missing out, and then I have a slice of time saved. It’s good to remember to be in the moment, but it is up to each individual to know how they will best find value in an experience. 🧡 I also tend to somewhat blackout at concerts after a certain amount of time bc I get sensory overload, and so a video may be my ONLY memory of certain parts. generally speaking, i understand as an artist wanting people to “be in the moment” and not use their phones, but i think it’s kind of wild to ask people that paid money to see you not to take pictures or videos to remember the experience. especially if there’s no policy against phones going into the venue. if an artist i loved called me out and embarrassed me like that i could never listen to their music the same way again.
i went to a men i trust concert and i wanted to be “too cool” to use my phone but ultimately i caved and had an amazing night while taking photos and videos that i’ll always have to look back on!

I went to a boygenius concert a little while back, and a fan happened to be snapping photos of Phoebe while she was performing Letter to an Old Poet. The fan was close to her, in the pits. She asked the fan not to take any more photos, because the song is about her experience in a emotionally and possibly physically abusive relationship and is very important for her. I don’t think anyone would want to have photos taken of them while they’re recounting a harrowing experience, so her request was completely valid. It’s one that I absolutely agree with and understand.

I rarely post them, it's just a way to tell myself "Hey this is special, I'll want something to remember it at some point!" and notice beautiful things to capture with my camera for a moment.

This group of ladies spent over 4 minutes, in the FRONT ROW, on flash., backs turned. Apparently, the people around them were annoyed at the group bc it was distracting. They were having a literal photo shoot…each lady got multiple single shots and a bunch of different group pix. I saw someone taking a video of those ladies and they were A LOT!! And it comes to the most emotional part of the song, they all have their backs to her & continuing their flash photo shoot and it finally got to Miranda. She’s trying to give her all for this song dripping with emotion, yet the only emotion she felt was annoyance. Miranda let their behavior continue for close to 5 minutes and THEN decided to tell them “enough is enough”. Had I been behind those ladies, I would’ve clapped at her remarks.
Be courteous of who’s around you and not act like you’re the only person there. The majority of venues don’t allow real camera’s with the detachable lenses. Man, I’m less distracting with my camera, regardless of the lens I use than most people are with their camera phones.

It's clear that this Miranda Lambert person can't handle anyone not having their attention on her for even a moment, and clearly doesn't care whether her fans have a fun time or a memorable experience. So gross.
Also you definitely didn't go too hard on her! I was watching this thinking, how come so many undeserving artists get domed with a cell phone these days when Miranda Lambert is just asking for it with the way she treats her fans?! Lmao

i don’t go to concerts often. when i do go i get so so excited. i love taking videos so i can watch them afterwards. i’ve been to shows that i’ve filmed the whole show (this was when i was younger and i don’t have space to do that). like i paid to be able to take pictures and stuff. i want to be able to remember this night. if i was singled out like that by an artist that i love i would be so so upset. i don’t think i could ever listen to that artist again

It’s interesting the difference in reaction between these and some like Steve Lacy or Tyler (just examples I remember where people thought it was justified despite the fans doing much less). Like bro smashed a whole camera and told off a fans mom. It’s interesting because people play it off as fine because “just 16 yr old white girls”

Why is it fine he's being treated like a tiktok prop? Y'all need to see artists as human.
And the "telling off a girl's mom" was a girl who clearly waited until it got totally quiet so she could have a viral moment. Lmao, come on.

I went to this Logic concert in Salt Lake City recently and there was this guy in the very front. He was clearly super hyped to be there and was singing every lyric like they meant so much to him. Logic stopped the song, told him to chill and calm down and then started the song over again. I love logic but it was so weird bruh

I meaaaan sometimes those beach balls that aren't like part of the show and provided by the staff can be really annoying if it's not like a festival or something. Idk I don't want to get bopped in the head or booed at because I didn't hit the ball to keep it going that someone just decided to chuck into the crowd.

I went to a concert last Tuesday that had a no photo/no video policy - it was kind of annoying because there was no warning about it before the show, but honestly kind of nice?? I feel like every time I go to a concert half the audience’s arms and phones are in my way of seeing the actual artist, but at the same time I want to be able to take a picture or two and feel like I should be able to do that respectfully

  • @XOChristianaNicole
    @XOChristianaNicole Před rokem +2

Texting and taking photos are two very different things. At the Miranda Lambert show - there are other clips of these women, from other audience members. The women were being incredibly inconsiderate, it was obvious.
The texting thing.. That’s nobody’s freakin’ business. As long as I am not in a movie theater and the light isn’t causing an interruption - mind your damned business.

calling out people for texting is so frustrating too because like, you dont know why theyre on their phone. you dont know who theyre texting. personally i use my phone to ground myself during bouts of anxiety, i would be so upset if a performer called me out for ignoring them

I’m convinced that one day the artists that do this are going to get so humbled bc someone is going to be like “I was taking a video to send to my mom because she really wanted to come but she’s in cancer treatment” 😭

I once had a band perform during one of my DJ nights, and the crowd left the venue not much later after they went on, kudos to them the singer just closed their eyes and kept performing even knowing they made the crowd leave. So your points are totally valid. People acting liking video recordings at shows hasn't been around since the 80s, 90s 😂

only time i’ve seen recently where someone called out an audience member and it was a net positive is when a group i enjoy told someone not the throw something onto the stage and at the group. and he didn’t point at them or take a super angry tone but pretty firm. when it’s a safety concern is when i think it’s truly warranted

  • @BakedBrain7100

Something that I think as someone who’s performed on stage alot also is the stage lights are so bright, it takes effort to spot someone doing something in the audience on a stage. Especially when the lights are low in The audience and you have a spotlight or two on stage.

I take all kinds of pictures and videos at every concert I go to. I watch the videos back all the time. Why would I not want to capture the moment of a band or artist I love and be able to relive the live experience over and over again? I have a shitty ass memory, I’m not going to remember the little details of the concert. But you know what will? My memory card. The cloud. I can relive these moments over and over again.
Plus I’m a full time videographer/photographer. You think I’m not going to take pictures and video of something I’m enjoying???? Fat chance.

You can’t know any public figure in their totality, but what I WILL say is that I saw Miranda Lambert on an episode of Say Yes to the Dress, and I was floored by how rude and immature she was. She was an actual black hole of charisma and I was not surprised at all when Blake Shelton divorced her. 🤷🏽‍♂️
