  • Today, I’m going to be removing my FiTech EFI and installing the all new Edelbrock Pro Flo 4 EFI system.
    You can get the Edelbrock Pro-Flo 4 here: amzn.to/2yCkAyk
    The Edelbrock Pro Flo 4 Electronic fuel injection system has a great installation guide that I encourage everyone who is installing this system to look through. But the step by step of the installation is:
    00:00 - Installation Introduction
    01:36 - Remove throttle body and intake manifold
    01:46 - Clean heads for ProFlo 4
    02:51 - Install the Wide Band O2 sensor
    03:25 - Test fit the Intake, Throttle Body and all wiring and harnesses
    04:31 - Put a bead of RTV on intake heads
    04:38 - Install Pro Flo 4 intake and throttle body
    04:48 - Tighten intake bolts to around 20ftlbs
    04:53 - Install Distributor
    06:28 - Wire up all the wires
    07:42 - Spark Plug wires
    07:48 - Air Cleaner Sensor
    08:09 - Fuel Pressure regulator
    Now if only it were really that easy, haha!

    I installed the Pro Flo 4 on my 1970 GTO Judge. Sequential port EFI is the game changer here. Throw all the throttle body systems and carburetors away and install this kit. Plus the software and tablet interface is far superior to the other companies at this price point. I have a 4 speed and the throttle response and mixture quality is perfect. Install new spark plugs and be amazed at how perfectly even they look after running with this system. My car can idle and cruise now at a much leaner mixture. Watch for the article in a future issue of Hot Rod magazine with my car.

      Ive installed many kits at work, the FiTech are junk every one we've installed came back with injectors failing. The Sniper we've never had a single one come back and they run pretty good. For my truck how ever I am looking at this as if I did fuel injection swap I want sequential fuel injection.
      Problem I keep running into is I have a C6 and ive yet to find a kit that offers a Ford Kickdown hook up to retain the kick down rod. Many talk about doing a cable conversion but that is just tacky in my eyes since youll need so much cable slack to ensure the kick down only engages fully at wide open throttle. The other problem I keep running into is no one at holley or edelbrock can tell me if a OE factory cruise control can pull the throttle open. I don't think vacuum operated cruise control will work on the sniper as those are quite stiff.
      Not sure on the edelbrock, and I already have a performer intake, 1" phenolic spacer, and a 600cfm summit carb. Hate to spend $1300 on more parts if they wont work in the first place.

    Nice video, and it was good to see you get it sorted out. I just got one of these for my ride, and read all the instructions carefully first (twice) and laid it all out on the floor to make sure everything was here and the connectors were working. I haven't installed it yet, but I see that a lot of the problems you had with initial install were addressed in the instructions (fuel pump, valve covers off when seating manifold, etc.) - I don't know if they have been added since your install, but advice for guys buying one of these, all EFI systems have lots of sensors and the setup is super important, so read up and play with it before you get down to the down and dirty install. I had to study up on some terms I didn't know and I'm doing youtube research now (hello!), and now I'm feeling pretty confident about the install. I used to install stuff before reading the instructions - sometimes was lucky and sometimes not. But this electronic stuff is not nuts and bolts, and if you have problems, tech support is going to ask you if you did this and that, and will send you to fix it and have you call them back after. As an old fart who has spent many hours scratching my head at problems I have created, I can say it's worth the extra time! Thanks for making this video, and to the folks that think it's a waste of money, just price a great 1000 cfm carb, a performance manifold, a digital ignition controller and a distributor and compare that to the Edelbrock kit, because you get all that, the whole system, in the box. I've found that off the shelf carbs are never perfect, and you have to have a dyno and a drawerful of jets to tune a carb to run as well as EFI. To each his own, but this kit ain't a waste of money!!! And it's made in USA!!!

    • @714638
      @714638 Před 5 lety

      @@williamwright6157 just a single tank, the mechanical fuel pump supplies fuel to a sump and an electrical fuel pump inside brings the pressure up to 52 psi and then fills the fuel rails. This also prevents sending air to the injectors which can happen when fuel is sloshing around in the tank.

    I did the holley efi and it was alot cheaper than the eldelbrock system. I used the procomp 351w efi intake and fuel rails , aeromotive regulator , I bought the universal holley wiring kit , and holley efi throttle body . All said and done I had a little over 1800 in the system . I was able to reuse my msd distributor , I had to synchronize the distributor which was a pita . The best feature is all the upgrades and support with holley vs eldelbrock in my opinion.

    Sounds like a lot of your issues came from trying to marry FiTech parts to the Edelbrock system. Those of us going with a virgin install would most likely avoid many of those issues. Totally digging the fuel rail system vs. the TBI. FiTech was always putting off getting their fuel rail setup on the market.
    I am currently running an Edelbrock Performer Air Gap and Edelbrock 650 carburetor. The entire system will get pulled and replaced with a new fuel tank with an in tank fuel pump and new lines. I definitely see an Edelbrock ProFlo XT in my future.

But you had mentioned that the pro flo uses the negative side to switch on/off. This sounds like I could have the problem you did with the fitech unit not shutting off. Can you elaborate more on how you wired into the pro flo with the relay?

A suggestion for anyone working on engines, a smoke machine. One of the first things I did on the stand after the ProFlow 4 install was smoke tested my intake for intake sealing issues. I just built a 400 SBF stroker going in an 83 Bronco. I decided to go with the Edlebrock Proflow 4. Biggest problem with fitech is the ecu is mounted to the throttle body. As you know computers and heat do not like each other. It's a cool for crusing car shows and what not but cross the country reliability just is not their.

    • @NashvilleEarlyBronco
      @NashvilleEarlyBronco  Před 4 lety

      Hey Larry! The vacuum from the engine tells the regulator when to add in more fuel because of acceleration. Kind of like the cars that had vacuum running to the distributor for the same reason

    I personally like the holley system better. I have the terminator tbi which uses a Holley HP ecu. Better firmware and laptop software. More tuneable, modular and upgradable. Aslo what i dont like about the pro flow is that it uses a single plane intake wich gives up a ton of low speed torque for a little high speed H.P. out at 7000 rpm. Not great for a street car or a truck.

    Those are nice but I would have to invest in a 6 speed transmission first. Without a good overdrive transmission the mpg benefits of EFI won’t really shine. I’ve never had a problem daily driving a carb engine or starting them. It’s the old 3 speed auto transmissions that drive me nuts! Lol
    I’ve drove my old Chevy C10 in Nashville traffic many times. The carb was never the problem, it’s the screaming RPMs trying to run with modern traffic lol. Nashville is a nascar track lol 😂

I guess what I am saying before jumping into this do research on what parts are needed, and check if the parts are correct, and follow instructions to the T...this video is nearly useless, your basically saying I know nothing about this setup or what's expected.. it's like taking one step forward and 5 steps backwards.
