I almost forgot about this!! Uncut video of on-board footage with the original '98-spec TRD N2 Levin built by Tadao Sakurai (now owned by KMS's Koshimizu) and driven by 'Drift King' Keiichi Tsuchiya. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Just going to say this to those criticizing Tsuchiya's skills..he's been driving with actual track experience longer than anyone else, especially before any of you were born including myself. I'm only saying this because I don't want to hear some BS person trying to make some technical discussion w/o knowing the backstory of the car or experience or because of a simulator or some reference from Initial D. Whatever it is, I just want everyone to enjoy the video.
As far as the car setup goes, this was the car's first debut in 1998 and did not have the modifications it would receive later in its times for refinement (i.e. 14" tires to 15"s tires, engine tweaked for 8,500-9,000RPM instead of 9,500 shift point, TRD rear shocks replaced with PCR shocks, equal length 4-links mod, GT-Wing, etc.) so considering this was the car's shakedown, it's not a bad result for 3rd place but again it wasn't refined. If you watch the AE86 Club volumes, you'll see the progress it went through from 1998 to 2001/2002. That's just my 2 cents, I'm not here to put down anyone with their opinions but it's annoying to see someone just post some blatant comment without knowing the reasoning and acting as if they've driven longer than the guy himself. Let's just all enjoy the driving and sound!
Thank you for putting that out, getting kinda miffed some people here would coach Keiichi about having bad lines etc. I mean, this is a race/drift champion we're talking about! If it's anything it's the car that's holding him back in the corners.
@@powerfultoa7 Exactly! It gets annoying especially to my friend on Instagram who runs the @vhs_refresh page.
I think it's awesome! Don't know anything about driver . But if he a older guy that's even better! Did not find out until mid 30's was a decent kart racer! Elbows out a bit of snap to steering and no tech Toys to help him out! Has my respect!🏁
Well said my man. He's a fantastic racing driver that applies all the principles of old school racers including his ability to control the slides. As for all the haters and critics, when you win two class titles at the 24 Hours of Le Mans you can come back and talk shit. Until then you're just a bunch of armchair theorist! Oss to the Dorifto King!
@@fadedsideways Yeah, it's so easy to be an armchair critic of his driving but the reality is people don't experience the high intensity adrenaline Keichii endures and only judge in hindsight of what could be better. Some probably think that just because they're good at sims and have perfect lines that they feel they can coach someone who has actual track experience.
The reality is, unless you feel the real danger and physical stress of driving at that level consistently you're pretty much just judging his driving on a superficial level.
This is how all motorsport should be shown , pov with a foot cam xD
Until you realize most modern race cars use sequential boxes
faisal3398 exactly
@@faisal3398 What does that matter?
"Motorsport for boring fuckers"
I enjoy a nice gauge camera next to foot camera as well
you can see the moment when frustration starts to lead to little mistakes in shifting and braking
really good content
To me it looked more like a gearbox that wasn't currently working at it's best.
yep, misshifting is very common for a racer who's in panic haha
Its because the car wasnt up to his driving standards... he had to drive below his average
yea the car infront of him should have let him pass, his racing line wasnt as good as Tsuchiya
@@cmccann4 thats cause he was defending. When someone is trying to overtake you obviously take a different line so as to not just let them by. If there’s no blue flag you don’t have to let anyone by.
everybody gangsta till the heel to toe shift comes in
Instead of tofu you sell meatball?
I missed driving manual for that reason, heel and toe downshift. Had a blast in my Evo Viii and X. Too bad I sold them. All these new cars come with paddle shift. It’s not the same kinda fun. Can’t wait for the new GR86 or Corolla GR. It’s going to be my next Uber car for sure. Minus the bad gas mileage lol.
@@GSFBeastV8 production of AT cars has been a nuisance. I get it, it's good for traffic but the amount of skill an AT driver is most likely equal to a kindergarten student. I can say this because my dad taught me the wheel at kindergarten and fully trusted me on elementary but only on the wheels since I can't reach the pedals. AT sucks. And also, I suggest you get a nissan almera 2022 too. Drives like a charm.
You can actually feel him controlling his emotions as he's driving, and it's a beautiful thing to experience. Guy in front of him was too haughty to pass safely.
I was trying to kill him by my screen.... like "Duuuuuuuuuude ! Just moove ! You loosed already ! Dont cheat ! rrrraaaaaaah !"
Especially if you watch him drive in hot version, whenever someone challenges his 86 his driving is on another level
@@tracef.2865 he says that the cars he's comfortable enough to push to the limits are his AE86 and the Maou S2K
@@babaorume1 defending his line and position isn't cheating.
@@babaorume1 thats cause he was defending. When someone is trying to overtake you obviously take a different line so as to not just let them by. If there’s no blue flag you don’t have to let anyone by.
