- Here's AL's posthumous cameo in DEAD MEN DON'T WEAR PLAID (1982). This fun film noir spoof with Steve Martin uses clips from several classic films of the '40s and '50s. AL's scenes are from THIS GUN FOR HIRE (1942), which is probably his most-referenced role (eg LE SAMOURAI and TAXI DRIVER come to mind as further examples). Tough cookie. :-)

Wow, this had some major stars in it. What is really amazing that most of them were dead, and not one of them wore plaid.
Saw this first run in a theater. Had no idea what it was about. I remember the feeling when I realized what they were doing. Still one of my favorites!
The movie is not only a meticulously assembled homage to the great actors of the Golden Age and film noir, but with the completely crazy script it's also a reminiscence of the confusing plots of Raymond Chandler's novels, which even the directors of the 40s had no insight into.
This Hollywood anecdote became legendary: When Howard Hawks was filming "The Big Sleep" he asked Raymond Chandler who actually murdered the chauffeur, to which he simply replied: "I have no idea."
Still a hilarious, absurd comedy, especially if you know the original movies (even more so if you've read some of the novels).
1:52 is classic! The way Steve Martin 'dodges' the bullet! Pre-Matrix!
I very nearly peed my pants the first time I saw that...
Stephen Troup It still can bring me tears from laughter!
I died when I saw that ;D
The great Alan Ladd being the bad guy.
Clever editing, at that!
"Good, aren't they?... I guess to be a really good exterminator, you have to enjoy killing things?"
Hehehehe!
This makes me want cookies. 🍪
The face of an angel hiding the inner demon.
Everybody know the HBO series "Dream On"?
Do you have the excerpt that has Vincent Price? I would like to see that one.
Allan Ladd good looking❤
Sorry but steve martin ruined this movie,or at least should have acted more seriously, maybe the fault of the director.shame the person whom created this technology died shortly after the movie as she patented the rights and no more can be done, what a shame☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️
What A Goofy Movie but I loved it.
