JENKEM - The Evolution of... NYC's Pyramid Ledges
Vložit

- The Pyramid Ledges are super popular with both out-of-towners and locals too lazy to explore because they look cool (all those little edges poking out) and they're "centrally located." But more importantly, compared to other iconic New York spots like D7 or Black Hubba, these ledges fairly easy to skate (i.e. even if you suck you can get a clip).
Really, the biggest challenge at this spot are the Wall Street assholes on their lunch break or cops suggesting you go scooter in the East River.
We were able to get in touch with Mark Suciu, Zered Bassett, RB Umali, Aaron Meza, and Josh Kalis to piece together a little oral history of notable tricks that have gone down at the spot.

Please don't ever stop this series.
i've always wanted to see interviews with architects that designed spots. why they even build ledges n shit, if they're hyped on how hyped we get about spots or if they truly hate us, etc ??
The dude that designed love park he thought skateboarding was sick he was even on board with trying to make it a skate park
Transworld interveiwed the designer of love park. I remember reading the article years ago, and thinking the dude was cool af and had had an awesome outlook on what his design for a park came to mean for skateboarding. Hopefully you can find it somewhere
@@Deadsetdead lol thats me
@@Deadsetdead hey bro im 28 and am having trouble with this sentence in particular: "There are best purpose literature available to planners and architects to avoid use by skateboarders." It actually doesn't make sense. maybe i'm just lacking in understanding the implied context...A little help in explaining what you meant in different words for us simpletons would be nice. peace!
Same!
I’m surprised they didn’t show tyshawn’s nollie bs noseblunt. That shit was sooooo clean!
Christopher Harris tyshawn’s nollie bs noseblunt deserves its own tribute. That was one of the sickest looking ones ever, it was almost like he was just dream floating at full speed.
So I can understand why they couldn’t included every different trick that went down on those ledges.
He/his sponsors or someone probably wouldn’t let them use it for free or without paying money
Everybody still sleeping on Westgate-
The spot destroyer
Also people forget he's the KING of all bumps over bar, especially kickflip
I think a pretty obvious one too do is the evolution of the brooklyn banks
Dan Therman well now it is... but it was going strong for decades and it's still there unlike some spots.
@@strictlybusiness1679 rip
I always liked the JJ tre flip noseslide
4:23 Insufficient. want to watch more...

Tyshawn nolie back nose blunt isn’t in this video and that is a real shame
SOTY 2018
Wow that kickflip front tail is insane
These spot evolution videos are some of the absolute best content on CZcams.
Damn I love grittiness and roughness of the East Coast spots. NYC, Philly, even Boston spots, they really have something special in their look, their bricks and concrete, the materials they're made of, the style of design that all the California spots don't have. And having skaked on both coasts, I can easily say the East is really more tough to skate and master generally speaking.
love these videos makes me see these spots in a new way when im there
Love seeing old clips of these spots like this . I’m from NYC used to see this spot back in the early 00’s till now of course. Legendary spot and the Banks
Woah Kalis bigspin back tail was soooo good. Jake Johnson's tricks were crazy too

Such a hard ledge to skate, but any trick on it felt amazing.
We were skating those back in 1987!
Touring new York atm and skated it yesterday, it's still good. Was a lot harder to skate than I expected but I got a basic trick 😬

Cool thing you included a clip from 'VERSO' :)

These vids are RAD.
Zered Basset , Zoo York, early 2000s.....if only I could go back in time.....
The first trick suciu did on it was bs tail fs shuv and the first trick he does on it in verso is the same but switch. Verso is about symmetry and suciu is a genius.
Meza kicked it with me and my homies when i saw him at an adidas event...such a chill dude

That's my weed smoking spot during break in the Thumbnail.
I remember kids were skating this in the mid 1980's, always after hitting the banks... why does this "evolution" focus on early to mid 2000's???
I feel like a boss. I sakted these ledges before and mentioned them in a comment section. Had no clue wht the name of this spot was so i called them the pyramid ledges. Again. like a mfing boss.
Oh, and these mfers are soo jacked, so any grinds in them is impressive af.

Keep saying it's not real physics...just wait for these new kids coming up
Bring Steve Olson back...
make replica spots. why dont the top brands of skateboarding NIKE ADIDAS BERRICS tony hawk, ect ect chip in and build replica spots around the world instead of bullshit skate parks imagine a street skating designed park with famous spots like these ledges as an obsatcle, or the ledges at love park. instead they let pros have private lock ups like berrics onvite only.
Looks sketchy
