- In this video I'll show you how you can make your own bump key using just a triangle file and a key blank! You can use a bump key to open almost any lock that the key is designed to fit. Be careful though... you can damage a lock this way!

try putting an appropriate size o ring as a spacer So if the key doesn't work the first time, you don't need to reset (pull out one notch) this allows you to apply pressure an keep tapping until it turns.

How do you get the correct spacing when your cuts clearly missed their marks? Were you not cutting on the marks or off to the side of them?
You don’t want to cut on those vertical lines directly or the key may break

What's the point if you have to have a key that already went to that lock?
You need a key that fits the same _type_ of lock. It doesn't have to fit that exact lock. For example, I made a bump key for a Kwikset brand lock. That bump key will also work on most other Kwisket locks that fit the same style key, even though all of the locks accept different keys.
+Karlan Meyers to simplify this. if you look at your key you will notice a tab facing to one direction. some have it to the left and some to the right. you cant make a bump key with a key that wont fit that specific style of lock is from what im getting from this

Wrong file - don't use a triangular file - use a square file.
I rather use the bump brick no body got time to file or a file or a vice or a red pen marker.
bump keys are media hyped...few break ins are as a result of bump keys. Besides, they make too much noise when hitting it.
Still good to know about but ur right learn to pick locks if u wanna have access to things bump keys r cool and simple but not reliable

I should make one for my truck so when i leave my keys in the ignition (which i have a heavy history on doing that) i wont have to call and pay a locksmith or something lol
Ha! Well in your particular case it would likely be more practical to just have an extra key made at the hardware store. Also, you can destroy a lock with a bump key so it might end up costing you even more!
I had one of those key holder combination locks with a spare key locked onto the frame under my jeep because id always lock my key in there.!saved me over a dozen times .
I also had a slim jim tucked inside the hallow of my roof rack just incase someone needed it and surprisingly people did a couple times.
People always pointed out i had something hanging under my jeep just dangling .. i told them it was my jeeps balls
