😂 I loved your honest response to what you found after looking under the hood and your assistance to keeping my neighbours happy... Don't have the glove surprise under my hood but will be happy to start the car up in the mornings without cringing and the 😫😫😫 sound again 🤣🤣 actually I think I could drive off laughing thinking of your video. Cheers for the help 🇦🇺
LOL...my father had a few of these(91-93) when I was a kid. The 4wd transmissions were HORRIBLE! The others were amazing. Thanks alot for taking the time to respond LOVE the humor you add to your videos make it all that more fun to watch!
Thank u! This is a quick and easy to understand video. Being a woman and wants to fix my car on my own , this is a big help because i’m not about to pay $$ on bringing my car to the shop. Lol
I replaced the alternator belt on my 1995 Honda ACTY Mini truck and that's exactly the sound I get for the 1st 5 seconds with the new belt! Is gone there after with the engine running ! Looks like additional tension is required! Thanks for the video!
Wow you are great I was looking for that problem a long time ago go and the people used to say to me me in a garages this is your gearbox that was rubbish many thanks from you you sorted no problem good job
I laugh so hard I’m crying and can’t breathe. It’s funny when I hear screaming cars my mom has a van that does it and it’s embarrassing lol everyone looks at you when you turn it on. My chest hurts now.
@Dicofole Silicone causes slip in the short run. Belt dressing softens the material causing it to dry out with a vengence. I like to buy DAYCO belts. They are the best value in the long run. Mitsuboshi are also very good.
It's true with the draw on the alternator, but also check the battery connections and condition along with the charging system condition, as that will add to the draw on a correctly tensioned belt and create the same result
@rtzapper Electric motors never fail.... lol. I once saw a restaurant that had one electric motor running a leather belt to a series of ten ceiling fans. It was pretty awesome.
@dergrossen No problem. I try to be sensitive to others, and it is obvious that you are returning the consideration. Thank you. Sometimes I forget that we are communicating with folks from other countries so I apologize for any confusion for which I was responsible. I have never been to the UK but I once owned a 1968 Triumph Spitfire. I loved that car, and it taught me how to work on cars. I hope to visit the UK sometime soon. Wrench=Spanner; Hood=Bonnett etc. Your lingo is very cool!
I hear that but also when I shut the vehicle off I can hear the sound like bearings going bad as something that was spinning slowly is coming to a stop. Sounds like dirty bearings on a skate board wheel after you soon it and it slows down. This happens once you have shut off the vehicle.
The other thing is that it wont charge the battery as it should (it will but not as good) if it screams when ever you take off from a light or stop sign that's when it will drain your battery or not charge it right , if it only does it sometimes like in the summer it could be your AC Compressor too? a quick and TEMPORARY fix ONLY for a few days is belt dressing works very well untill you have time to check it out the right way
Just put a brand new belt in a Ford ranger 3.0. (auto tension) and it sqeauls constantly. Old one didnt squeal. I checked all the pulleys and they are fine. Whats the problem? Crappy quality belt? Cant figure it out. Keep up the good work Brian.
That's exactly the sound i hear😮a mechanic told me that the belt is dry and to buy a candle and put it on the alternator as it spins😅i was like umm a man😳
I tried it but didn't work. I think the sound also depends on your battery, if the battery is weak/old it can lose so much charge that the starter has to work extra hard to supply the power
On my 2006 F350. The alternator doesn't kick in until about a minute after starting. So does that car not work the same? I was told that was to give the battery the chance to recover after starting the car, so that full demand is not placed on the alternator.
Brian, no matter how easy the fix or how little knowledge the owner might have, you always treat folks with respect and do not demean them. While I am practically a mechanical genius, I realize that other folks might have other talents that are not mechanical. I know there are lots of non-mechanical folks that have wondered what that screeching sound is on a car. Sometimes the belt is loose enough that we hear it at every stop light. Thank you for making respectful yet informative videos.
Good tip. I had to do this to my car after it got a new belt on it from the dealership. I assume the new belt stretched some after it was installed. Also, I lol'd when I saw the vice grips on the battery terminal. What the heck was that there for?
I am getting similar sound in my Fiat Linea.. someone in the Fiat forum mentioned that the sound is due to Starter Bendix/Pinion? Does this kind of sound comes when there is Bendix or Pinion issue ? Please let me know. Timing chain and alternator belt was replaced at 85000kms . Current odometer reading is 118000kms. Thanks.
So mine does the same noise but not as loud and only in the beginning, Once it starts idling normal it makes a little clunky noise I was wondering if that's the same problem or a Polley bearing perhaps 🤔?
Having this problem too. Drove yesterday and my car kept having weird things happen such as stalling or losing complete power to the battery. Thinking the Mechanic that first thought my starter went screwed something up when it was initially just bad connection terminals.
Bro so my car makes this same sound but it doesn’t stop at all while it’s running. Any advice? I added a new belt tensioner and alternator and battery. My belt is still too loose maybe?
@reese373 Thank you. I guess I'm weird. I speak with clear thoughts, complete sentences, and proper grammar, which seems to be getting rarer all the time. How anyone thought I was being patronizing in my comment on Brian's video completely escapes me; but then I'm the weird one. I simply commented that Brian is respectful regardless how knowledgeable his audience is with mechanical things. Maybe being respectful is not vogue these as exemplified by the political left. I guess I like being weird.
I replaced alternator and got a new battery! I also just put on the drive belt pulley and tensioner and changed transmission fluid and also my solenoid B and C and I literally just got this noise ?? What could it be
I feel my belt is too tight & does squeels at start up & does this exact noise when I Start moving at red lights at times... things I did, I change timing chain tensioner turn crankshaft pulley both ways & noise started, had belt changed by a mechanic & idk what to do now 😂💔
My belt squeals on startup and periodically while I drive. I keep adjusting the power steering belt because it was looser, but now that it is tight I am going to adjust the alternator belt. Does it make any difference that it doesn't just squeal on startup?
Thanks for pointing that out. In truth, ANY rotating member of the powertrain deprived of it's orderly function and lubrication will in fact scream when coerced onward against it's disinclination to do so. The alternator belt being loose is by far the most common cause however.
@@briansmobile1 Yes, I though mine sounded the same, but actually it's different now that I compare. Mine was making a sound like that at start, but not starting or cranking usually, sometimes could get it going. Found out it's likely a bad starter. Pump seems unrelated.
After 11 years of ownership on my mk4 Jetta I simply cleaned all the battery earth to car body and bell housing and no more lazy battery starts or starter motor squeals
BRO, I HAVE SPENT WAY TOO MUCH TIME TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THIS WAS!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!
Welcome Dustin!
Omg that sounds like ah freaking HORROR movie! Lol wasn’t expecting that type of sound wow.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
perfect, direct short and simple route to solving the problem without spending any cash!! thanks alot!
Man i laughed so hard on that 1st sound 😂😂😂😂
I can’t stop laughing 😭
lol thought I was watching a horror movie

