Shit, man, just try to stick to the source material or make a different movie. Ada Wong is literally Chinese. You want diversity, just fucking give her a meaningful role in the movie. RE4 literally takes place in Spain, so if you want hispanic or plain Spanish actors, just fucking GO THERE.
It's really not that hard to just include diverse characters, in a story that is written to just include them organically. Charles Xavier isn't a cripple so you can go "look at the cripple" and then the next scene starts, he's just in a wheelchair. It's not his defining character trait, it's just who he is. I cannot praise this movie for its constant references to the games. This is the sort of thing most videogame movies do _all the time:_ they translate direct quotes, scenes, outfits or locations from the games but they utterly fail to understand their heart and what makes them appealing to the fans. Like the whole "Itchy. Tasty." thing, which in the game was a dark and ominous depiction of a person losing their humanity and here it's utterly devoid of meaning even though it's literally being written by a character who's _shown_ to be losing their humanity. They have all the correct ingredients, but they're mixing them in the wrong order and proportions, so they end up with an inedible mess.

Dude two things stuck out the most to me of just how much they missed the point of this. 1 was Wesker & Birkin's meeting, these 2 have history in the games, work rivals turned co-conspirators in the murder of their mentor to take over his research, both men who betrayed Umbrella for their own self serving needs and in the movie they had no history, nothing, just random strangers. The other being Lisa Trevor, her backstory is one of the most tragic stories in the series, of a young innocent girl brought to the Spencer estate because her father built it, her whole family kidnapped and used as test subjects for both the virus and the Mansion's death traps, Lisa being left the only survivor due to her high adaptability to the virus which is how the G-Virus got made, the virus having damaged her mind so much that she killed her own mother and ripped her face of and wears it alongside her own peeling face in hopes to give it back to her when she sees her again. Movie Lisa was just some orphan Birkin experimented on which became friends with a young Claire.
The director didn't get it, everything he said was just PR babble he rehearsed to get fans into watching his sub par, direct to tv movie he conned his way into putting in theaters.
Sonic The Hedgehog literally did it better, paid fan service while also being it's own movie, and even using the iconic gold rings as an actual plot significant item that meant something and explain why Sonic needs to collect them

Honestly besides Leon being turned into an incompetent wimp and Wesker not even being an evil double agent who orchestrated the downfall of STARS Alpha Team anymore, I think William Birkin got the biggest downgrade. In the original what made Birkin so disturbing that he was this regular man who lost his humanity by his own creation and slowly grow more grotesque and disturbing as the game went on. In your first fight with him he moans Sherry’s name and it looks like his last traces of his consciousness are fighting for control. But after becoming G2 and especially G3, he’s nothing more than a mindless monster entirely overtaken by the virus. But nah, let’s get rid of all of that and just turn him into the generic villain who turns into a monster, retains their humanity and monologues the whole time you fight them! It worked for Wesker since…well, he’s Wesker, but for Birkin it’s just characters assassination at its finest.
This movie doesn’t feels like it was made by a fan of the games at all, but with someone who only played RE1R and RE2R and was like “you know, let me make a Resident Evil film, but mash two games together without rhyme or reason and make the characters look nothing like their game counterparts…because I’m a genius!”

I’m a huge re fan and my boyfriend and I saw this in theaters when it came out, so here’s my critiques:
-Leon’s canonically a very competent character
-Chris and Claire didn’t grow up in Raccoon City
-Lisa Trevor never spent time at the Raccoon City Orphanage as she was imprisoned in the Spencer Mansion as a test subject alongside her mother Jessica in 1967
-The Ashford twins were not Umbrella test subjects, but clones of Countess Veronica Ashford, grandmother of one of the initial founders. In fact, the girl, Alexia Ashford, was a senior researcher at Umbrella
-Chris and Claire are very close, if anything, he left her behind to join S.T.A.R.S
-The events of the first and second games happen months apart
-Claire actually only goes to Raccoon City in the second game because Chris is missing, and this leads into the events of Code: Veronica
-Jill and Wesker were never romantically involved
-Kevin Dooley was not a member of S.T.A.R.S, he
    was just a regular officer
-Chief Irons was the taxidermist, not Birkin
-Wesker and Birkin are friends in the games
-Ada works for Wesker, not the other way around
-75% of Bravo team is missing
-The Ecliptic Express and the overturned MP vehicle are nowhere to be found
-Itchy Tasty was initially a haunting statement written by a man as he documented his change into a zombie. Not anymore
-If they wanted to do a mashup of 2 games, then do 2 and 3, since they literally overlap with each other

Hence the quote.

You can squeeze both Jill’s and Chris’ cutscenes and dialogs into a 30 minute video, and I’m being very generous, because they will include dramatic monster encounters, boss fight intros and puzzle cutscenes. The game’s backstory is told through documents and pictures you find.
The game is known for its oppressive atmosphere, grotesque visuals and intriguing sound design. The actual plot (what is actually happening and relevant to show on screen) could be described in up to 3 paragraphs. Good luck with that.

if they are gonna make another live action move, they should make it like canon to the games. The characters are already established. But it doesn't have to be directly tied in to the main storyline, it can be like almost a standalone movie like if Leon went off on a side quest. Also hire the writers from the animated films.

    1. The adobe flash CGI fire from the helicopter explosion. It made me and my roommate laugh so hard that he farted and I nearly peed myself.
    2. The one guy who was part of bravo team in the mansion raid, whose name was never dropped AT ALL until RIGHT BEFORE HE DIES.
    3. When Leon walks in with a rocket launcher and fires point-blank at Berkin while literally everyone is less than 3 feet away, and Chris just like, ducks to avoid the explosion like in the games. The explosion that literally blows the train car everyone is standing in in half and makes a giant house-sized hole, and injures nobody while killing Berkin.

This movie is the epitome of "just because you can doesn't mean you should". Just because creative liberties can be taken doesn't mean they should be taken. Not every creative liberty is going to benefit the story. Not to mention Elvis is right. You don't need to condense both the first and second game stories into one film. Something tells me it's because the director saw that there were so many creative liberties taken that the story stopped being Resident Evil, like the Ship of Theseus paradox. I get that they're following the John Carmack logic of story, in that it's expected to be included but is secondary to the action. However, in a cinematic setting where story is everything, it's generally considered lazy to leave that kind of thing out. Games leave the action up to the player, whereas film places control in the hands of the plot. The two are not the same, in that regard.
