T-Funk jumping the big bench was one of the most beautiful moments in skateboarding history
shouldn't go there with a bike
MAD LOVE!
So gnar they had to do a piece on it.
@@coalateapepper and it was the ender piece at that!
Trick of the year. Trick of the decade.
In slip-ons!
Man that was a pretty awesome little doc! I'd love to see more of them about different spots.

Right
T-Funk is the truth. I can't even imagine the feeling of doing a trick that makes John Fuckin Cardiel say holy shit that was crazy. On top of the fact that people have been skating it for 30 years and no one thought it was even possible.
In slip-ons, no less 💀
Slappy life
Dude even the line he did with the hippie jump through under the rail at the end was sick as fuck. But yea when the OGs are like holy fuck you know some shit went down! I still don't know how the fuck they got that picture I don't see anyone taking pics in the footy no flash nothing I wonder if he went back to get the photo or if someone was there I'm missing.
@@MycoMatty yeah that hippie jump was like.. wtf magic. and the slip ons.. lol
@@MycoMatty They take pictures during any try even if it's not a make. As long as they actually land the trick they can use whatever pictures
This was incredible. Skateboarding is incredible. That Ollie is one of the best things ever done in YEARS on a board.
Tfunks ollie is my trick of the year
Oh Yeah!!! Last year was sick…..NBD switch hard down a huge historic set. This year….a NBD death deifying Ollie/air at a historical and iconic spot. T-Funk deserves this year’s cheque!!! 💥🔥
agreed. just a simple ollie is so beautiful
Kids want to learn all these tricks. Then years later realize the basics... are the fucking best. Always. Go fast. Gofrontside.. fuck yes
Do more iconic spot documentaries! This was sick.
Need a Hubba Hideout one!
@@thomasrainbow and Wallenberg
BRUTALTruth has done one on both those spots and others like Hollywood 16 , Carlsbad gap , el Toro Most of the legendary spots. Check it out
Cardiel talking about getting one upped by Phil several times at different spots makes me nostalgic. Skating is so clean and corporate now and sure there’s competitions like SLS where skaters are obviously competitive…. But dudes one upping each other at street spots it’s awesome. Just makes me feel like a kid again getting home from school and rushing to by best friends house. YES he got the new 411 in the mail, time to hit it! Seeing what pros did what new crazy shit at our local spots and then going to skate all night trying to one up each other. Fuck man I’m gonna cry. All hail Cardiel for that trip down memory lane
Loved the words.. 🖤philshao&ericjforever🖤
Visited SF two years ago, flight landed late, looked out my hotel window in the morning and realized I was staying right above the banks. Gnarly spot without knowing about the drop, absolutely insane once you realize how high the drop off the other side is.
same here! I wonder how many people recognized the hotel partially because of the spot, it's got to be more than two!
Happened to me except my hotel had the Cardiel rail before it was taken out
I went to sf in 96 and went to the banks and also hubba and emb and pier 7. As a skate rat from Virginia, it was so cool . I met Karl Watson at pier 7 and he was so nice and approachable and just cool. the drop on hubba up top on the edge was similar
@northCALIFA Was just about to say 2 of the most iconic Frisco spots have/had a crazy ass drop on the other side!!!!!!
@@Esmith5488 same! I took a photo of the rail and some guy came up to me and asked if I knew what had happened on it. I regret not visiting the banks when we were there.
The long bench ollie was so beautiful, brought a tear to my eye
I read this as "long beach ollie" lol
This was all pure art. Seeing Tristan so in the zone at full speed and completely committed is so fucking inspiring.
Been cool if they had a radar to see how fast he was booking
full double arm pump pushing is the shit
Seeing Phil Shao and Phelper again now that I'm older hits a certain level of nostalgia and beauty. RIP

