  • In this charming western from 1958, AL plays a widower who lost his home and wife in the civil war. He is looking for a doctor to cure his son (played by AL's son David), who is mute since that shock. A spinster (played by Olivia de Havilland) takes them in, and they in turn help her defend her farm against sheep herders who are trying to run her off her land.
Since the story does not lend itself well to clips (and because my copy of the film is not very good), I did a slide show for this one. The music is from the beautiful original soundtrack by Jerome Moross. It is one of my favorite film scores. The first track is the "Main Title Theme", the second is called "The Town". The first part shows stills for the film, the second publicity portraits and candids.
No copyright abuse intended, but if the owners mind, the video will be deleted, of course.

I am a film buff, I don’t know how this one pass me by. My childhood friend from Guyana send this one to me.That’s why I will always remain a film enthusiast.

I loved this film and the score by Jerome Moross. I believe the movie The Big Country was done in the same year 1958. Both scores were done by this wonderful composer . I frankly don't think he got all the credit he deserved .

I just bought the OST from Screen Classics--the CD sounds very good, monaural but high fidelity (more hi fi than is evident in this video).

Sure, the quality is reduced here (when I uploaded this perhaps even more than currently).
