@Honeymooncake yeah but Netflix exclusives in general really kinda suck.
People like me usually see reviews before they see the movie. If everyone on the internet is telling me not to watch a movie, then I'm not going to watch it.
I agree that people will watch a movie regardless of it's quality or the messages it's peddling, cuties is a prime example of this.
However, The Office was the most streamed show on Netflix for the time that it was on there. Compare that to the mediocre movies, and you can see how Netflix would be incentivised to host the more popular shows and movies.

5:23 Ears or tongue... not much of a choice?? From a medical perspective this is easy! Take the ears!! The part of the ear that you can cut off is not essential for hearing, it just improves the manner in which the soundwaves impinge your ear drums. The tongue on the other hand is an organ you definitely never want to miss, since drinking, eating, speaking etc. is usually pretty important in life.
Edit: Regarding the computer vs arm feast.. well.. your survival chances depend on your equipment. If you have tools to actually eat your arm (fun fact: your teeth wont be enough) and if you have tools to manage the wound (stop the bleeding, desinfection) than it actually might be better than eating the computer. Aside from the fact that some elements are toxic, pieces of plastic can definitely damage your intestines, thus cause peritonitis or sepsis. You can live without an arm but not with a hole in your digestive tract.

to be fair his son is kind of a d*ck at the beginning of the movie. I also kind of wonder what would have happened if she told the waitress to keep breaking glasses. would she have started throwing them at her or would it have just continued for a little bit longer before the game asked again? Because I don't really see a way to write out of that corner if she doesn't pick clean up. I feel like both choices should seem viable after the context of the reveal.
I do totally agree that eating the computer was by far the worse choice though. But it sort of struck me as the guy didn't believe it anyway so he was just like "yeah whatever my arm." but there were far dumber choices made during the movie.
like her not starting with rewind when her friend was trapped. instead going back and forth which seemed to have no possible benefit and made it look like she was actually torturing him to death on purpose. regardless of how silly the whole thing looked. Not to mention his last words were CRINGE AF. It is extremely difficult to make a joke work during a scene where a main character is dying.
Also not sure how dragging her friend a few feet saved him when he was not breathing. But on top of that they go ahead and kill off that dude like 10 minutes later. Making that choice entirely pointless. Also this game supposedly alters reality to such an extent it can materialize objects from thin air. So who is to say if she had chosen to save her brother he wouldn't have just come back to life. This is the problem with not clearly defining what the rules of your movie.
P.S. This movie had robert englund phoning it in...I believe that is probably literal, because it sounds like they just had him record a couple lines of dialogue and email it to them. That is his only role in this movie. it's not even interactive conversation it's pre-recorded bs where he has to say his own name so you know who it is. So he technically isn't even in this movie at all. I feel like they wanted him to be the cursor but when he read the script he only agreed to do a voice cameo.
he was actually in zombie strippers for a good amount of screen time...but this movie was too bad for him. lol

So the title is essentially implying that once you start the game, with every action you take you are executing (running) commands within the curse program.
Love you Elvis, but it irks me when reviewers (not just you) apply arbitrary and usually false or misleading details to things they simply didn't research or know about just to get a laugh, or to straw man the material to prove a point.

I even thought it was gonna go the direction of the Ring where Kayla has to duplicate the game to survive or she gets more corrupted into her darker impulses as she plays further. I get - fiction wise - not getting more people involved to save lives and also how difficult it is to explain to the authorities but in a lot of these situations, it was better to have backup. Okay so hear me out: I don't ALWAYS hate it when characters chase after a voice of someone dead. In some movies (and I would lump 'It' into this category) the force/ghost/whatever has other supernatural powers that not only mimic the voice but also "hypnotize" the victim. 'It' especially. The clown in 'It' isn't a clown at all but a fundamentally evil force that has existed since before the Big Bang. 'It' has the power to not only cause immense sorrow and suffering but also (implicitly) great joy. False hope really that the dead can be raised and life can be happy and good. There are many TERRIBLE examples but I think using 'It' really does a disservice to the new movies (and the book because the movies were actually quite accurate). I think it is used badly in this movie, but if it has been established that the villain is capable of mind-control, the luring in using a dead person's voice is just a technique of the mind control.

Luring a character by someone or someone's voice would make more sense if it was someone alive in character's life. Although in 'It' movie I think it made sense (first movie) cause Bill believed for the most of the film that his brother is still alive. Still, reasonable people would think twice if that's not a trap especially when a lot of weird, paranormal shit is going on around them.

