Fast, Amateur Driver vs Fast Car

  • Had a great first event with Speed Dynamics at Thunderhill West in the Low Advanced group. This is the first run session. The Miata was tail happy at the time (later realized due to blown shocks), so I wasn't confident around traffic in corners. Both the Mustang GT and Miata are great track cars. The Mustang driver was in the wrong run group and needed more seat time. Seemed like they were blocking, which was frustrating at the time. Traffic thinned out after the second session. The heat probably helped out. Cars were over heating but the Miata didn't seem phased. Did my fastest lap during the last lap of the last session at 1:34.9 - • 1990 Miata @ Thunderhi... - a 0.5 sec faster than my previous pb.
    Specs:
Video recorded using Harry's LapTimer on iPhone4s
    Music credit - DJ Shadow
    1990 Miata 1.6L
    110 whp & 101 ft-lb
Motor oil - AMSOIL Signature Series 5w30
Jackson Racing header & Borla exhaust
Custom Intake and dyno tuned AFM
    Type I Torsen LSD
FatCat Suspension 550f/350r - shocks were blown
Sway bars: Flyin Miata front on stiff / Stock rear
    GarageStar Delrin Door Bushings
    BFG Rival 225/45r15
    6UL 15"x9"
    Carbotech XP8 brake pads

This video isn’t about embarrassing anyone or degrading the Mustang, which is an amazing track car - czcams.com/video/b8q1UcgcY5Q/video.html. It just shows that seat time is more important than model year and max hp. It’s also a plea that if a low hp car is catching a high hp car in the corners, for the love of sacred holey socks, please lift and let the little hp car pass. Then follow and learn to be faster.

Cakes Maker The “cool” setting channel’s in ambient air, but once the duct work gets heated by the sun, it’s much hotter, plus like you said, there’s probably some engine heat leaking in. I tend to roll the windows up on the highways to reduce noise and being in a convection oven still seems better than not having the fan on.

Thanks for watching. Normally on the street I run the 1512's (or Bobcat I think they're also called). But I've been lazy and run the xp8's for a month or 2 of daily driving. For me the xp8s only downside on the street is dust and cost. I don't remember a noise difference. I have run 1512's for autocross and they were fine without any fading.

Minding that last corner you might wanna not let yourself swing out so much. Without the power the car behind you had, they easily can come right back up on your tail. That said, you do have good awareness of stat advantages, and that outside overtake with the z car was very well done!

I had this happen at Grattan Raceway in Mi, they rarely do open Track days as they often are always booked with track rentals. I was in an 86 NA FC RX7 and the other car was a 2nd gen eclipse. He had 100hp more than me so I'd lose him on the straight, but would catch up by the end of turn 1 because I was lighter, had better brakes and could carry more speed, but I could never get past, because he'd hog the track and Grattan doesn't have that many good places to pass. It was plenty of fun for sure, but I was pissed.

@@Staytunedmotorsports Last year when i entered my first oficial amater race i hawe opertunit to show my skill and knolage of racing. I'm bean in to cars for the big part of my life but newer before owned a car build up for race track. My car is Alfa Romeo GTV 2000 year model with buso 916 engine / 3.0 V6 naturaly aspired. So the cars is stript of al unnecesary weight, roll cage in it profesional racing seats and 6 point safty harnest. I was compeating on a track in Croatia called Grobnik against friend of my who spent in last 3 months more than 12.000 € on his track race car. His poison is Nissan Sunny Pulsar with AWD drive and 2.0 L turbo engine he changed the old stock turbo with more modern turbo and put biger intercoler in his car alsow for bether exseleration he bought specielaized R15 rims with sport tyers which cist him about 2.500€. So to shorten my story he was driving a car set up to 335 hp, the car was on dyno two days before race. When we drove first time chalenge i realized i hawe good chance to beat him. In secont time chalenge i hawe decresed my tyers preshur in fron to 1.4 bar at back of the car 1.3 bar. So the grip was fucking crazzy... I pushed trug 8 shicanes as fast i cude. I gain about 4 seconds comparing to my first time atack. In combine time i hawe beat him for 1 second with care which produces around 280 hp maybe. So 50 hp less hevier car, hevier driver i weight about: 245 lbs 6.3... My daile job is working in the coal mine 500m under ground... My friend has to daily drivers one of those car is Nissan GTR 2008 year model with: 650 hp, secong is SUV Mercedes ML and ttack day car Nissan Pulsar. I beat him becose i did what i did and i belive in my: 24 years of driving and changing diferent typ of cars i gaint much more exsperiance then him.
Well i know two guys who are in car raci g for more than 20 years and i know that if we take same cars and go on same track they will school me for 4-5 seconds on lap. It's interesting and exspencive sport which brings together nice people.

I find it intriguing that there are always people in the wrong run groups (judging by skill/line/braking/acceleration points) A lot of those "better cars" were running beginner times 1:40+?? Your NA with those mods at those times in low advanced (depending on org) is cool. The faster cars running high 1:3x - 1:4x should perhaps be shifted around run groups. Though less problematic if they actually did a point by and lifted.
Also how blown were your shocks? Covered in oil + old dust attracted oil? I have a slow leak in my rear right KW V3 but I want to grind it to the ground (safely) as I can before I change up to maximize my $ to usage ratio.