Awesome video! Straight to the point. Love it. It helped me out as i did have exactly that sound and had no idea how serious it is. Thank you!
ga damn that scream
I FINALLY FOUND THE VIDEO
IVE BEEN LOOKING VIDEO AFTER VIDEO FOR THIS SAME NOISE AND I DONT KNOW WHAT IT IS
Thank you! That's exactly the noise my car is making. Glad it's an easy fix.
@WasabiMeal YES! Too tight will kill the bearings on the alternator. GOOD QUESTION!
When I worked on cars for a living, my policy was this: If I find tools under your hood that the last tech left behind, they become my tools.
Just give them to the car owner unless they give them to u
Thank u! This is a quick and easy to understand video. Being a woman and wants to fix my car on my own , this is a big help because i’m not about to pay $$ on bringing my car to the shop. Lol
U need to be in the kitchen or laundry room not under the hood
@@CapDcomini can do that too. Nobody is hindering you to do what you can or can’t do so you dont have to make ignorant comments like that.

The battery terminal ring was split. The vice-grips were holding it together.
Great explained so easy with no drama pat

@nd318865 Nope. Chuck Testa! It was just covered in oil leak goo from the valve covers.
@isnasucks Right on- thanks for your comments. I see a lot of fun ones here! I'm crack'n up! You guys are funnier than I am for sure!

I think the glove covered vice grips on the battery terminal are an added feature on the Ford Rangers LOL!!

Made me think of the 2012 Camry hybrid I just test drove last weekend. No belts on the engine. Electric water pump. Technology.
Life saver!
@HondaCivic7thGe Thanks
Lmao this answered my question exactly 😭
Gonna try this out tomorrow for my sisters car
if you have many belts and cant tell witch one is slipping just touch the pullys if ones really hot thats the one thats slipping

wb if you changed ur alternator and still get the squel over and over again after u tighten the bracket
Having this problem too. Drove yesterday and my car kept having weird things happen such as stalling or losing complete power to the battery. Thinking the Mechanic that first thought my starter went screwed something up when it was initially just bad connection terminals.
What if belt is doing this - but has auto tensioner and new belt plus new alternator and crank pully ????
Is it bad if there is a screech?
0:28 lol... funny guy Brian
Oka so I have a auto tensioning belt. It’s kinda loose so I got a new belt, didn’t get tighter. But the sound is constant. Any ideas??
Demand on Alternator Belt.Slip.Tighten belt bolt on top.
Good man...
My old truck makes that sound and doesn't start. Still the belt or the starter?
I installed a new alternator and now the belt squeals for 1 second at first startup of the day. The rest of the day quiet. Any ideas?

my 09 mustang does this but its less noisy than that. is the fix the same?
I have this problem!!!! Would that cause the EPC light to come on? It just started happening.
I looks like the belt on the alternator has teeth on it...possibly a timing belt being reused?
Yep did it today
Awesome

@@UnicornRyder04 It quieted down until it rained, so I have left it alone. I am trying to figure out where it is leaking ATF! :)
Totally thought he was trolling at first lol , I was like no way his car made that scream
Only the morning what if happens throughout the day?
This can also cause a premature wear to the belt ya?
Hahahahahahahhaha!!! That was soo loud!!!
Did it kill your battery also? Or does that mean that it fried my alternator?
I think this can be a sign of other problems... I had this happen days after getting a low coolant alarm, which is likely due to a bad coolant pump.