@@ea8455 ...none of that is true at all. for one thing your instinct to not breath water doesn't go away with age...what the actual fuck are you talking about?
for another all your experience prior to that moment has taught you not to breath water and the feeling of it flowing into your airway is going to choke you the second you start to try to breathe it in. So it's going to be a pretty violently painful experience.
as far as your waterboarding comment that has to be just about the dumbest thing I have read today. it's exactly that instinct that prevents the person you are torturing from drowning. They wait until you breath out so that you choke on the water and have to fight to keep it out of your lungs. People being tortured with no end in sight would likely choose to breath in when having the water poured over their face, but they can't.
On top of all of that, she doesn't actually want to die and her instinct to survive will take over even suicidal people have problems with their attempt sometimes because of their own instinct to survive. A classic example is someone who puts a gun up to their head and pulls the trigger but flinches causing a non fatal wound or missing completely. This actually happens quite a bit. There was one example they found where the guy attempted to kill himself in the garage with a shotgun but flinched as he pulled the trigger blowing off part of his ear instead...he actually walked back into the house and bandaged himself up before walking back out to the garage for a second, more successful attempt. At least that was what was concluded from the used shells, blood trails and bandages they found.

You could sends tones back through the phone to hack it. You could also interpret tones similar to IPv4 address ranges to determine where a call came from. The most popular hack was playing the tone that tricked a pay phone into thinking you added a quarter to get free calls. Another hack was playing the tones for a neighbor's phone number, then playing the tones for the place you want to call. Because of how cheap production costs can be for modern movies, you can get original, high quality movies made on barely any budget: for instance, two well-known and well-polished movies that were made quite cheaply are The Invisible Man and Ex Machina. Plus with how accessable international films are, movies like Drive My Car and Worst Person in the World from last year could be seen anywhere. On letterboxd, the highest rated movie of all time is a Korean movie that came out just three years ago.
Modern blockbusters on the other hand are generally dying. Many modern blockbusters are formulaic and uninspired, especially compared to what we were getting from even a decade ago. Bad movies succeed and different and great movies flop.
So you're right. The film industry is dying, but films themselves are truly alive.

Sort of off topic, but I think having your ears cut off would be the obviously better choice because, like, it's your ear-hole that actually does the hearing (even if the other stuff amplifies it) and you could probably get reconstructive surgery or have it sewn back on since your ear is just cartilage, but your tongue's a muscle, so you can't really replace that.

I feel like realistically you would definitely drown before you bled out, especially from a shallow throat wound. People have survived way worse. I found the movie as a whole absolute shit but ultimately enjoyed the ending, the complete opposite of most movies

I love how she just instantaneously forgot that 1: the target of the curse wasn't the player, but the people the player LOVED, and 2: THE FINAL BOSS FOR ANY PLAYER SHE TARGETED WOULD BE /THE CURSER/, WHICH WOULD BE /HER/
She has 3 "levels" MAX to make sure any of these mfers end up dead, or they're DRIVING TO HER HOUSE!!!

I think this is a Film that everyone should actually rather watch and make their own opinions upon before simply writing it off as a bad Netflix horror.
I think the acting is very captivating and I had a great watch.
I have to disagree quite a bit with a few points, for example the rat scene was awesome, calling the police would not really work because they at least would have needed 15 minutes at max efficiency which I would not really expect in that area.
And either I don’t understand really or I missed something, but I thought that the curse existed already and they bound it with the game. And I am quite sure you could make a system that could accept the cursed symbols.
And btw you always pass the level as long as you don’t die, I don’t know why you would stop playing bc I there is no reason not to believe the game would kill you.
But all in all, the ending was really infuriating, true that.

I feel like Elvis is trying to grasp at everything trying to criticize it so he can span it out like other youtubers do.
I mean he’s had this formula but it wasn’t bad because he was always reviewing shitty movies where this one is actually kind of decent so instead of being able to find shit to make fun of from a really awful film he has to overreact with everything to make it longer, at least that’s just how I feel.

The narrator is Robert Englund. I think they wanted for him to kinda do his goofy Freddy voice, instead of his scary one, idk. Plus they call his voicemail line in the beginning of the movie lol.

I have a million dollar idea: there's this cursed evil movie that appears from nowhere (not important, obviously) and whoever gives it a bad review, mysteriously dissappears or 💀 and it is called the review.

I think it’s spelled they way it is to give a misconception about the name. I think it might actually be meant as Curser, since the idea behind it is that whoever has power over the game is the one cursing the players.

I watched this movie before I watched this video and it was actually not that bad except for the end. It was generally ok. It doesn't scare you by jumpscares (usually), but it makes you scared of the scenes like the woman eating glass. The end was very stupid tho. 4/10 imo.

  • @erlgjnerigneoifnroiueabgr

i might have a bad taste for movies but i really like what this movie sounds like! i can give some leverage to the explanation because cmon, it's magical symbols, theyre not meant to make sense theyre just meant to work. also looks well made enough to not be boring, i think. and i really like the rat part, it think it's the best scenes by far, maybe couldve belonged to a better movie. definetly not saying it's a good movie, but it's likeable.
