I use a Framon as well. I cut mine .010” deeper. I also widen the cut to accommodate the blunt tip Kwikset pins. In addition I cut the last crest at the tip so it’s even with the others. Most bump keys that are sold have that crest higher than the others.

I had a set of bump keys and just duplicated them. I also had a master punch machine I could make them with... I used to be a locksmith.

You left out a key component, unless I missed it. You have to either offset all of the cuts, or, more commonly, cut the shoulder back. All those little ramps are useless if you can't bump them under the pins. I've also always cut mine to below the deepest cut, but I won't argue that with you because I've never tried it at the deepest.

Harley Burton Cut back the shoulder and add a “castration ring” and it becomes a “push key” :-)

@@24hrMrLocksmith Then I would recommend bumping a push key. Lol. I didnt think terminology applied on this one. I know I'm a little lazy but I would have to hit the darn key with something before I tried to throw all the pins up by just pushing it as fast as I could. SMH

Is there anything preventing somebody from using a #7 cut and a corresponding .310 bottom pin in a residential lock? I don’t know if the drilling in residential plugs might be too shallow for this. If not, it’d be an easy way to guard against 66666 bump keys.
Conversely, would a 77777 bump key be much less effective than a 66666 for locks that don’t need the 7?

That's my favourite book. What's it called again. I haven't had to think about it for years. I'm teaching my son though.

Are you talking about thousandths of an inch? Millimeters? To be meaningful, you need to define the units you are working in.

I should never assume people know what a Bump Key is. The problem is when I explain too much people say “get to the point” or “don’t talk too much.”
I have a few videos showing the bump opening a lock. Go to my Chanel and so have several videos under “Bump Key”
      Hope this helps.
