The Search For Steve Rocco, OG Skater & Founder of World Industries
If you know Jenkem, you know this is about as close to a magnum opus interview as there ever was. Steve, along with being a pioneer of 70s, 80s and early 90s skateboarding, owned World Industries, and spearheaded the street skating movement alongside some of the best skaters around at the time. After many years we were finally able to get Steve in on an interview and damn, this feels good to write. Raise a glass, 'cause we did it, baby.

Hotdogs, Beer and Treflips: The 999 Challenge
zhlédnutí 36KPřed 19 hodinami
Skateboarding has always been one big sausage fest. So, we figured why not actually throw one? Enter the 999 challenge. What ensued was one of skateboarding’s most glorious sporting events. No ramps, no pros, no big shoe sponsors, just a hot grill, a cooler full of ice, and straight flat ground tricks. The boys were quickly separated from the men as our twisted idea became a reality. Filmed and...
Fred Gall & The Origins of One of New Jersey's Longest Standing Board Brands

We met up with Fred Gall, Lou & Donny Binaco to discuss Metal, a skate brand they started in 1994 out of New Jersey that's still running today. Birthed from one too many acid trips, late night skate sessions, and a desire to start a no frills, evil skate company out of the East Coast, Metal is a part of skateboarding history often forgotten. Our series “Locals” focuses on the often overlooked characters that surround skateboarding - the eccentrics, weirdos and local legends who are staples in the community for reasons outside of having a great back tail. It’s the people with no sponsors to answer to and no paychecks to lose. The people who skate for the love and have a routine unique to themselves. Filmed by: Ian Michna (instagram....

Hardcore and skateboarding have a lot in common. Both look stupid as hell to outside viewers, piss off old people and leave you sore in the morning. Well, Rapid Skateshop and other skate shops in the area orchestrated a HC fest and a skate demo into one. The entire Anderson family was in attendance (no, not Pamela, I mean Mike and Jake), as well as Mike’s truck, which was transformed into the s...

Recently dropping a seven-minute part in Primitive’s AM video and getting comfortable in LA, Kyonosuke is on his way to become one of the greats. If you search for Florida Man headlines in the world of skateboarding you’ll return with one thing. Swampfest. Yeah, we know you’ve probably seen the footage already. Quick news flash, we’re late, but hell, we didn’t even know we were going to go. We considered letting our footage dump lay to rest, especially since this is mainly a BMX event, but when you see the amalgamation of a redneck civil...

Disgraceful who gets Pro these days...
This makes me so happy.
Love the longer form edit!
Have you ever thought about how skating is like the cordiceps fungi that infects the ants to guide their behavior in order to exist, I feel like skateboarding does the same to us, once we start building it spreads.
that was awesome. thank you for being persistent
Hi Steve ✌️
Ian is the SHIT BALLS AND TITS!! congrats on the interview you deserve it man. Love the content
Epic interview, love seeing Rodney get so much shine, and Rocco's legacy deserves this.
I still remember when my buddy almost fought him at LES. Glad that didnt happen
Wooooow...❤❤❤ you are the man 😂 Rocco is the king, he gave kids the opportunity to build a whole new universe
this video was fucking good
Steve tried to give you 100k and you threw it away
Classic Rocco. Totally unapologetic, twisting the story so he is the protagonist and thanking Rick for making him rich, claiming he made skateboarding better, blah blah. Do a kickflip steve, or get out.
What a rad little doco
Happy pride month Steve ... ur talking a lil too much about mr mullen ;) im so for it !!! god bless <3
So much less tense and more wholesome than I expected. I learned some stuff, thanks!
Once when I was like 22 my roommate and I found a lost checkbook at a bus stop. There was a page in Big Brother that said "send us money to feed Mike Carroll's dog" or something like that. We wrote a fake check for like $500 for Mike Carroll's dog and sent it to the magazine and a few weeks later I answered the phone and it was Steve Rocco wanting to talk to us. They tried to cash the check and it bounced. This was probably like 1993. Steve wasn't mad at us, he just wanted to ask us about it. Not sure how he found us.
Silly satanists, tricks are for young men.
No way. I wasn't expecting to hear The Nils at the beginning. Montreal's finest
This gave me butterflies more than any skate video that came out in the last 10 years... cheers 😅🤟🍻
I still have that Starting Point trick tips video. one with him and Willy Santos
Cool interview. My first real skateboard was a battle board in probably 97. It was vareflwx from Walmart before that
Great job
Adjust your tracking lol, damn I feel old.. Also, when you're done, don't forget to "be kind -- rewind"
Amazing episode
The world industries teams were in my town doing a demo for the skateboard shop I was sponsored by. It was in my 16th birthday in 1996. After the demo the whole team came to my house for my birthday party. And we all skated my half pipe. My mom’s boyfriend at the time went to the ferry to pick up Steve Rocco because he was out golfing with Collin Mccay that day. It was an epic birthday party. I had the whole team at my house Steve Rocco, Cain Gail, Chris markovich, quy nwen. I wonder if any of them remember the part. They even gave me a board they all signed. And I ended up skati g it. lol
Ian this is one of the most beautiful pieces on skateboarding history I've ever seen. Jenkem is permanent. Jenkem is here to stay. Jenkem is skateboarding.
Ian, Thanks for being persistent. Steve, Thanks for the interview 🙏.
Love the soundtrack that he uses for his shows! Oscar Peterson trio
I think that Jenkem plays one of the most important roles in skateboarding today. From stuff like the 999 challenge to polished pieces like this, Jenkem feels open minded, yet gives unique perspectives. I löve it.
this was awesome, thank you.
21:16 that Toy Machine video didn't do that spot justice when Elissa ollied that thing. The angle made it look small. I totally thought I could do it. Now I think at my best I could have done it but would have pussed out even trying. thing looks skectchy af.
our hero's are getting old, boys. let's appreciate them while we still can, thanks to ian and the whole jenkem team for this truly beautiful piece on a skateboarding pioneer. Thanks, to rocco, rodney and everyone one else who created this wonderful world we live in.
Love this. Tip of the hat to whoever made it, some great moments.
"Nah man that just feels kind kookie.." What does that mean "kookie"? Jenkem just posted an interview with a walking talking one. (Wild)
this is the most skateboardingist skateboarding video I have seen in a long time. This is dope.
criminally underrated. love myles' skating
now all i can think when i see rocco is him paying henry sanchez off after banging his gf haha
i wish rocco would dig up all sma graphics and reissue them....jesse martinez, rocco,....santa cruz did the natas reissue but wasnt same
Rodney Mullen was the true MVP for sending that email and basically sealing the deal.
A y o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o 👹
Respect. There is no tarnished record. Haters have to hate. Skaters gotta skate.
Awesome interview, more of this please!
Guest appearance by terry B!
He had that shit on lock when he got there he knew he was gonna win.
Rip Juice Wrld he would’ve fucked w this
