I don’t know why, but it’s just so funny hearing this shit being spoke about so eloquently 😂
I found it genuinely off-putting to the point I really didn’t want to watch the whole thing. The videography is great but the script sounds corny as hell to me, and is only made worse with that vocal style. I think this could honestly use better writing and narration. “Confused biologists and anthropologists alike…” is one of silliest descriptions of street skating I’ve ever heard and sounds so self-entitled. Like they’re some rare wonder of the world. They aren’t studying modern skateboarding because that has nothing to do with their field of expertise lmao. You would never find either of those professions to say street skating is confusing. How does anyone take this seriously from that line alone?!
@@mclarensaleenf7 You're not supposed to take it seriously, that's the joke :) It's intended to be the silliest description of street skating possible, and pokes fun at the idea of pretentiously over intellectualizing what skateboarders do.
Deadass tho let me get my masters in skateboarding and make my dad proud finally
Its all on point tho
Aye that accent is 🔥 too! Although is it a robot or is it the voice of an authentic Skateboarder? Because real people need opertunities.
Whoever was in charge of the sound design you killed it
Yeah this is incredible work
very true
You mean gaterbusket? At least mention the name of the artist.
@@MrBlazingVortex "whoever" implies he didn't know the name, relax dude.
@@ChristopherTalke I get that, the name appears in the credits however. 😉
despite not being a skater himself, my dad was a big supporter of my street skating. on the weekends growing up, he'd drive us around my hometown looking for spots everywhere (courthouses, schools, grocery stores, you name it). "lurking" for spots with my dad and him filming are some of my favorite memories! he sees spots when he's on vacation and send them to me. he has the skater's eye now!
you have a greatest papa
That is beautiful... Tell your dad he's a pretty rad dude :)
you have blessed him with the curse.
your dad is a legend!
W father
It’s 3024, the world is recovering after a nuclear war. A little girl finds a skateboard, she asks her AI-embedded chip “What is street skateboarding” This would come up.
You have explained pretty much exactly the vibe I was feeling
4:45 I legit spit my beer out as an over 30 curb, ermm I mean "slappy" skater. LMAO!
Yeah, but that's bs for pros. Sheckler is 34 now & going bigger than even he was 20. Jaws is also in that realm of not slowing down, also 34 years old (check out his latest vid for Happy Medium just posted a few days ago)And there's others still shredding in mid/late 30's.
@@S_raB both jaws and sheckler have slowed down tremendously, especially jaws lol he's skating gaps literally 1 third of the size of his old videos in his latest happy medium part. NOTHING wrong with that btw, but we can't just pretend they haven't slowed down and scaled down their tricks over the years. Sheckler doesn't even film full parts anymore, he just showed up a few times a year to do something gnarly and then goes back to chilling
obviously it's going to be different for pros@@S_raB
I think she did a little too much research for a dig like that lmao
I saw the curb and smiled(skater over 30 who only skates curbs), then when it said "for skaters over 30" I lost my shit! LOL!
Becoming a skater and suddenly seeing spots everywhere where you didn't before is like when you learn a new word and suddenly hear it all the time. It was always there, you just didn't know it yet.
I’m thirdy eight and still peeping spots, counting stairs, observing ground conditions etc haha. I’m pretty sure I’m hooked for life.
it's like putting on glasses for first time.
This is also how it is when you learn what "car dependency" is
This is beautiful, dare I say it brought a few tears to my eyes just thinking about how lucky we as skaters are to see the world in this way.
Very true i had a few tears myself listing...
YOOOO you inspire me to get better and flow better at Session! (because I can't do it irl..) but like what this video is about, I like problem solving and the creative expression that goes in spots and skateboarding! that's why I wanted to at least do it virtually haha!
I’ve never cried before
yeah legit definitely evokes some emotions
for real though. I'll skate until my legs wont let me.
When she said "distinguished by its stubby and dwarfish presence," I felt that.
