- Brian Scalabrine was never a great NBA player, but there was a time where he helped the Nets win a pivotal Game 5 against the eventual champs in the 2004 Detroit Pistons. Today, we go over how he made a huge impact.

“I’m closer to Lebron than you are to me.” - Brian Scalabrine
Straight facts.
That's not wrong
He has got size and he can shoot…end of story for any amateur fantasizing about challenging him lol
He's also closer to a big mac burger than he is to me
That's some "who do you think you are I am" energy.
Thanks for sharing the only game where Scalabrine missed a shot.
This is similar to Kobe's airball game. Since then Scal dominated the NBA.
Never missed since
Legend says that the White mamba stayed up for days after the game taking 1 million consecutive shots so that he would never make that mistake again.
RJ himself said in an IG(or twitter i forgot) post: Do you know how good you have to be to suck in the NBA?
some guy in the NBA youve never heard of is still one of the best basketball players the universe has ever known
@@xTheNameisEthan yeah your trippin
Just say social media next time
@@giospage he right tho i mean look at anthony bennet yeah he really sucks for a top pick but he'd look like shaq against average street hoopers
@@giospagenah he’s not. Only about 1 percent of college players make it to the nba and only 0.03 percent of high school basketball players make it. The worst role player in the nba is 3 times as good as you or anyone you’ve ever known on their best day. Prime scalabrine and mid 90s Jud Buechler would destroy anyone you know in a 2 on 2.
Brian Scalabrine is so dominant makes the NBA secretly banned him playing for more than 5 minutes a game to balance the competition
There is a reason why you never seen Ray Allen and White Mamba on the floor at the same time. Too broken. Closest we got was Curry and Klay but that was still light years away.
The next season in a game against the Warriors he played 40 minutes, scored 29 points and shot .706 from the field.
- It's why Kobe took the name Black Mamba -- to balance the force of the White Mamba.
"I may suck as an NBA player, i mean those guys are pretty good
But i dont suck compared to you
You you suck compared to me"
-White Mamba
"The coach asked me to stop defending myself, so I shot 100% at the 3-point line. I feel bad, it's no a fair game."
- Brian Scalabrine
Lol
LMAO
Forget about the glove Gary Payton. Scal is the virgin condom
Lol
I saw a video of Scalabrine playing 1-on-1 against 4 top level college players/G-league players and he blew them all away. The difference between second string NBA players and top level college players is huge.
Yeah, it doesn't seem like it when you're watching these guys dominate in college, but the gap between NBA players and the vast majority of college players, even at the D-I level, is massive. That's why they only have two rounds in the draft these days, and even most first rounders don't end up as anything more than role players on their squads. Anyone who makes a roster deserves at least that level of respect as one of the best in the world.
The Scalange!
Honorable mention in the 75 all time list
🤣🤣👍
Should've been in the 50. The fact that he wasn't in the league yet is irrelevant.
@@javonwells1354 Scal should be in a separate list - its blasphemous to compare those other guys to him
They should've predicted and put him in the 25 best players.
More like Top 1 all time
"Brian Scalabrine taught me how to shoot." - Steph Curry
🤣
Brian Scalabrine is a baller. He's close to 7' tall with a jumper. He's not the most mobile guy, I'll admit that. But he is a very smart defender, he has a high basketball IQ. I've seen him live in non NBA competition and you can see how much better he is than other players. He played at USC, I remember seeing him live in college and he was a star at USC. The NBA always makes these guys look worse than they really are. They only display some of their skills in the league. When you see NBA players playing outside of the NBA, you can get a better understanding of how skilled they really are when they are not playing against the best athletes in the world.
Brian Scalabrine - the only basketball player in the world who is not afraid of Alex Caruso.
I think a big part of what separates a average NBA player from a star is consistency and reliability. You gotta be able to play at a high level basically every game. Even if you're a role player, the team is still depending on you to play your part.
MJ could still go out and get you 25 points, but he's not doing that for a whole season + postseason.
while your point is correct - jordan literally did exactly that.
averaged 30 for his entire career, 33 in the playoffs AND (i counted) he only had 87 games in his entire career where he scored less than 20, not accounting how many of these games he played reduced minutes or was sat early.
of 1072 games.
@@leonhardable I think hes talking about MJ right now, as in 58 year old Michael Jordan
Not only that. But in an interview scal himself said that in order to play at the next level you have to be making reads in less than a second otherwise you’re toast since most guys have that blow by speed.
@@samarthshah4239 oh, lmao
Mj right now would average a cool 0 ppg. He like 58 😂 that shit getting swatted every time not to mention he gonna be gassed after 1 minute of play
I think that this guy was born 15 years too early. In the NBA today a lot of teams would cover him with money just to be a shooting 5. At the time the value of a player like this was not understood. Today he would be used as a specialist in a different offensive and defensive set-up, and you could highlight his strengths (shooting, plus he was not a dumb player and he could handle the ball a bit) and hide his weaknesses.
