- In this video we will be taking a look at the Unifi 6 Lite VS the Unifi 6 LR. I will be doing speed test and iPerf test when the access points are on auto then we will set the 5gz band to channel width of HE80 and do the test over.
My upload and download speed is 1gb down and 1gb up. I will be using my iPhone 11 to run these test.

+1 for comparison testing in the same format of the nanoHD vs U6LR as a good 4x4 MU-MIMO comparison of the WiFi 5 vs WiFi 6 WAPs! Would be interesting to see a sustained iPERF on both to see which can hold the most throughput during large file transfers, etc. Thanks for producing this latest UWAP-6 tests for us... very helpful!

Thanks for the comparison, I have both AP’s and was trying to workout objectively which was better to use where. This is helpful, being a relative noob I didn’t know the HE80 setting either. Any other tweaks you recommend? Thanks!
Great comparison. nano HD vs LR 6 would indeed be a great comparison. That's what I'm waiting for to check if I should replace my nano HD

Yup most likely. I was going to take it outside but its pretty cold today. I doubt the U6 Lite would really reach to far outdoor
Hey Hi, thanks for your video, informative. Could I ask a quick favor, I’d like to know the measurements of the mount bracket in millimeters, In other words the distance between the holes? Hope that doesn’t cause to much trouble.
Would the HE160 channel make much of a difference? How come you didn’t test it?
I ordered a 6 LR few days ago but its on backorder. I currently have a nanoHD and Flex HD. Hoping to get little more speed with Wifi 6. Best I've seen on the nanoHD was 720 Mbps with my Dell laptop.
The U6-LR looks good. I have a double storey home in Sydney, Australia. I couldn't justify the over $300 AUD price for the U6-LR. So I went with the U6-Lite ($150 - $170 AUD) downstairs. It replaced an AC-PRO Gen 2. I have a AC-LR to cover the upstairs.

Can you describe your floor plan better and the position on the floor plan where you took the tests?
I have 3 level home 60' by 32' and trying to decide between 2 LRs on third level ceiling or 4 Lites with 2 Lites on the 3rd level ceiling and 2 Lites on the 1st level ceiling. for both I have a UDM-US that be almost dead center on the 2nd level. With the 4 Lites, I would likely need to disable 2G on two of them. Thanks.
Can you cover one house with an LR if you walk mount it in the centre of the house?

was looking to get the U6 Lite, but noticed it was only 2x2, which I do prefer it to be 4x4 [ Im using, current both Asus ax88u and Unified Dream Machine , yep that all in one pill ]
As ive responded in on of the replies down below, I do think it might be beneficial to do some light video editing during the test :
- 01 x device for capturing the particular room/ location you're testing [ pan and video what's within the room etc]
- 01x device for actual wifi 6 test
- test the difference apart from HE80 & 160, would be to have a testing of wifi radio and getting the best optimal results
a real world test might involve having multiple devices in different locations using Zoom and streaming 4k whilst sharing the desktop that's playing the content, the wifi and bandwidth will surely be pushed to the extreme.
A lot of the online you tubers, glossed over the testing of U6 Lite and barely anything "real life"
And there's not much U6 LR , which couple came up weird or odd.
Crosstalk Solution had the closet I'd recommend for testing reference and how to visual let viewers know where and what was being test
nonetheless thumbs up for such fairly detailed testing, appreciated as , again there's not a lot of U6 Lite vs LR comparison, even when there is, is really half effort

Hey the testing was all done in my house. First my office. Then the main floor and then the basement. I would have attached a drawing but i currently don't have one of my home
@@MactelecomNetworks No problems, its meant for future viewers who need some concrete visual interpretation. As i can listen to learn, but visually more easier for me to gauge how well it will be better suited.
E.g a mini heat map, to indicate where the testing and how far away the AP is from the spot , what kind of wall its trying to penetrate the signal.
BTW would you. be able to test using 160 Mhz ? and throw in some minimum setup using UDM pro + PoE Injector +
Wonder if the average reading for [ Auto ] vs [ manual channel selection ] vs [ 160mhz] would vary wildly
Do believe some of the viewers here might not have the funds or the means to get too complicated setups, the testing would even out the guessing game

Hey Cody great video! Not sure if you covered this but how do you make sure your iPhone stays locked onto that specific AP when you move to the different levels of your house? Do you just turn the other ones off?