Man I love the heel toe work . A lost art of racing .
samuel bennett also it’s not easy to manipulate depending on the position of the pedal and brakes..
true! today autoshifting has taken over
A lot of sequential gearboxes still require the driver to rev match and a lot of local grassroots racing series still welcome cheap, manual cars. You don't always have to look at the pinnacle of motorsport like WEC, WRC and F1 because their main focus is technological innovation.
hah...a real driver will always remember the clutch
@@ear2thestreet There is no auto-shifting in racing unless you're talking beginner go-karts. Nearly all major racing series: Supercars, GT World Challenge, Formula One, WRC, etc. use manual sequential gearboxes with the exception of NASCAR who still use the traditional H-Pattern in their cars. I can't think of a single racing series that uses automatic cars.
3:33 Wow, perfect skill.
@Kane-baka 'lightning-quick footwork' as he likes to put it :)
I know the comment its old but in wich gears did he shift?
Alex Lucian I think from 5th to 4th and from 4th to 3rd
@@alexlucian9598 5th to 4th to 3rd
Keichi: hehe drift
Clearly the car in front has better cornering setup that matches tsukuba better than dk's car, tsuchiya's ae86 only have standard rear wign which doesnt provide any downforce whatsoever, to maintain standard look.
Still he never give up and give 120% effort. A true fighter at heart.
Respect is given when respect is due
If im not wrong the AE86 he is driving is a TRD 86 (an old version of it, after that TRD improved it)
No way, white car in front of him had a terrible line. You can notice tsuchiya starts taking abnormal lines after being unable to pass that road hog for so long
Car in front of him driving very dirty.
1:18 the bye bye lol
Haha he was passing Orido if I'm not mistaken :P
@@TakumiFuji01 Really? Orido Was Racing Too!? That Makes It Even Funnier.

Ive been trying to learn heel and toe recently and seeing how fast, effortless, and perfectly he does it blows my mind.
It helps alot when the pedals are the right height and the throttle response is quick, i had no issues with my subaru and mitsubishi's in the past, but the car i have now the accelerator pedal is far lower down than the brake, and the pedal travel is very long, so i cannot brake and rev up enough to match the rpm for the gear below.
learning it on my 2012 camaro ls was a bit of a curve because the peals arent straight and throttle response is not the best but after about 8 months of owning the car, i can do it as if its second nature. i do it when stopping or when im about to turn.@@Colt45hatchback
Im often asked why i like old cars and old racing videos better
This speaks for itself
The skills when driving old cars have something special. Todays car cant get this, thats why old cars video feels better
On the limit traction! Sad to see he couldnt pass the guy at the end. If he had more rear stability coming out of the last corner he would've nailed him for sure
Ryosuke wasn't there before the race to give him some very good advice.
@@mojeimja Lmfaoo
He rushed it thats why his line affected his speed.
He made the same mistake in all attempts. He shouldve stayed in the same line and pass coming out of the corner.
Moje Imja but isn’t keiichi supposed to be bunta?? 🤣
As the world progresses to double clutch automatic gearboxes, self driving and evs, I like to come back to this video, just to look at this master in action, his technic and emotion makes me smile from ear to ear but at the same time I have tears in my eyes, knowing that his technic and skills are not needed today to win a race, where you have a computer to do it for you and it makes me even sadder to think that in the near future non of this will need a human touch, which adds mistake sure, but at the same time it adds color and beauty to driving. So is the noise, and the sliding.
I'll miss seeing this in racing
Why do you think that gen z will miss out on it? They will certainly not.
You could definitely tell that the car in 2nd was much more planted on corner entry and exit. That driver was definitely not fighting the car as much as Tsuchyia was fighting his.
Tsuchiya had a better racing line. the guy infront of him was braking way too much, look at how quickly he caught up through apex. he looked unstable because Tsuchiya had to brake so much when they have different racing lines
@@cmccann4 and Tsuchiya's TRD N2 car wasn't setup properly, especially it was only on it's first year. This was way back in 1998
Now I have to watch it again so I can see the actual race, rather than just his epic footwork.
Wow! The art of racing. Tsuchiya-san is a true legend:)
That engine sound is glorious
This Man Is A Monster .. just give this man any car and here will bring out its potential . Nuff said
His shifts are so captivating 🤯
this is how racing should be. racing where you actually have to shift. more fun.
They do this only this time half the work is whith the help of electronics and such
Ikr. Miss the era when even Senna of F1 shifting gear in his 1000+hp f1 car.
I'm genuinely surprised the guy in front of him stayed there for that long. You can see him trying his hardest not to let DK pass. And you can see his frustration leek into his driving entering corners to fast and missing shifts too
That driving precision, ultra precise shifting, finding grip, cornering tighter, braking late, sometimes a but too much haha but wow. I had goosebumps watching that battle. Amazing.
That's just insane! Seeing the driveway and 4 input devices gives signals according to the reflex. Hatsoff! Thriller MT.
0:51 Of course the panda trueno is drifting
Well..the Silvia S14 front brake setup caused Orido to lock up lol
Where's my fd??