Nah, the difference is mostly that the Corliss Williamsons of today are told to develop 3 point shots rather than playing more Scalabrines. There's a reason guys like Ryan Anderson fell out of the league- now you can get players who do other things but also shoot the 3 which makes them not a liability on offense.
Yeah he'd get 80 mill like Davis Bertans
too slow for modern nba
I'd take scalabrine over Ben Simmons
He'd be like simmons, but better
this playoff series was crazy. That Jefferson block would probably be talked about more if the Pistons didn’t end up winning the series+ championship.
Anyways, I enjoyed the longer than usual video🤙
I've always been waiting to see a game like this where a bunch of starters foul out and it goes to like 4th overtime and some end of bench guys need to get the dub. Still want to witness it first hand now, knowing its possible
I was lucky enough to watch Game 6 Celtics vs Bulls 2009 Playoffs live and that was the best basketball experience I've ever had. It doesn't get better than that.
That will most likely never happen in today's NBA because the league has to protect the stars, and casual fans only want to watch them play, not the no name guys on the bench.
Fun fact: Scalabrine could have won a championship as an assistant coach of the Golden State Warriors.
He joined Mark Jackson’s coaching staff, but was reassigned by Mark Jackson to coach their G-league team when there was internal in-fighting between the staff and front office vs Mark Jackson (top defensive assistant Darren Erman was also fired for trying to secretly record Mark Jackson to prove he was contentious).
However, the front office did tell Brian that they were willing to give him a second shot to audition as one of Steve Kerr’s coaching assistants, but he declined and returned to commentate for the Celtics.
Then the Warriors go on to win the championship in Kerr’s 1st year.
And remember, the next year they reeled off their 73 win season with Luke Walton coaching half of the season while Steve Kerr recovered from back pain.
So Scalabrine hypothetically could’ve won a ring as an assistant coach, then stepped up and coached during their 73 win season for around half of their wins.
Well he did carry the celtics to the 08 chip
*That is a wild story.*

Look at Scalabrine man, so inspirational...
the LEGEND OF WHITE MAMBA.
Never was a bad player, just never had the team that would give him the chance to showcase his skills.
Everyone thinks they’re one of the top 400 players in the world, until they actually play one-on-one against someone who is. It’s ridiculous that dudes who were barely the best player at their local YMCA really thought they were better than Scalabrine.
And don’t forget many of the top players in the other high level leagues in the world could easily be productive role players or even stars in the NBA now
every time you talk trash about some nba player saying you are much better, remember those daniel li words: "any player in the nba is good enough to make an impact on any night"
"he became the hero that no one expected"
*shows a clip of him missing a free throw* 🤣
All love Daniel Li. I love your content🔥
His per 75’s this game are legendary
Check out Scalabrine at USC. It's not the NBA but you can see his abilities
deym remember this Nets team. One of the first if not the first team to utilize spacing through 3 point threat. Scal was a legit backup shooter back then. They're like the prototype Modern GSW
I still can't believe he made a 360 reverse fadeaway dunk from the free throw line
Caruso is close to pull that off but he needs to do that fully to surpass Scal
this is basically the same career im expecting from Kuzma
Nah, Kuzma had hype goin in
He was on fire
Brian is the NBA and ABA goat!
This game was crazy. You could see how ridiculously tired all the starters that were left were during the last 2 overtimes.
this game was deep in the memories holy shit
Nice vid!
OG mamba, pure killer Scala 💥💥💥👌👌👌👌❤️❤️❤️❤️
i mean he made it to the NBA for a reason.
For sure, anyone that can make it to a professional team, even the bottom of the list, is nothing to scoff at. It takes talent on a level that not many people have, so while they may not be the best, they are definitely better than you in a variety of ways. I'm sure this guy felt like it was the greatest day of his life.
The "worst" I stress the quotes since to play in the nba, no one sucks.... But the least of them are still light years better than anyone you know.
Before Alex Caruso, we had Brian Scalabrine, the White Mamba!
That Nets team was must watch tv with Kidd,Kittles,RJ and KMart
the impact was like nuclear bomb i remember that
This guy could really shoot. The problem was his defense was poor. Which is why he didn't get any playing time.
People should know how great Scalabrine is.
Brian is easily a top 10 player of all time.
GOAT
pretty ok game for the GOAT
ME: Scalabrine, how many threes can you hit?
Scalabrine: YES!
"lebrons closer to me then you are to him." ~ Brian Scalabrine

"i can beat this guy" says many average joes
This feels like a slow burner movie.
Piston fans remember him
Of course he's the G.O.A.T🐐🐐🐐
I successfully convinced my grandma that Brian Scalabrine is the greatest basketball player of all time
Can you please do a video for the Nets and Bucke Game
Yessirr
As a Pistons fan who watched this live, I was _so_ pissed at Larry Brown for not putting in Mehmet Okur with the rest of the team fouled out. I assume he was being petty about something, cause Larry always was a drama queen. So he just let Scalabrine nearly end a championship run. Fucking prima Donna.
