Your music IS NOT automatically copyrighted when you "digitalize" it for the sole reason you did it in the US! It ONLY gets automatically copyrighted when you UPLOAD it to a SERVICE like Soundcloud or CD Baby. AND - Lucid Dreams could be the WORST example to choose, because the song featured parts of Sting's "Shape Of My Heart", which was a HUGE copyright violation on the side of Juice WRLD which was fallowed by a MAJOR LAWSUIT that he LOST!
Also, using copyrighted music in your CZcams videos will NOT result in your video being deleted! The only effect it has, is that the ad revenue will go entirely to the copyright holder of the music.

So I’m making a “TIKTOK compilation” on my channel, but the tiktoks are remade by me. I’m trying to test to see if any of the audio I use is copyrighted, so I saved the videos to be unlisted so CZcams can check the audio. Will this still put me in risk of getting a copyright STRIKE if the audio’s are copyrighted, or will it just give me a normal copyright claim?

Hi! I have heard some rules about it being okay to use 10 seconds or so of copyrighted music. Is this true? For example, using only one sentence, would that be okay? I am also wondering if it's okay when people use copyright music in the background for less than 30 seconds and they are singing to it in a vlog. How are the rules regarding this when they are louder than the actual music itself? 🙂

@Ibrahim Salah, I’ve had a copyright claim on a reaction video here on CZcams and I disputed the claim and the copyright owner agreed that it was fair use and the content ID claim was released from my video all it took from me getting the claim to me getting the claim released was 5 days, but in your particular situation I wouldn’t do it because it sounds like what you’re wanting to do isn’t fair use. But read up on fair use.

Ha! Thank you. Under American law, background music is often considered incidental, and therefore, no copyright violation. However, often YT AI picks up background music and generates a claim. Have to be careful when you're blogging.
A wonderful explanation of the copyright rules, I was very interested in the last part where you say that anything of your own, which you put up on CZcams is automatically copyrighted, and that you will own that copyright. My question is, would this copyright stand up outside of CZcams? i.e. If I invent something, or a new idea or way of doing a particular technique for constructing something, and make a video of it, does that automatically register me as the copyright owner for that idea?
I must also add that I live in U.K.

I know this video was mostly about music and this is very specific, but I was wondering if I am allowed to use models from video game mods made on the Steam Workshop. They are free to download, but most of them say something to the effect of, "You are not allowed to re-upload or edit any of these models. If you like the model and want to use it, please feel free to add this addon to your collection." I'm not sure if they mean re-upload in steam workshop, or just in general. Also, I see many people make mod showcases and seem to have no issues. If anyone knows the answer, please let me know. Thanks!

I’m going to guess thats no good? Next we have permission from a artist to use his music and paid, but are we allowed to use his music that is a cover? Lastly in one scene we have people loudly singing in the background (friends in low places) do we need to remove that audio as well? I’m going to assume that in all case its best to remove to protect our entity? If my three part question is too much for free legal advice please let me know and we'll go from there. Thanks again!!

Many times, you are allowed to stream video game background music. The best way to find out is to search the terms of service for the video game that you want to stream.

Today i just found out about the CZcams studio and checked it out. While looking through my videos i realized that almost half my videos have been copyright claimed (i have 20 all together and 8 claimed) i was shocked when i found out and i dont know what to do as some of my best videos (videos i have spent hours editing) have also been claimed. My channel isnt big at all but i dont want to loose it. Is it possible to put these videos on private until i get this sorted?

I have two copyright claims on two of my videos and they both not only say my channel is not effected but they both are in reference to royalty free music I’ve pulled short clips from. Confused still, but do thank you for what you have explained. So, if I sing a song that is someone else's copyright (cover a song), then want to put that on youtube, how do I do that legally? There was some way that youtube notified the owner and they decided if they were ok with it or not, or wanted any money earned. Is that still the case? Also there was a list where you could check which songs were ok to cover and post up and which were more complicated and that is no longer available (youtube music policies list). Is there a new way to check a song before putting it up? Would love to have someone with the knowledge how to understand all this explain it to me :-) By the way I'm only doing this for the first time in an amateur capacity right now, single figure subscribers and very limited knowledge of how this stuff all works. Hello Ian, I am a self-taught musician who played for 62 years and doesn't read a note, I can't so I play on a Yamaha Arranger workstation Tyros 3. My question is this: If I play nothing like the original of any person's creation and only adlib or even improvise in the song, would I have a problem with copyright laws on my channel. Keep in mind nothing sounds like the original maybe a melody could be similar but because I add a lot of my own style like Kenny G. Then I wonder if this would be infringing on copyright laws. Also, none of the original instruments are used to create the song it is all my own idea from the workstation. Not even the introductions are the same and I also sing. How come there’s a channel called Marty Music where the guy plays the whole song on each video and, he uses the name of the song in the title, has millions and millions of views ??? Suppose a single American songwriter creates a song in its entirety, records it himself, and registers the copyright of the master recording using Form SR. Is is at all necessary to also register the copyright of the composition itself using Form PA? Or is the author's copyright ownership of the work itself (not just the master recording) legally implied via the SR registration?

I have a question, in 2004 I signed a song with with a music publisher and for 17 years has never contacted me or called me. This song is copy righted in the library of congress plus the music publisher. I have never received a single penny for this song, even though it has been recorded many times. Now it is on a TikTok challenge with more than 15,000 videos and millions of shares and views. What can I do to claim royalties or get my song back and sign with another music publisher.

Would please, explain to me the different licenses (example: Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0), CC0 1.0 Universal (CC0 1.0) Public Domain Dedication, Attribution 3.0 Unported (CC BY 3.0)) that CreativeCommons.org lists on their website and if it is You Tube safe and You Tube videos that are monetized safe? What I am reading on the website sounds to good to be true to use songs as intro music and background music for my videos on You Tube and for trade shows for a client.
PS: I think this might be a large video idea, would please make a video on the different licenses that are found on CreativeCommons.org (including what the different symbols represents on the license) to help educate other content creators that are struggling to understand the website?

I have gotten copyright claims for music I was license to use. Even though I won the outcome, it affected my entire channel. I now only use music supplied by CZcams. Many creators will license their music through several companies. and whatever company you're not with can still put a copyright claim against you.

@@yoursocialmedialawyer I actually know people that create video and photo assets and sell them on many platforms. I respect that and I respect the right to make money that way. My beef is getting a copyright notice and having my channel messed up without checking with me first to see if I have the right to use it. I don't think these big creators with content ID should automatically be able to mess your channel up. I think they should have to reach out to you and you be given seven days to respond and prove that you have the right to use it before CZcams dings your channel. That seems like a more reasonable approach.

So not sure this applies to my situation or not? I do get copyright claims but no strikes... but this definitely has me thinking about it.