😭😭
idk why but i felt so warm and nostalgic watching this. i imagine this is what it would be like to be an elephant or something while watching a Planet Earth documentary.
well done . been skating since 82 and never heard anyone speak on our thing like this - kudos. Once a skater develops the eye for spots it never goes away , it lasts forever - you'll be 72 tooting down the street with your walker and see a nice new marble ledge and think " dammmmn that's sick " and imagine all the tricks you would have done on it 50 years ago ;)
tesla walking frames will have shralp mode.
facts. I've been skating since 98 and slowed down and moved mostly to a longboard but still see spots everywhere to this day
every skater should watch this video
heck a lot of non-skaters should watch this
This!
every civil engineer should at least learn to ollie, then watch this.
This just reminded me why I fell in love with thrashing.
And to hit the streets more
*every normie should watch this video. Great way to explain our world to them!
I love the angle of this documentary. It’s a 3rd person perspective similarity to a nat geo doc about an indigenous tribe and their rituals or the grazing habits of zebra. It’s brilliant!
I don’t know why but this feels like a Wes Anderson film and I’m absolutely here for it
Lots of still shots! Very nice!
comparing skateparks to strict classrooms rather than playgrounds was spot on!! that's exactly why we skate in the streets. there's no room for creativity at skateparks. street spots are ephemeral. they're random. they're exciting. they could be there one day & gone the next, or they could last 30 years and end up being demolished to make way for newer buildings and plazas. you could plan a trick at a specific spot for 5 years, practice it relentlessly, then when you go to try it you find the spot has knobs on it or it's just straight up been removed entirely.
The bit around 9:00 that talks about an awakening is very true. I can't help but think I will never stop seeing urban spaces as a bmxer. It never goes away, like an awakening.
Bloody brilliant. Cheers to the cheekyness!
Alongside ledges, rails, banks and so on I’d add flat. Sometimes perfect flat can be a spot, especially for freestylers. Skateboarding is having a dialogue with a space, treating it not only functionally, but really playing with it, commenting, describing, defining, it creates a language. Skateboarders accepted the fact that architecture is nature and want to use the space, it’s for everybody, it’s common.
This is the next step evolution of sk8ing content creation on youtube. I sing your praises at the clouds and people I know. Proud of you peoples.
From the skate rat perspective it makes you laugh with love. From everyone else's perspective it makes skateboarding understood in such a nice, clean and respectful way. Sir Daniel Paese you are a genuine genious!
This is the essence of Skateboarding.
Damn, why did this make me emotional. Being able to look at the world in a new way and find your ideal spot in the most run down or mundane setting truly is a beautiful ability
Love that it’s in Chicago, we get overlooked so much!!
They must Midwest based because there were a few KC spots too
This was like a nat geo documentary on wild skaters in their habitat and i love it!
Dope…. Clicked on this but had no idea it was gonna be all Chicago spots too
So grateful for the support, Place!
This is an absolutely amazing piece... congrats! I have been skateboarding for 34 years, and this articulated so many feelings I've had about it in both a concise yet poetic way. Well done!
Clever, funny, great skateboarding, beautifully shot with a chilled out nostaligic vibe. This is really amazing work. More please!
Thank You Daniel, people are loving this!
My local skate park got trashed lol
Phenomenal piece. I never thought someone would be able to truly explain the value, ethos and intricacies of street skating. You’ve done the world a service.
As an aging street skater who now works in skateparks, I’d love to see your lens on the evolution of skateparks (and why we need them in the first place). Thankfully these days skateparks are being designed by and with skaters, with the goal of creating a legal, accessible and proper skate space that inspires creativity in the long run. A lot of people (59M) Americans don’t have a legally accessible or good place to skate, and exploring the streets (while pure, amazing and a right of passage) might feel out of reach, especially for beginners or folks seen/feeling as non-traditional skaters. But all skaters should certainly explore the natural, even if they get kicked out. (Within reason, though elevated risk for some).
Your ability to discern important bits and dissect the value of these features and spaces is a gift, and I think we all appreciate you putting your heart and expertise into this piece! Thanks for doing what you do.
