    My mom went to 6 different doctors for a jaw pain problem.
    They recommend maybe she needs a tooth procedure.
    They removed a tooth but the pain persisted.
    She went to another doctor with her complaints of pain, and he referred her to someone who may know more and that specialist deals with nerves in the jaws. Very specialized.
    He immediately confirmed some nerves in her jaw are pinching and that's why she was feeling pain. It borders in the outside of the jaw and has nothing to do with her teeth.
    She had her tooth removed for nothing and she was pissed.

      I've had the same experience. In my experience dentist who aren't TMJ specialist are unable to really help like we want them too. Like they didn't know at all what's the cause and suggested getting wisdom teeth removed and braces to correct my misaligned teeth. I don't think they were right, but not 100% wrong. I did remove my wisdom teeth and it helped a bit with the pain. My top right wisdom tooth radiated heat/pain, so with it gone I don't feel the agony that's so bad I considered ripping it out on my own. Still my jaw pain exist. I do need to see a specialist, but in America that means they charge way more than normal doctors, so it's a big commitment. I called one and was told that without Insurance it would be 300-500 for the consultation.

    Had Back Pain when I was 25, ignored it. Felt a snap, went to the Doctors and wrote it off as nothing. Felt it again two months later and they told me that I had a fracture after I insisted I get an X-ray despite them telling me it would be a waste of time. They then did an MRI and then found out I had Stage 4 Hodgkins Lymphoma and that it was slowly eating away my back which is why I had the back pain half a year prior to that time and why I had the fracture.

I go to another dentist in the US and they are like you only have one cavity the rest of the teeth only have stains which could become cavities in the future. Dentistry is a scam in America. healthcare stories oh boi american healthcare
    Long story short, i've been sick all my life, unable to keep my weight and hold in food. Years, i suffered, multiple doctors and hospital visits with just shrugs. As i got older, many doctors started to call me crazy to my face and say i was doing this for attention.
    Flashforward to me being extremely malnourished and having liver failure. turns out I don't digest food properly. The kicker? the test that confirmed this, I had had many years before....it had 2 parts...they never did the second part. More of a kicker, another doctor knew what i had when i was 9 and never said anything thinking i would grow out of it...I was diagnosed properly at 22
    Now i live with this forever, thankfully with medication that helps.....only problem...America has semi-banned this medicine and i have to have it brought in from Canada
    Moral of the story, there are good doctors and those who care...but lord do you have to go through hoops to find them

    I had jaw issues too.
    I couldnt open my mouth fully. Like its jammed halfway. Couldnt eat properly.
    Been to the dentist (3 in total)
    1st one said i need a surgery as my soft bone got dislocated. (It kinda is jutting into the jaw joints)
    Thats a big fucking commitment n he wanted me to book the surgery appt on the spot.
    Told him i wanna think abt it.
    Went to another dentist for 2nd opinion. This dentist did my braces. She took a look, confirmed it wasnt a braces issue, but told me it was out of her field. Referred me to a 3rd dentist.
    Went to 3rd dentist. Apparently he is some bigshot in my country that specializes in niche mouth issues.
    He took a look at my xray, my jaw, touched it, and asked me:
    "U feeling stressful? This is caused by stress"
    (I was studying for a national exam then and yes, i was stressed as hell)
    He then took a ice cooling spray (those that athelete use for muscle soreness), spray it on my jaw muscles, asked me to slowly open, and it opened.
    Apparently me being in constant stress = tensing up my muscles esp when im sleeping = muscles got locked = soft bone partially dislocated due to muscle contractions
    I was only charged a few bucks, told to use ice packs on my jaws n do stretching jaw exercises. I could open my jaw from then on. I was warned of relapses tho, so whenever im feeling stressed, i could feel my jaw muscles tightening and i would need to do the ice pack + muscle stretch again to prevent my jaws from locking.
    Fyi, this is why the mouth guard helps. It prevents ur jaw muscles from straining ur joint even more.

    Self-diagnosis is valid.
    Many born females with ADHD or Autism HAS TO self-diagnose because it's often pretty much impossible for them to get diagnosis. Never mind if they're part of minority group. You're highly privileged, not just because you have access and money to health care, to get the diagnoses and help you need especially as neurodiverse person.
    There's no other option to many than do it themselves and just try to survive. Society often sucks when almost all the conditions have been researched and tested on white males. Until we get that fixed - nobody can say never to self-diagnose.

