- While I was vacationing in Chicago, me and my brother saw and took the Flxible Metro-B bus for a short ride. This bus has the Detroit Diesel 6V92TA with the auto 3 speed Allison V-731 ATEC transmission. All of the 1991's 40ft Flxible Metro-B buses #5300 series have been retired as of January of 2009.

First rode this in the spring of 1992, on the 28 Stony Island route, when I was a 7 years old. It was refreshing seeing those black and blue felt seats and feeling that AIR CONDITIONING 🙌🏾
I will miss the bus
I miss these beasts
thats a mean sounding flx right there!
Deep 6V92TA. 17 years of service. RIP.
Yeah, I know. Plus, they sounded like my 1992-1993 New Flyer D40HF #3000-3120 series...
***** Which agency?
DDOT Detroit Department of Transportation.
***** I forgot they had D40's then.
Yeah, they had those D40HFs before they were retired and scrapped in 2005. The info on www.detroittransithistory.info/Roster/DDOT-retired.html will tell you more.
Here in Atlanta MARTA retired in late 2002 to early 2003, and Cobb Community Transit retired theirs in 2005. It was better when MARTA had those 8V71 Neoplans and the Flxible Metros, but now MARTA won't be the same now that the old buses are gone. RIP Old MARTA Buses!
I spotted an old Flxible being used as a work bus a few weeks ago in Skokie.
Baul104, I'll tell you what, its been difficult for years in Michigan to find an Flxible Metro bus since 2002 when Lansing CATA retired their 1988-1990 Flxible Metros, and Ann Arbor AATAs (Cant remember when theirs retired, but 2 Michigan cities left current for Flxible Metros are:
Kalamazoo (Metro Transit) 1994 Flxible Metros
Muskegon (MATS) 1993 Flxible Metros
Not sure when theirs would retiring. But I loved the Lansing CATA and Kalamazoo's better.
we got rid of our Flxi janks back in late-2003
the 1991 flxible metro b adb from Chicago transit authority with the 6v 92 TA Detroit diesels with the v731 Allison automatic transmission in that bus is freaking awesome than the Cummins L10 diesel or caterpillar or dd series 50 engine with voith or ZF 500 automatic transmission any day
Just northwest of Chicago. The CTA is putting in a new train station in Skokie and I think it was headed to the construction site. Not sure what exact year the Flxible was though.