This approach -one that mimics a nature documentary. Is GENIUS! It's such an effective way to convey. Not just to skaters in a sarcastic manner but convey to non skaters & really show them the way of viewing the world and how one can interact, connect, and express through out it. In all it's many stages and forms. You start to see beauty and creativity even in the most obscure things. My brain can't ever not see the world in this manner. Once you embrace it and live it for many years it becomes engrained into you.
I cried at the end. ❤
masterpiece
Beautiful video. Thank you for painting skating in the light of art and self expression rather than mindless property destruction.
This reminds me so much of a short film about graffiti called "The Subconscious Art of Graffiti Removal." Same exact tongue in cheek style of mockumentary. Love this stuff.
I’m a Bmx rider, street riding is just a whole different experience than park or or trails whatever. The act of hopping on your ride with the homies and scouring a city or traveling to or THROUGH another one, and finding new spots is euphoric within itself before even putting pegs onto anything. The brain asking for creativity with testing the skills that you have practiced for months or years to put together a trick or like that you want. Then the best part, if you get bored, you pick up and push to the next one. I absolutely love it and it’s my favorite feeling in the world.
When I first got a car, whenever I had free time and wasn’t with my friends, I was driving around my area finding spots. Everything is kind of spread out where I lived, but I could still give a tour that would keep you in spots for a few weeks. Crusty to clean, packed to lean.
I never thought of street skating and spot hunting as grounded in exploration, but yeah, 100% they are. Kinda mind blown.
just stumbled on this. Incredibly well done.
4:50 180 nose grinded that hubba when I was a kid. It was the one on the opposite side tho. We used to skate the majority of these spots in this video. Every Saturday and Sunday we’d go downtown. 2:38 was such a sick spot but it was further up north so we didn’t go there often since we were too young to drive. It’s right down the street from Wilson skatepark and definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area
I used to go skate that magnet school on weekends. So much to do. The parking garage had excellently smooth yellow parking curbs and short manny pads.
@@andycarey8234 they also had a barrier type red rail that you could place on the grass off to the side of those ledges, the very top level of those steps would be the runway, you’d Ollie off the edge, grind the rail over the grass and land on the sidewalk about 6-7ft past the grass. You couldn’t see that area when they showed the spot in this video tho. For such a dope spot I wish you’d see more footage there. Also there are so many cool wavy ledge spots around the city, I’d love to see some guys that are really good go have a session on them. I bet they could come up with sole dope grinds/slides. One thing I wish was around when we were kids was those ledges on Division that are shaped like stars ⭐️. I’ve seen some footage here and there of people skating them, galling over the top of the star and landing in a grind on the opposite side.
This is without any doubts the best piece of skateboarding-related content I've ever came across. Bravo.
What a delightful video. I'm 37 and havn't skateboarded in over a decade, but I still often see the outside world in terms of skate spots. I'll see a perfect gap somewhere and remember how much god damn fun my friends and I were having back then. Thanks for making this.
This made me love skateboarding even more.
Damn this is done in such a fun way! Love all the footage, the wobbly background behind text slides to keep them from slowing the tempo, the Portal like flat microphone voice. And the low key stabs and lingo that take it form a modernized version of a dry 80-90s VHS teaching tape to a video that was made by people who actually love skating
Thank you Daniel for this film.
It motivated to grab my board again and skate in my 40s :)
I learned alot about myself here today. Thank you
As a behavior technician and skater, this makes my heart happy.
I didn't expect this to make me cry but it did. Learning to skate taught me to see the world as new again.
Thank you for showcasing out beautiful city in this fantastic video. WINDY CITYYYY!
I REALLY really love this video style. I could literally watch thousands of these about any topic and never get bored of it. Subscribed!
we love Max and Avery. Loved this
The music and narration really emphasized skateboardings creativity and beauty when you saw the skateboarders skating the spots. Really moving piece!
Dare I say, this is the most unique piece of research and art compiled.
An absolute delight!