    In Belgium you have a few options :
    1) Go see a psychologist (so not a doctor) who charges 60-70$ an hour, not reimboursable by social to sell you HIS program. Doesn't care about your problems, you or whatever. They are mostly underqualified to even understand psychological issues.
    2) Go see a psychiatrist reimboursable by social (so about 20$ an hour). Knowledgeable, "cares" about your health and has the tools to help. Waiting list goes from months to year and you're lucky if you can book 1-2 session every month of 50min. So basically barely enough time to tell what's wrong
    3) Go see a private psychiatrist like in the movies every week. About 100-120$ an hour if not more, dude is probably overbooked with rich clients if he's any good (like a dentist)
    You are mostly fucked honestly

    Garnt, sounds like Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) disorder. It can be caused by trauma, an improper bite, arthritis or wear and tear. Common symptoms include jaw tenderness, headaches, earaches and facial pain. I have TMJ as well, when I got braces I had a pallet widener installed since I had what’s called a cross bite. In answer to Joey's question why the GM refers you to the hospital is they can't keep up with the diagnosis for everything. If they're unsure they want you to get checked somewhere that can treat you and verify things if you are having symptoms that could mean something serious. The hospital doctor then looks at you with the eyes of someone who's used to seeing the serious version and is able to tell the difference because they see it a couple of times a week and knows the subtle differences. Or, option B for the just in case is the GM doesn't want you to sue if he's wrong and something bad goes untreated.

    I told my dentist of mouth pain when I was younger and she recommended I go to a specialist and the specialist told me the muscles in my face were slightly deformed. It was diagnosed with lock jaw, and if I chew for too long or too hard my jaw pops out of the joint and locks open for a while. It is painful and if it happens too often I could permanently damage the joint. It's not fun.

    As someone with a few mental disorders (depression, anxiety, adhd, autism, and narcolepsy if that counts as mental) I thought everyone just suffered the same as me. Even after finding out it's not normal I still have issues understanding how people even live normally; I just can't comprehend how people can do everyday things. I'm still pretty stuck on what to do and maybe that's why I'm writing this all in the first place, but medicine never worked on me and when it did, I only got the negative side effects. Therapy didn't help after going a few years, diet and exercise and going outside don't help either. I can't work and make money which also makes my anxiety and stress levels higher, which in turn makes everything else worse, so it's kind of a never ending cycle of suffering. Doctors have ripped me off a lot too, like forcing me to do things I don't want and then charging me hundreds for it, luckily it wasn't 30k though
    And as for the people that self diagnose, it's kinda cringe but it doesn't really have anything to do with me, nor has it affected me in anyway. I know they shouldn't do it but people do stupid things all the time so I just don't think about it.

    The whole self diagnosing is depending I think, like for some ppl it's stress relief having what their going through explained and understood and going to the doctor maybe it takes longer or maybe they're more reluctant to go or any other sort of issues they have. Of course there are those extremes where like u guys said they'd self diagnose for the badge but u don’t know whether they have or they haven’t, a lot of the time ppl just doubt and say nasty shit. I recommend watching sweet Anita’s video on it, she talk about just the amount of shit she and other ppl with Tourettes get with just ppl being doubtful and shit. It’s much better to let a liar go than cause pain to another person because no matter how sure u are that they're lying u're not a doctor either.

      I’m very convinced your nose problem is a deviated septum. Has it gotten worse the longer you had it? It can be partially genetic or happen naturally (like getting wacked in the face). It’s almost like a broken nose but your breathing is impaired because the nose can be slightly pushed in or the bone inside is preventing air flow.
      The easiest way to tell is if you feel you can’t take in a full, deep breathe like you used to.
      Go to an ENT specialist (look at reviews first if you can). The solution is surgery and recovery takes two-three weeks. I will say this- recovery is going to feel terrible. You need to breathe from your mouth for a few days . But I promise you once you are in the clear, you feel so, SO much better.
      Prices vary depending on insurance and the clinic that performs it. But seriously consider it if it is a deviated septum. If you feel like it has been getting worse the longer you wait, that means it will continue to.

      @doggosuki Před 2 lety

      i missed out some important info, what seems to be causing me not being able to breathe properly is that my nose is constantly slightly bleeding or something similar, and scabs form inside my nose that block my entire nose, plus its both nostrils. it happens really fast too, a couple times a day my nose just gets blocked up and in the mornings when i wake up

    • @NEMelodies
      @NEMelodies Před 2 lety

      @@doggosuki yeah that definitely sounds like a deviated septum.
      The thing is, it can still be genetic but your family doesn’t notice they have it. Sometimes it is so unnoticeable and doesn’t affect their daily lives.
      With your sister it sounds like only one side could have a deviated septum. With you it is possible the problem went on so long you have cartalidge (I forgot how to spell it) build up deeper inside.
      I highly recommend going to the ENT. They literally have cameras that can see the inside of your nose.
      Also pro tip: if you do get the surgery, have someone to stay with for a week. It is much easier when you have someone to care for you. After a week you are mostly sufficient

    Dental student here. There is actually quite a bit of debate within the dentistry community on how to approach wisdom teeth. Some dentists feel that it’s best to take them out in certain circumstances while others don’t think it’s always necessary. Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon to hear completely different advice between dentists.
    My advice is to try to find a dentist who is willing and able to explain their clinical rationale to you. It’s your teeth-don’t be afraid to ask questions and to explore your options.