Gonz and the puppet just made my day 🥰
the ending of mark, makes me feel so happy hearing this man speak
Only seeing the Pat Duffy massive Ollie onto the street for the 1st time
Jaw dropping 👏👏👏👏
I love everything about this! More Thrasher docs please!
That run by Tristan Funkhouser had my jaw drop, so sick.
We need more of these spot history documentaries
This needs to be a series because the style, format, paying homage to the evolution of skateboarding, those who have come first, up to current day, appreciation of architecture and human personalities. That Mark puppet outro was THE BEST! *(Btw I liked that sneaky little detail that Mark snuck that idea into Duffy's Head 🗣️ by how he brought up that Gap. Mark was a motivational genius. Because it definitely hyped Duffy up to do something he's never done. And that, to this day, is a big ass tricky looking Gap.)
Nicely done! Great documentary. Phil Shao - a legend.. miss you my dear friend
🖤PHILSHAOANDERICJFOREVER🖤
That T Funk Ollie will forever be remembered!!! Aside from that All the sick shit that went down at this spot is crazy
I remember seeing t-funk when I was 10 yrs old, I didn't even skate, I used to ride my longboard. It was seeing him doing some front side overcrook in my local plaza that inspired me to start skating. 5 years later, I got to a thrasher video where I saw him skating with Wes Kreamer close to where I live, and not long after that I bought T-funk's pro model with all of my saving money.
Today my board is hanged on the wall and I keep on skating.
Big ups to all the dudes with the charmed sk8 life .love u dudes
This was so fucking dope!!! Please do more shit like this Thrasher!! There's plenty of famous spots to do!!!
Please do more of these!!!
And now i remember breana geering doin an impossible from bench into the transition.. just gnarly
Sick to see Phil Shao footy in here. Always skate at his memorial park in RWC but dont get to see a lot of footage of him. I really enjoy these kind of skate history videos. Hope to see more

One of my favorite storys, amazing skaters for a amazingly sketchy spot.
This is unbelievable history. I love to see it.
This made me miss On Videos.
Please more videos like this
This spot was in the first Skate video I ever saw, "Santa Cruz - Streets on Fire"..
Always nice to hear history of these classic spots..
Mark with the puppet at the end....what a fuckin rad vid...
Got to SF in 1989. What a spot! Incredible footage. And Arco was always such a gent. Great guy.
I think seeing the gap over the ledge and T-Funk ollie it blew my mind the most. What a gnarly fucking spot. So glad Tristan made it into this doc. Very much deserved. Wouldn't be surprised if he won SOTY.
This video gives me chills. Good job. STILL WATCHING !

I have not skated China Banks since 1987. i remember a couple of times the security guards would do the "slow roll" and of course we would see them and leave before making contact. We never skated it way more mellow than these guys ha ha. I remember I had to push with all my might just to get a little backside grind with a coper on that nasty brick.
Everything that was put down at china banks is legendary big ups to T-Funk as well. That big bench gap is unreal looking.
What a treat this was, thanks Thrasher!!! Rip Phil and Phelps. 🙏💪❤️

sir you are a steep bank Sensei♥️🙏
My favourite skate doc. Seen most. This one is the gnarliest.
This was amazing…gave me flashbacks to spending 5 hours there tryna carve the little bench and just getting humbled
This is actually incredibly edited. The snippets of one word comments by some of the pros throwing back to the current subject must have been really intricate to comb through and find. Great stuff.
T-funk funked it up
Best doc I've seen in years and it was free !
Phil Shao Forever. Never forget, always remember. Congrats Schmitty. Skateboarding history! Stoked on this🔥🔥🔥🔥
Next Fort Miley, Marble brown benches, Benecia banks. Do those spots still exist.... (???) SF has so many iconic spots. My guess is Emb, hubba hideout, pier, Wallenberg are covered already.
Bring back those red hooded sweaters 🔥
GOOD FUCKING CALL.. Benciahhhh!!!! Shoutout Mike and Jason Swartz.. the best those hips ever saw... 180 $tale to switch slappy grinds on the curb... #mikelegend

Thanks dude, cant wait for the next project, already been archiving...
Got to give praise the decication on archiving all theses vids and keeping the history of a spot like that. Dig that shit. gg
Mark with the hand puppet at the end 🤣
I have a board signed by Phil Shao, Dan Drehobl, and Tim McKinney from a Think demo back in the 90's. They had one stacked ass team for real.
PHILSHAOFOREVER 🖤!! SHOUTOUT
@@timmckenney9012 Holy shit Brother thanks for the reply. It was in Charlotte NC, at the big shitty city park that had metal ramps. Phil cut his finger pretty good on the metal half pipe. You were hucking a massive alley- oop transfer from a quarter pipe to bank. Those were the good ol days.