That was pretty dirty wheelin' out Sacl at the end like that , just to secure the win.
I love scal
Any guy in the NBA is 100x better than guys playing at the court or at the Y. The people who say they could beat Scal are so out of their minds, they don't understand just how good he is, or ANY NBA player is. You don't play 11 years in the NBA if you aren't good.
The Vanilla Godzilla!!
Before Dirk Nowitzki, there was Brian Scalabrine
Just ordered my Scalabrine Jersy
He could have done that a lot if he was utilized. Open jumper. Wide open one dribble pull up. All day. He's a lot like Ryan Anderson. They just need to be in the right system.
I think it's great that we've come so far that gingers are allowed on the court.
Height: 6-9 Weight: 250 Hair: perfect Warmup pant ripoff skill: god level Stats: 11 seasons, 6650 minutes, 1 ring, 3 ROY, 1 360 dunk from FT line
“Lebron is closer to me than you are to him”
- white mamba
The Nets went on to win the series and Scal averaged 44 pts 39 rbs 99 asts 90 stls 89 blks and 2 buzzer beaters per game.
No one who makes it to the NBA is a bad basketball player.
High basketball IQ!!
I want to say something that is not central but that Daniel said : the pivotal games. He said the game 5 is pivotal, but in fact the game 2 and 4 are more pivotal than game 5. That's because there a BIG difference between 1-1 and 2-0 because in the second case you gotta win 2 games to simply even the series while in the first case the series is already evened. Psychologically there a big difference. And there's also a big difference between 3-1 and 2-2 for the same reasons and also because in the 3-1 situation, you cannot do a mistake because otherwise, you lose (but that's true that in the 2-0 situation, if you lose again, you have a very small chance to win the series because I don't think any team ever catch up a 0-3 delay).
The game 5 is less pivotal because you only have 1 more game to win if you lose after a 2-2 situation. But like I said before in other words, you gotta win 2 more games if you lose the game 2 or 4.
this was actually game 4 and if the nets lose then they'd be down 3-1 so in that regard it's pretty crucial for the nets to even the series putting it at 2-2.
@@hughjass40 ok cuz I thought he said game 5 maybe he said the scalabrine's team wins so there will be a game 5
@@Jean-Samuel yeah i think he made a mistake but you were right in game 4 being important lol
The craziest part of this whole thing is that the Kings and Timberwolves were in the playoffs.
Not really crazy if you know who were on those teams.
@@timeflies313 Its crazy considering both franchises are in long playoff droughts, jackass.
It was his night
reminds me of .45
Matt Bonner is the White Mamba to me. Love Scal anywho.
People make fun of him, but he was still a better basketball player than about 65% of all people watching this video.
😂😂😂😂
99%*
More then 65% probably 100%
You mean 99.9%?
LOL not one person watching this video will ever play in the nba
I think now nba he is star. Better than towns
the white mamba he has moves and nice shooting ... he could have lost weight and add msucles i think he could be a good player
I was 9
He cut away at 0:42, but I can guarantee that ball went in.
Has anyone ever noticed you never see Scalabrine and Chuck Norris in the same room at the same time? Just sayin'... HahahahahaHI-YA!!! *UNEXPECTED CHOP TO YA FACE!!!* (Rule #1: Never let your guard down whilst reading CZcams comments.)
- C. Norris
lmao
Scal just played in the wrong era. He would probably be averaging 15 and 7 in todays game.
this is a dumb comment he would be the same as he was
@@zoobiezaa no he wouldnt. He is a stretch 5, which is nonexistent at his time but in today's nba its an asset for most teams to space put the floor.
@@crudojoshuaricofort8795 he is a stretch 4 and thats a stretch no pun intended because hes not even a good shooter for todays standards
@@zoobiezaa not even a good shooter, what? Scalabrine may not be good at many things, but his 3pt shooting is one of them. 34-35% 3PT% for a big guy ain't a liability. In fact, that's even considerably higher than Kobe and MJ's career 3PT% (albeit on higher difficulty), but still far from "not even a good shooter".
Demi god meme
Kobe called him the RED mamba, not the white mamba!
I hate average ball players who think they are better than NBA players who are not starters or are just role players.
as a rockets player my favorite player would have to be chuck hayes his post defense and passing was so fun to watch
Scal is so humble, but we all know that its LeBron is closer to scal than your are to LeBron
*Scalabrine walked so Caruso could fly.*
Meme ?
He was in the NBA, where are you ?
Shade is not a basketball term. It is a street ball term that literally can mean anything.

Twenty six fouls in the fourth quarter? Isn't this during the height of the fixing scandal?
Orange mamba..... probably regales beating scrubs than this playoff game
it's clear that if was given minutes he'd have better numbers duh
Back when the NBA played defense..
he should have gotten a technical foul for his hair
Even garbage players can have a good day.
This guy constantly utters statements as if they're questions?
How about not talking people just want to see