    • @PL-md8op
      @PL-md8op Před 2 lety +2

      @Subi It depends. If an impacted tooth is directly causing pain or other symptoms, a dentist or oral surgeon will usually extract it. If it isn’t directly causing symptoms, there’s a number of different factors that need to be considered (e.g. the location of the cranial nerves, patient’s age and health, the direction and extent of the impaction, etc).
      This is where the debate arises because some doctors believe that all wisdom teeth (regardless of whether it’s causing problems or not) should be taken out while other dentists don’t want to put patients through surgery without a good reason.
      For example, I have two horizontally impacted wisdom teeth. One was removed because it prevented me from brushing the area properly and caused cavities the tooth in front of it. However, the other impacted tooth was left alone because it didn’t negatively affect my oral hygiene in the area + it runs really close to a nerve.

    Self diagnoseing isn’t ideal , agreed but getting a diagnosis ESPECIALLY for mental health is extremely expensive and often Not rigth. The amount of doctors who missdiagnos based of „too young for that“/ „your gender don’t have that“ etc is way to high
    Because women aren’t able to have autism or adhd and men can’t have an eating disorder?????
    (Like pls look into it there is a book they give children and ask them what they see to determine if they are autistic. This method is based on a study that had like 20 test subjects…. Like at this point googleing your symptoms is more accurate)
    So like Self diagnosing isn’t ideal but if you think … ah i migth have a mild case of adhd because I check multiple boxes… lemmi try stuff that helps others . Like fair if you ask me but yeah for like „I am unable to live and need help „ it’s definitely bad
    Edit : I don’t know the name off the book but if you search for frog book and autism a looooot comes up . And the sample size was 11 autistic children and 17 „normal „ ones as a control???? So even worst than I remembered. And yes this method gets used and according to many it’s incredible frustrating to the patients.
    Like a normal game theory video is more accurate (no shade in general the idea could be good but the sample size is horrible and it’s getting used as a yes or no thing … not a maybe . 11 children aren’t enough to scale up to the whole world)

      @@Juanito_Pecados In an ideal world, no one would need to self diagnose because diagnosis would be easily accessible and free for everyone. But the reality is that's not the case for most people.
      Generally, self-diagnosis isn't a bad thing. If you have symptoms in common with someone with a diagnosed condition and their, or other coping mechanisms, work for you then that's nothing but positive. Acknowledging conditions that you have or likely have is incredibly beneficial in most cases because it's really damn hard to go through life knowing something is wrong with you and feeling very broken and alone.
      If you've done your research and aren't sure or want to seek support and you can get a diagnosis, of course, go and do it. However, criticising and looking down on self-diagnosis is harmful. It villainizes disabled and chronically ill people who are just doing their best to understand and care for themselves. Self-diagnosis is only bad when the person diagnosing themselves doesn't take it seriously or isn't honest with themselves.

    • @Jovviial
      @Jovviial Před 2 lety

      the current state of self diagnosis and how much the internet glorifies it IS a bad thing though. there's nothing wrong with suspecting you might have adhd or something, educating urself about it and applying the coping mechanism that people of that disorder have into your lifestyle to see if it helps, and that then may direct you towards getting an official diagnosis. self diagnosis is supposed to be a personal thing, but not on the internet! now you have people declaring their autistic on tik tok and talking about autism and speaking on behalf of autistic people while miseducating people, spreading misinformation, making autism look all cute and quirky, demonizing healthcare professionals, scaremongering about diagnoses. all while they get tons of support and love from the rest of the self diagnosed community, and claim it's "valid" for them to do this because apparently they don't even need a diagnosis, their word should be enough. and tis exact kind of culture can also be applied to lots of other neurodivergent disorders also like DID and tourettes

    • @PurpleHat026
      @PurpleHat026 Před 2 lety

      @@Jovviial The problem with the example you've given is misinformation. Spreading misinformation is bad, it is something that is far far too prevalent on the internet but it is not restricted to self-diagnosis or caused by it. There are diagnosed autistic people who spread misinformation about autism online too. Being diagnosed doesn't make you an expert, it just means an expert assessed you and gave you a diagnosis. Many people receive diagnoses without further education or support from trained professionals. I know I had to seek out further support and information because my diagnosis only gave me a piece of paper and a prescription of meds.
      Also, self-diagnosed people do not need to be silent about their self-diagnosed condition. One of the most helpful and valuable parts of knowing you have a condition is being able to communicate that to offer clarity, understanding and access to support. A self-diagnosed person can know that there is an accommodation that could help them in work and so give their self-diagnosis to explain why they would benefit from said accommodation. They might explain it to friends or family so they understand why they might struggle with sensory issues or not understand social cues or whatever they struggle with from their self-diagnosed condition.