Tristen killed it! That Ollie was sooooooo good. Damn. That’s skate history.
Do this for ALL the famous spots holy moly this is great.
Legendary.
I first skated the China Banks in the summer of 1987. 🛹
Dang, on those big 80s wheels?
T-funk is the best out there right now. That cover is legendary.
This is so rad
That was sick.
So many legends and future legends in this video
Ibaseta, Cardiel, Stranger, Arco...so entertaining!
The editing is just as epic as the skating. Well done.
Dude!! Any interview with Julien & Cards is epic...

@@TalkinSchmit Brutha, I've been meaning to text you how awesome of a job you did with this project. Amazing. Skateboarding is the most beautiful thing ever.
Loved this little slice of history.
Feels seeing Jake in a thrasher vid.

More of spot history like this please!!!
Definitely need more spot docs, so rad
Mark Gonzales is the yoda of skating for sure…such a chill dude. I’m old now, but I remember Satva in “Welcome to Hell” that scene was classic. Trilogy was a game changer back then too.
I almost had my board stolen at China Banks circa '89; they followed us up from EMB. I don't think people realize how hostile that spot is. Any and every trick there deserves adulation. So many legends in this one. Took me back to my youth. And Gonz at the end was the cherry on top. This was exceptional. My favorite video of '22 👏👏👍👍🍻
Yup, it's like what Ron Allen sez about having someone "running perimeter" when you're out in the wild sometimes
An epic 40 year history of a legendary SF spot! And a perfect document to the never ending progression of skateboarding. Fucking incredible!!
Thank you!
So stoked to see Cardiel!
Need more of these on famous spots
Man going to China banks back in the 90’s was fun af got to see people get slammed on it. To see the stuff going down now days is amazing.
Wow. I never realized that was a bridge with that height. Much more respect.
Same, bro’; gotta remember not to walk under there next time I’m in SF, hah!
I remember skating there in the mid to late 80’s. Such a fun spot!
More of these would be sick
This was seriously excellent man, y’all should do this with all the legendary spots. Could be an amazing series
Please it was actually so good
The fact y’all got Larry…heavy
I like this concept of highlighting a spot and the background of it
Even the simplest stuff is hard at China Banks . Kudos to anyone that lands anything there.
A testament to how seeing a spot in real life can humble you.
More of these docs and the My Wars
Solute! Beautiful people, sports, art, and beautiful bridge
Beautiful. Best skate documentary.
I had seen the clip then I had to take knee.. haha best comment ever!
This was weird, I was at the part where Rowan says "that was the year I was born" and I got an Instagram notification saying Rowan posted for the first time in a while. Tripped me out lol
I really enjoyed this film!
Wow the progression on that spot was second too none
I just knew this would awesome! Best thing about these old clips is you're literally watching THE guys that pushed the boundaries for all of us! Amen you gods 🙏
These are the sorts of vids that make Thrasher so pure and awesome. Great job, loved it.
This was great! More please
Protect Gonz FOREVER, that ending was amazing
Rowan’s Nollie heel is one of the best Nollie heels out there
Phil Shao was the man. RIP rollin forever 🪦

Great doc. Part of why SF was the Mecca. Glad it hasn’t changed much. Too many classic spots weren’t so fortunate.

love these videos. wish I could have seen mark's reaction to t-funk tho lol
20:54 - That Tristan Funkhouser line is amazing... all of that in one line??? 🤯🔨
Classic Spots and My War are my favourite Thrasher Vids, I could watch 3+ hours of dudes talking makes and bails.
More of these please. Fantastic.
Just today I found out about T-Funk, holy crap does he literally rip. He seems to have the essence of 80/90's skating in his 2022 blood. Can't wait to see what he has cooking.
