Those troublemakers didn't shorten the war one bit, but they did manage to erode support for our military enough that the Communists won, condemning the South Vietnamese to live under a bloodthirsty dictatorship to this day. We thought we were fighting communism but we were fighting people who were fighting to be independent of what most of them saw as an imperialist foreign power. We were succeeding the French in the eyes of the Vietnamese. The Vietnamese have a long history of being dominated by bigger outside powers. The Chinese, the French. Our war there to them was continuation of giant powerful countries robbing them of self determination. That war was known to be lost years before the political elite admitted it. Look up Nixon secret talks, when he was a candidate in 68, with the south Vietnamese government about extending the war if they pulled out of the 68 peace talks with the LBJ administration. Don't conflate the Likud with worldwide Jewry. The Likud can barely cobble together a majority within Israel, but Israel is, unfortunately, gripped in the same minority-rule spiral as far too many other countries - like Brazil, Hungary, Russia, Belorus (and very possibly soon) the United States. I'm pretty sure that most Jews across the world are just as horrified of Israel's treatment of Palestinian civilians as the rest of the civilized world. However, conflation of the two allows for any criticism of the activities of the State of Israel to be falsely framed as anti-Semitism, which is just the kind of fuel this authoritarian, minority-rule turn needs to smoulder more widely across the world. While resistance to that conflation is not always easy, especially for non-Jewish allies who support a homeland for the Jews, a resulting turn towards authoritarianism cannot possibly be good for anyone, least of all the Jews themselves.

      @JacobMoretti-NotABot Před 13 dny +8

      @@SuperTrues Could be a good point - I’d need more details. But I think there are still some pretty profound differences between those conflicts and Israel/Palestine. There’s a strong case that the creation of Israel, which was indisputably a real catastrophe for the local Palestinian population, was a grave injustice, in part made possible by racist beliefs that led the West to ignore the impact of displacing local Arabs. There’s also clear evidence that Israel has been a bad actor since Netanyahu came to power (continued settlement expansion, strengthening Hamas at the expense of the PLO, human rights violations against Palestinians). The plight of the Palestinians is one that spans generations and is one that people have been aware of for a long time. Also the Palestinians are a largely occupied and weaker power. Those other conflicts don’t have this particular dynamic. Finally Israel is a democracy. All these things heighten the sense of injustice felt for the Palestinians. Anti-Semitism is surely playing a role in the magnitude of protests, but nonetheless should there be protests against what the Israeli government is doing and the US’s role - yes, I believe.

    I remember when I used to think Scott Galloway had something interesting to say. Is it possible that instead of using how "white" or how "rich" people are to identify who the oppressors between Israel and Palestine are students are simply comparing the respective body counts? Since October 7th, just under 1,500 Israeli's have been reported killed. In the same period, over 34,000 Palestinians have been killed. But you think that the students have unfairly labeled the Israelis as the oppressors because they are Jewish or because they have lighter skin? Give you head a shake. Or maybe students are identifying the oppressors by looking at which side is building walls to confine the other to smaller and smaller areas resulting in what human rights groups are calling a new instance of apartheid. Saying that Israel is doing something bad is NOT a statement of support for Hamas and criticizing Israel's conduct in their prosecution of this conflict is NOT anti-Semitism. Like Hamas's 2017 "amendment" to its charter - which amendment notably fails to rescind the 1988 charter's genocide declaration, NSJ includes their own definitions of things like "intifida," "from the river to the sea," etc. While that may sound acceptable on the surface, lack of consistency with terminology - esp. trigger terms and phrases - further divides already divided groups, as Galloway correctly notes at the end of the interview, beginning at 348s.

      This idiot professor doesnt realize that the ''social engineering'' he just mentioned has been going on for decades- and he is part of it. The protestors are trying to deprogram the damage him and his cult have done.

    Smerconish might need to realize that abortion rights are important issues, but those concerns happen over time and circumstance. The genocide in Palestine is happening in your face and in the present. It will go down in history as one of the most blatant genocides that have happened since the Vietnam war in Cambodia.

      They are pointing out the critical difference between supporting Israel and supporting the Gaza Palestinians: - - - the stated goal of Hamas is to kill all Jews.

      Funny, I bet when you find your preferred media that spews pro-Hamas anti-Israel (which IS antisemitic) nonsense, you are not similarly interest in balance.

      The news segment is explicitly labeled as “commentary.”By definition and by design it’s his opinion. You can say that you don’t agree with his opinion, but it’s an invalid argument to say that CNN is somehow trying to hide that this reporting is an opinion piece. They’re being very transparent and labeling the genre for you. That’s like reading Harry Potter (genre : fantasy) and complaining how outrageous it is for JK Rowling to make up a bunch of magic.

    Scott Galloway should learn about Dylan roof and the fallout. There were tons of Confederate flags and marches in support of naming academic buildings after white supremacists and Confederates. There are tons of articles documenting this.

    Wow, Scott Galloway went to the NYU campus and, I assume, the Columbia campus, counted the number of similar tents and calculated that 40% of the NYU tents were similar to the Columbia tents? Then he used this "clue" to support coordination of the groups and that it hinted at a non-organic origin? Uh . . .sure.