This is a really good work. I love it and I think not only skaters but also people who want to understand skateboarding should watch this. Thank you Place🙏🏻
Sending this to everyone i know. Pure gold, thank you for this!
Never thought I'd hear skateboarding in this manner but absolutely love the video. Keep killing it!
As a skater since I was a child I would honestly admit whoever put this together hit the mark 100% this is pure perfection. Every thing is described exactly the way skateboarder’s see it. It’s as if you were in our minds 😭
Absolutely stunning piece of work that puts something intangible into words 💖
Thank you for making this, it's wonderful!
The way they described a pole jam was actually so beautiful I almost shed a tear
this is probably one of the prettiest videos I've seen on this platform, so gorgeous. The visuals are incredible, the music is so soothing, the voicing is perfect for this. Lovely video!
I truly love this video.
I couldn't stop laughing and giggling the whole way through. Very well done, I'll definitely be sharing this.
i couldnt have said this better myself and this really made me want to go skate
I think what got me the most was the last few lines associating skateboarding with art. The need to push beyond the box to express one’s innovation and ability to “solve” problems. In all my years of skating and art it’s always what interest me. The ability to solve problems is to me one of the greatest skills for a skater. Thank you for making this video, I really enjoyed it.
one of the best pieces I've seen in a while! Wow!
as a parkourist, so much of this is transferrable to our sport, this video is genuinely beautiful and perfectly captures what I find so amazing about my sport, despite being intended for a different audience, great job
Thank you so much for this! Amazing description of why street skating is so important 💪💪💪
This is a masterclass on street skating. I love it ❤
amazing video, props to everyone involved and thank you place for putting it out!
Nice piece. I love the manner in which everything is explained and also the images that go along with it all.
This is amazing. Thank you so much for your efforts. Maybe even brought a tear to my eye.
Masterpiece.
absolutely phenomenal. extremely high quality and produced in a manner that i truly think anyone can enjoy!
this is pushing the envelope of skateboard media, and i adore it!
I will say, I've never really had an interest in skating, yet I was enthralled throughout this whole video
Wasnt sure what to expect when this popped into my feed, but that was wonderful. Thank you! ✊🏾💯🔥🎯💪🏽
awesome to see so many chicago spots.
All my old favorite spots ❤ sick video!!
Absolutely perfect.
This was great, a piece of art. Thank you!
So glad to see more research films on skateboarding being released!
Thank you for this video which reminds me off how thankful i am for having skateboarding in my life
This made me extremely happy, thank you for making this!
Sooooooo beautifully done! So on point!! Bravo!! 👏🏼
I remember the first time I went to a ramp the city had built in a park that 12 years earlier I had been chased out of by the police for grinding curbs. There was a grom there younger than my trucks. I told him, "Our people were once outlaws."
Love this. Thank You for producing this.
This video is a masterpiece, a true inspiration to continue spreading skateboarding! Thank you
Awesome documentary!
I’ve been searching out spots for 35+ years. Coast to coast.
Smolik to Kalis.
Dallas represent !!!
Everyone must see this! Beautiful and thought provoking
beautiful piece! Love seeing this practice spoken about so thoughtfully
This is absolutely amazing work…
hits home i've skated on almost all of the cement beautifully shot in this video. this is so unique and well done! love it gonna share it.
Loved this so much ❤️
Well done Daniel. Excellent treatment. Much enjoyed, thank you.
This was fantastic, and so perfectly captures what i love about skating.
Beautiful analysis of how skaters view the world from their eyes.🖤
This was amazing. Thank you
That bump with the three stair to the left of it looks awesome
man this was so epic. perfectly executed
What a gorgeous video. Thanks Danial Paese.
This was beautiful! Thanks for making this!
Thank you, this is beautiful.
Brilliant! I love how many KC spots made it in.
Dude same that made me hyped as a Kansas local
This is so relatable! WOW! The video shows how we think and its great to see the world in a different way. Crazy good! I love searching for new spots! It feels like i am a teen again with my 37 years.