@@MactelecomNetworks Gotcha makes sense! Would be great if UI implemented a feature that allowed you to lock devices into a specific AP instead of having to play around the BSS transition settings and potentially creating different SSIDs. So much work.
Question - why didn’t you do a series of tests with the U6LR in HE160? Or was that not available in firmware at the time of this video? How about a revisit?
It was avaiable it just causing a lot of interference especially in a home with multiple APs

For unknown reasons, U6 Lites cost only slightly more than half of a U6 LR where I shop here in AU. My house would be covered by a single, centrally mounted LR but would I get better theoretical throughout, range etc from 2 U6 Lites mounted at either end of the house?

Who can tell me, what the diff via Unifi and Edgerouter?
Something is wrong with your upload test. I don't see this problem with mine, the U6-LR upload speed is virtually identical to the download speed. Just ordered another U6-LR to replace a nanoHD.
More tests with multiple concurrent users & APs, which is where WiFi6 performs better than 5. Otherwise it's really just slight differences in newer radios and CPUs and firmware. WiFi6E will change things up quite a bit over all, but base WiFi6 is more about better wifi density - single AP and Single Client won't expose much of a difference.
You can also use the unifi network app at least on Android to measure ap to client speed. Not sure if the iOS app has the same functionality.

Maybe I missed it, is this the 5Ghz radio for the tests or was 2.4 also turned on? I believe the LR has WiFi 6 2.4Ghz radios but the lite just has n/WiFi 4.

Holy crap, I always thought the LR was like just the tiniest bit better but actually it’s far better for reaching longer range devices.

Thanks for the video, but it does not help me much. My property is all on one level and it would be nice to see the horizontal range of the U6 Lite through some walls and in the open. I am thinking of getting a few of these.
The test were done through walls. I was two floors away from the access points when i was in the basement. I do not really have big open areas in my home
Quick suggestion to make your videos better. It's really hard to see your graphs because they are so small compared to the video size. I'd suggest zooming into them and when you show the first one, quickly point out which columns are which (even though it's in the key) to keep your viewers from having to search for the key. Also, the video shots of some of the tests were fairly distorted.
Hey those are good suggestions. I’ll be changing how I do the speed comparison videos. When I’m away from the computer I’m using a gopro which doesn’t have the best quality.

How about a comparison between Zyxel NWA210AX and Unify U6 LR?
If they send me one sure. Its almost $500 Canadian
The Zyxel NWA210AX is $230 on Amazon US and $297 on Amazon Canada.
Hopefully, Zyxel will send you a demo unit to review, until then, check out "Network Advisor" and his review "Zyxel NWA210AX vs. Ubiquiti U6 LR Speed Test" uploaded on April 30, 2021. His tests showed the Zyxel outperforming the U6LR in the iPerf3 tests and mentioned U6LR's 1GB ethernet connection vs Zyxel's 2.5GB ethernet connection as one of the limiting factors with the Ubiquiti U6LR AP. Although the U6LR specs state 2.4Gbps on 5GHz and 600Mbps on 2.4GHz (aggregate of 3Gbps), it will never achieve >1GB throughput using a single 1GB ethernet connection to the outside world. What's your thoughts on this and/or maybe Ubiquiti is releasing a newer model that addresses this limitation.

What would be the difference on he 80 on the lite, and i saw there was a he 160 on the lr
Lite cant do 160, since its only 2x2
@@filippiasec i understand that , i mean , what would be the difference if you turned on the 160 on the lr vs the 80 on the lite. Thats what im asking , what can we expect if we do that test , because its a feature one has and the other one doesnt.
@@lonjick The one has likely only 2x2, so I wouldnt expect a lot of diffrence.
Please next time make the numbers and graphs bigger on minute 10:00 We here in developing countries use expensive limited data plan. So we watch at 360-480p resolution

even the latest wifi 6 and a $230 AP one can not get 1000mbps over wifi.
Most devices only support 2 spatial streams. That’s the real reason that WiFi speeds are still sub-gigabit.
This is the fault of the client iphone 11
Disappointingly slow. I’m getting 757Mb down 624Mb up on my standard ISP WiFi 6 router
Another guy who misses 2.4 ghz testing,which is extremly poor on the u6 lite.
All be doing another video with comparisons on a bunch of differnt wifi 6 access points I’ll be sure to show 2.4ghz
@@MactelecomNetworks Sure, please do that. There are reports on reddit on poor performence, yesterday I switched to LR due to that and will see how it goes, but first quick checks show it's better. I spent 3 weeks trying to solve this with their support, nothing so far.
The LR is definitely better watch out for the video should be out in a week or two just waiting on one ap

Same issue here. It’s past the return period for me, I think I’m better off selling it on ebay for a LR.