DK on Monster Energy towards the end. He turned that single clutch into a dual clutch. 😂
He likes his 86s setup like gokarts.
exec11 us 86’s do drive like gokarts
@@_Mav yeah i remember driving a electric kart and outside of throttle lag after hard whipping they feel really similar still would rather have a kp61 starlet from toyota or a subaru 360 since it weighs like 600 pounds and is still a five seater or better then all just building my own rwd kart styled car with five seats and a big hatch with fat tires
I did not know this footage existed, the footwork is just amazing for lack of a better word
A moment of madness cost him time but he recovered well but! There's a flat spot in power at a certain rpm

A moment of change from 3 to 4. I like the sound of the engine🎶🖤
Sensational rev matches 🤌🏾
I’ve learned so much now
I love how he is not afraid to unleash the car's full potential
The rev matching is so crisp my ocd is in ecstacy
Does he slightly lift the clutch on those 4th to 2nd changes? I can't tell.
I use to drift around this track all the time in gran turismo 5 and 6
This is probably the best, cleanest, most badass feet technique I've ever seen, more having in count how the car had por rear end stability and shifter seemed to have some technical issues after few laps...
E ovo su trke!!! Bravooo!!! 👏👏👏👏
@1:18 the bye bye, LEGENDARY
AND ALSO ALL THE MOVES AND CONTROLS WERE AMAZING FOR THOSE COMPLAINING ABOUT HIM
YOU CAN SEE EVEN AT THE HIGHEST THROTTLE AND PROPER GEAR SHIFT THE COULD ONLY PASS FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS AND THE NEXT CAR WOULD PICK UP AS ITS ACCELERATION IS QUITE HIGH
Keiichi showing us the absolute limits of the car.
I can watch this all day
I inspire to get my skills to a level like this 😁
This is oddly satisfying to watch
Them heel toe is like second nature to him. Real legendary DK 🙌
Amazing
ORGASMIC sound, orgasmical downshifts speed, great driving and duel.
ART 😍
Wow he can sure drive the 86..back end seemed twitchy
Yeah back end is all over the place especially upon braking at corner entry, it likes to slide out
Needs some left foot braking 😉
damn son that rev match was insanely quick and it was into a corner as well
Keiichi may not be the fastest around the corner... but damn he is the only one to bring a tear of joy to my eyes everitime i see him behind the wheel...
great racing!
Speed foot!!!👍👍👍good job! Good video
I guess the race was short enough that the track officials felt it wasn't necessary to move the disabled car off the track.
Haha it was a Best MOTORing race but yeah, I believe it was a 7 lap race?
The car lost a wheel, see onboard footage here: czcams.com/video/r_8IpoQaifM/video.html
I suppose the laps are too short and the track too narrow to move the disabled vehicle of the track with a forklift without aborting the race.
Nice Race 👍
That clutch less shifting at the end was awesome!
Love how he waves as he passes.
absolutely insane
Me envanta !!! Sonido , tecnica y habilidad !!! Nice 🏁 Nice Sound !!!
This guy is a real all around super driver✊my 🦸♂️
The rev on that engine is eargasmic
the white car driver in front of keiichi tsuchiya is the owner and tuner of spirit mrs that always featured in touge battle who breaks 24.9 seconds
The bloody throttle control is unreal
music to my ears 4AGE engine sounds so organic
dobro ga je odvozao, svaka cast. ovako ja volim ponekad da provozam.
god i love the sound
Woooo smooth racing! I bet if he was to follow the white car into turn 1 instead of cutting into the inside he would have carried more speed into the next lap and would have enough momentum for a pass on next straight away.
Awesome!!!
I’m jus very amazed holy crap
my goat 🥰
Какой приятный звук, каааайф. Тсучия уважение за упорство, видна борьба с машиной на протяжении всех кургов. А автомобиль спереди более стабилен показалось.
Yes this is how we should watch all the motor sport races, pov with foot work my adrenaline really pumps
Those quick downshifts. 👍

Drive like a boss
the driver of tecno pro spirit and owner tuner of this car he is known fo being a good blocking technique taniguchi and orido praise him because they can't pass him in n2 race
Beautiful 😢
This is so much more enjoyable than Fast & Furious, real racing
amazing, the guy infront had a better cornering setup but still this guy managed to be close behind him.
Car is the limit here, he push the car to the limit, the heel and toe skill is just crazy fast and match the rev so well, i envy him.. Haha...
so this is why many sim racing games in this era always give advice like "slow in, fast out" and many more
That would be the ideal cornering pattern, yes. It isn't much useful when attacking your opponent however, unless your opponent is an actual slowpoke skill-wise.
Tsuchiya's Trueno has more power then the front AE86 but losing traction at the corner, you can notice he has to battle with the oversteer when exiting corner, the front AE86 has more rear end grip then Tsuchiya's, that's why he did not manage to overtake him at the last high speed corner.
2nd points is that, Tsuchiya been racing for so many years in GT cars, long hour endurance races, including 24 hours of Lemans. This little AE86 race is not even putting any stress on him, he was probably enjoying doing this aggressive move and did it in purpose, don't forget this is part of Best motoring documentary, it needs some exciting scene for audience.
There was no left foot braking in this video
He's so skilled he made shifting down two gears look like he was just double clutching
when the customer says they wanna take it for a test drive
👍Amazing ♥️♥️♥️
That footwork.... Oh mama
Nice leg work
he plays that car like a trumpet!
