The thing is, James Gunn has already proven that you can take even the most obscure characters and still make a great movie. Morbius's issue wasn't the fact that they picked characters barely anyone knows anything about; it was the fact that they didn't go all in and embrace the concept. Sony always makes this mistake.
Saw this movie with my cousin and we both said it felt like the movie missed a big part of its own story with delving deeper into the struggle of needing to kill others to survive. It would've been an interesting character dive if they committed to that dilemma but alas, another movie decides that a PG13 rating is worth sacrificing potential story telling.
After watching it other movie goers said 'it was a Marvel movie' and I feel that summed it up pretty well.
They do well with Spidey because light comedic PG-13 is natural environment for him.
Can't really produce a horror drama the same way uh.

The CGI looks like it is from the early 2000's, not gonna lie. When I was in theaters watching this, I felt like I had wasted my time. Poorly made movie aside, I really liked the Venom movies! It really created a almost perfect mix between action and horror in Marvel's own way. Morbius was trying to just be a horror movie with a PG-13 rating limit which created a mediocre experience for the viewers as mentioned in the video. In conclusion, I think the Venom series deserves more credit.

Fun fact: Jared Leto used crutches everywhere he went to remain in character during shooting. It took so long for him to go to the bathroom with crutches that they gave him a wheelchair to speed things up. This guy takes his roles way too seriously.

Speak for yourself, Calendar man is the second most compelling and complex villain in all of DC history and I would love to see a movie that goes really in depth into his origins, how his parents made him evil, and his obsession with dates.
You might think these would put him in first place, but when you have a masterpiece like the Condiment King it's really not even close.

An ex special forces or assassin or whatever wants to live a quiet life as a cook/teacher or whatever but is dragged into a violent criminal world when his (relative/wife/dog or whatever) is (kidnapped/killed etc) I will need 200 million dollars to realise my dream.

For backstory purposes, Morbius was created during a time when The Comics Code ban on horror comics was being relaxed, so Marvel kind of hedged its bet with a non-supernatural vampire. Morbius has been in and out of comics limbo a few times, and was even cured for about a decade. Not a bad character, but not one who's ever held his own series for any length of time.

In his arrogance and desire to help his friend, Morbius quickly fashions enough of a cure for one person, selflessly gives the cure to Mylo (without testing it properly because time is against them) and unintentionally causes this evil transformation in his friend. Mylo vanishes and Morbius is left alone.
Weeks later, Morbius (in much worse condition) sees these bloodless corpses showing up across New York city and finds out that it's Mylo, drunk with power and rage.
Morbius then takes it upon himself to try and stop his monstrous creation.
He manages another cure with lessened effects but still suffers the blood lust... he literally makes himself this way to save everyone else, regardless of his own life. He drinks animal blood to survive.
The problem is that Mylo is physically stronger because of the more potent cure he was given.
Morbius fights Mylo but gets battered in the first fight and *insert good friend character here* is fatally hurt in the crossfire.
Morbius then realises it's not the cure that made Mylo stronger, it's the human blood he's been drinking.
Morbius needs real human blood to increase his strength.
*insert friend character here* offers their own blood since they are dying anyway (mirroring Morbius saving Mylo but through selflessness and sacrifice, not impatience and arrogance). Morbius reluctantly accepts and drains the friend, tears flowing as the blood does.
Morbius, now fully charged, beats Mylo because of course he does, but the movie ends teasing his villainous future, since he's has now had human blood.
Maybe while a Morbius narration monologues about saving the city, more drained corpses are showing up but it's never clarified who's responsible, and Morbius is smiling, more content and healthier looking than before.
Oh yeah and R RATED all the way!
Just an idea. Came up with it in a few minutes. Still better than the movie.

I'd happily try to write the story with scenes, beats, character motivations and story arcs. That's it though haha!

That's actually pretty good. Even sets up rivalries with Blade, Spidey, Punisher... basically anyone who would disapprove of vampire-themed mass murder, while leaving it open which side ends up being in the right.

I think he got like 2 episodes in the fox spiderman cartoon, that makes him the biggest character that they haven't ruined yet.

Definitely didn't, but as the Drinker pointed out and like many things that tank at the Box Office, there was an idea buried in here that better writers could've done something with.

Why is he even part of the sinister 6? Was he, originally? I don't remember who was. Vulture definitely, and that's it. Never read the comics just watched the great 90s cartoon show. ACTUALLY Cartoons since I liked the futuristic follow-up to Spider-Man The Animated Series, what was it called, Ultimate Spider-Man? Spider-Man Unlimited? I can't remember. Not the bad CGI one that a lot of people didn't mind. JUST LOOKED IT up, Spider-Man Unlimited only lasted one season, that's a shame. I liked it. I mean, even as a kid I knew it was leagues worse than the previous series, but it had interesting powers and could have gone places.
I laughed. I cried. Morbius had morbaids but fixed it by getting bitted by bats. Brilliant.

Morbius was one of my favourite Bronze-Age comic characters. Sad to hear the movie messes up such an interesting idea; Morbius' friendship with Spider-Man was interestingly handled in the comics.
Don't go by this review, check it out, I was also a Morbius comic fan and I thought it was pretty solid. Not great but not bad either.

This is Hollywood. Comics are low on the media pecking order unless they think they can make a live-action movie (the "important" media format) out of it. I doubt anyone involved read a Morbius comic or even saw him in the 90s Spider-Man show. (Cartoons are low on the pecking order as well.)
Honestly, they should instead just give Blade a decent CGI-workover and re-release it.
Simple as that.
I'd love that personally especially since the first movie is my favorite out of the trilogy.
@CLB Ronin This was Sony, Blade is currently owned by Marvel/Disney and iirc it was somebody like New Line Cinema that owned the movie rights twenty years ago which is exactly how we got those R rated Blade movies...

He's great. Remember how good he was in Terminator Genisys despite having like two scenes featuring in one of the worst movies in recent memory? That tells you a lot. Yet sadly there's a lot of actors who just get into a rut of bad luck when it comes to the movies they're in. Boyd Holbrook was amazing in Logan and Narcos but all it took was being the face of trash like The Predator and I can't think of the next good thing he was even in.

You know, I actually loved the 'bad' CGI scene from Blade back when I first saw it. It was around 1999 I suppose, and I was 12.
I still think it's a great movie.
I enjoyed Blade when it came out and have watched it over the years.
Blade gave us the quote "Some motherfu**ers are always trying to ice skate up hill" and the FIRST BLACK MARVEL SUPERHERO ON FILM - suck it Black Panther!

Blade created the standard for flaming bone vampires that Buffy & others copied. That clip main villain being cut in half looked some much cooler on a small screen, with Blade in front doing his power ranger stance while the villain pulls himself back together again to become the Blood God.

Went with friends, even knowing it was going to be terrible, and the theater wasn't empty empty in my case. The review probably helps explain why the movie was so odd, it was too hard to hate but nothing really to love. Overall kind of forgettable and a dead end as he put it.