      @Juanito_Pecados Před 2 lety +4

      @@PurpleHat026 Its not advisable on the vast majority of circumstances, and saying that criticising it is the same as villanizing chronically ill people is, for the lack of a better word, stupid.
      Also, portraying it as overall good and making exceptions for self diagnosis is the more harmful thing here, because no matter how you look it, misidentification and mistreatment of diseases and conditions is an important cause of morbimortality, and at the end of the day it matters little if people do the best they can if the methods are still faulty or not apropriate. The criticism of a method isnt a judgement on the character of people.
      Also, you talk about how being dishonest is the problem on self-diagnostic, and everyone should do their research, ignoring the fact that people can still make erroneous assesments of stuff without being dishonest (thing that is extremely common when applied to oneself) and implying that how to do appropriate research is common knowlegde.

    it took 12 years to get diagnosed with Lyme Disease. Many doctors treated me like I was crazy or I was just fat. Doctors lied to me about my blood test results. I had a SED rate of nearly 40, and normal was under 10. The doctors made the excuse "Well in absence of other symptoms we just ignore it." Like Bitch, I was in severe pain. I had other symptoms.

    I stopped going to the dentist almost because different dentists always told me different things - different teeth had cavities for example. How can that be?? After about 20 years of not trusting dentists I actually had some tooth pain and went in and was told I needed two root canals. Since there was actually some pain I figured it was right and got all the work done. For better or for worse I'm now just following whatever they tell me to do. They told me to get my wisdom teeth pulled the next time I came in. Wisdom teeth were taken out a week ago. Good luck with dentists.

      If the situation of your cavities is not severe, some dentists would recommend you to leave it along but observe whether it develops after half a year. Anyway even if you get different suggestions, you should keep going to the dentist, do regular periodontal therapy and oral health checks. For your case, at some point all of your dentists will agree you have cavities on the tooth you have doubt in, and you can avoid root canals, probably.
      Anyway, I believe you can protect your child's oral health better with your experience!

    What Joey was saying about transferring to a bigger hospital to just get an easy fix that the previous doctor could have done is fucking annoying. I once hurt my wrist and went to urgent care and the doctor said it could be broken but he wasn't sure. He sent me to a bigger hospital to get another x-ray and the doctor there just said nah, this part here looks like this because you're still young, go home and take these pills. I came out with a prescription and 2 hours less in my life

    Healthcare and education the only reason why I’m happy that I live in a third world country lmao, it isn’t perfect (and slow) and I’m underpaid considering how much we work (like being on call 36 hours) but at least you can get good education without paying a cent and have decent medical attention. Here in Mexico people hate the health care system (most of the resources are stolen by politicians) but at least even the poorest person has access to hospitalization unlike america, they are given at lot of money in meds or have a broken arm treated for a tiny part of your salary or going to the hospitals that are for non workers were you get treated for free if the resources you need are available, mexicans complain but it could be worse like the insurance in america or the NHS in the UK
    And yes they are right self diagnosis is never the answer, brings more harm than good, we have a huge problem with mutant bacteria that are resistant to every single antibiotic due to people self diagnosing and taking antibiotics. Diagnosing something takes us years of studying, when you have a disease you won’t have 10/10 symptoms or signs and sometimes further studies are needed, so no matter how much your read about something you won’t be right, if you do get diagnosed with something you self diagnosed thats just coincidence

    self diagnosis can be a slight problem but it is also very valid especially if you do your research and talk to other people in a similar position, for example, i self diagnosed as autistic for a while before i was able to get the the official diagnosis, so self diagnosis is important because it usually leads to getting the proper medical diagnosis

    Why most people don't ask about that crying man ? A conform society doesn't tend to do it, also if you must grind to survive all the rest around you becomes less important.
    And another thing, it is impossible to great a good healthcare system. because the good ones tend to be for the rich. Because you can't make it operatable on a societal level. it budgets get bloated and useless like the NHS. and the worst thing, they tend to spend money in the wrong places
