Great video, I like the way you present your arguments, very clear and precise. How ever I just want to clarify something that confuse me for a second. I live in Latin America, so when you were talking about the Kobo and the inconvenience of region and then you mentioned Canada it was confusing. Canada is also in America, were I live is in America as well, because it's part of the same continent. You should say United States so it's more clear for people living outside USA.

Not sure if you know this - I only found it recently myself - if you go into settings you are able to make the book cover fill the entire screen when used as wallpaper. Makes it look so much better IMO

Thank you SO MUCH for this. I'm in Canada and wondering which reader to get. This is exactly what I needed. Also, I prefer to support Chapters Indigo over Amazon and would like to take advantage of library e-books, so this made choosing the Kobo very easy. THANK YOU!
Awesome video, good layout
Kobo Clara is so much lighter and portable due to its size. Kobo's have a very clear lay out of exactly which page out of the entire book and chapter you're on. You can adjust the backlight instantly with the scroll on the left side on the Kobo screen which is SO convenient and one of the best features on it. Kindle PW5 on the other hand, although it is a light device, when compared with the Clara HD it does feel chunkier. I found it frustrating to know which page I'm on and can't get a good sense out of where I am in the book. Maybe this is just me, but I like the minimalistic approach on the Kobo's.
Amazon really punched Kobo in the gut buying Goodreads. God I hate Amazon lol. They cut every corner because they know they can give you reasons it's hard to leave. It's true, having Goodreads built-in is so nice...
Right? Their ecosystem is hard to beat. I hope another brand can build something just as good. Thanks for watching! 🙏🏽

Well, it would be a smart move for Kobo to buy StoryGraph and implement it in their readers. It’s much better than Goodreads and the design doesn’t feel decades old. I would quite like that :)
I looked up on website for Readwise and Kobo they do allow import highlights now! BTW, love your channel!

Perfect size in my palm, easy to hold and carry anywhere. Overdrive is a game changer! It's so easy to borrow books now and I couldn't be happier! Thank you brother for sharing your videos! 3:22 there is a setting for that in kindle as well... when in sleep mode it shows the cover of the book you're reading currently.. I use it (but I keep a kindle cover, so :D )
Is it possible to have your own books bought in other shops in Kobo? But I don't mean to transfer them via USB but does Kobo have somethng like "Send to Kindle" in Kindle? I would like to have access to the same books on an e-reader, a phone etc.
When testing out the Kobo, have you experimented with importing books as epub files and Calibre, or sideloaded apps on the Kobo?
I'm not saying this because I think it will change your mind, I'm mostly asking because I'm very curious about it and I can't find any good videos about what you can do using the easy sideloading/moding on Kobo

I use a Kobo, can buy books anywhere and in any format i like and put it in my kobo, + loan in the libery direct, Kindle is to locked down for me.. Only is what i feel Kobo Clara HD is litle to small, so will step up a sitze to Libra or Forma soon...

Kindle is also soo popualr in ireland and the Uk
Canada. My deal-maker/-breaker is library access. Game, set, and match to Kobo.
Will buy Kobo. In Canada the Kindle will not allow borrowing books from the Library. That is my primary reading source and need.
I came from kobo h2o to kindle paperwhite signature edition (arrived yesterday) and reading quality is better on kindle

My biggest issue with Kobo is that they lack cloud services. I only buy books with no DRM and sideload them. And there is no way I can sync these across multiple Kobos or Kobo app on my phone. It’s very inconvenient. But I ended up using Kobo anyway, because Kindle does have cloud, but it’s always buggy, one time books don’t show covers, next time they miss author names… And on top of that I really hate flush screens. If Kobo had cloud, I would have a perfect reader.
Wait, kindle has collections. You can build collection (bookshelves in other apps) of any books you think belong together, really nice when you have hundreds of books on kindle.

I personally don't use screen protectors for anything. I do like to use a sleep cover, though!
Well I’m in Australia and our kindles aren’t allowed to have ads due to our strict consumer laws. so ours is just non ads for all of the kindles :) the ads do look annoying

CONS:
-can't organize by file name/folders
-clumsy highlighting
-screen taps not very responsive(often have to tap twice)
-usb B port, slow charge
-works but not well for PDFs
PROS:
-easily side load epubs.
-no ads/no ecosystem lock
-8gb is a TON of space. Thousands of epubs.
-good screen, adjustable warm
-different fonts, sizes, spacing
-built in dictionary easy to use
-built in Overdrive/Libby
-light, comfortable, sturdy
-there are nice inexp cases for it, with auto sleep/hand strap/kickstand!
-good battery life(1-2wks)
-secret built in sketch pad
-it goes on sale for $89.99(2022)
Great bang for the buck in my opinion.
Kobo is great for borrowing books from the library.

Does your country offer Kindle Unlimited? I don’t know where you live, but hearing your accent I think you live in the USA? Can you please make a video about what kind of ebooks we can get in Kindle Unlimited? I live in Netherlands, we have Kobo Plus but not Kindle Unlimited. But if our Dutch Amazon does offer Kindle Unlimited in the future, I will consider buying a Kindle

I will have to look into Kindle Unlimited. It is offered in America, but I never used it. I don't read enough books to warrant a subscription like that. But I never researched it so maybe I'm mistaken!

one more deal breaker for me is to be able to email document to Kindle using a dedicated address. I do it from my iPhone if something is too long and want offline reading. Why is it so hard for Kobo to implement.

Kobo cannot be worse than Kindle because Kindle has no customer service.

Yes and viceversa, but you need to strip the DRM and convert the books.
Margins are so much better on Kobo, you can have no margins or huge margins and of course everything in between. Margins on Kindle are just too big and you only get 3 choices, such a waste of screen space.
