- 1980 Flxible 870B NJ Transit bus 1596
EX NYCTA 401 Detroit Diesel 6V71 with an Allison V730 transmission
This is a NJTHC Bus taking a short trip around Lakewood bus terminal NJ. Bus is being operated by Anthony C. from the NJTHC - Auta a dopravní prostředky
This bus reminds me of the ones Jefferson Parish Transit had purchased in both the 1982 Grumman version and the 1984 Flxible Metro B models with the same motor sound.
Ahh that sweet Detroit music I remember the 870s and Metros from Baltimore back in the day!
And the rts.
Still my favorite transit style bus
I believe that 1596 was in at the Atlantic City garage back in the 80s through 2000 it was on the 501 through the 509 lines also 552 through the 559 full service lines and back in 1997 the nj transit buses moved in to the egg harbor township garage and they demolished the Atlantic City municipal bus terminal in the same year to make room for future construction and it's unsafe for customers and employees of nj transit then the next bus terminal was at Atlantic and Michigan avenues instead of the one at Arctic and Arkansas Avenues wich was demolished and we are at Atlantic and Ohio avenues since 2004
1596 was once at the Hilton Garage….
This was the bus that we were supposed to have for mass transit here in NYC in the early 80's. The one that had the A frame issues from Grumman? It's a beautiful & timeless looking bus on the outside, looked GREAT in the old NYC MTA livery and logo. It seemed to have much more torque and speed than the GMC RTS (not a fan) that succeeded them too.
I miss these buses ❤
Me too ✋️
Man, they don't build them like this anymore.😢
Brings back lots of childhood memories for sure! That old Detroit sounds great!
Yep I definitely miss seeing these on the roads. That's for sure.
Jefferson Parish had them in the 1980's.
@@lesliemiros6743 So did Santa Cruz Metropolitan Transit District (SC MTD) in Santa Cruz County, California until 1998.
Some of the MTD's Grumman/Flxible 870 buses were former Santa Monica Municipal Bus Lines (now the Big Blue Bus) 40 foot models built in 1980 that were used alongside the MTD's 1979 35 and 40 footer 870s.
They had the 8 cylinder version of the Detroit Diesel 71-series drive engine (8V71TAE) with the Allison V730 transmission.
They were tuff as nails though I would love to own or at least drive one.
My god these NJ Transit styles were my favorite. My childhood memories. Honestly I like the NJ Transits better then PA’s SEPTA’s
YEAH I DEF MISS THESE AND THE RTS BUSES IN NJ AND NY
I remember this ones in San Juan too from 1987 thru 1998, 1980 Grumman Flxible 870 Ex New York City Transit
Great video!
Awesomeness video!!
Houston Metro had them also in 1985.
Nice video
Oid scrtd have this bus all 230 bus back in the day and I used to right on these buses to school back in the 80s
And la Metro have the buses in till 2003 when it was RTD and it became natural they were tired all retired from service
Another thing….. times are definitely changing because I don’t remember these Flxibles sounding like that
THEY ALL HAVE A FEW DIFFERENT ENGINES THEY COULD PUT IN THEM
THANKS FOR CHECKING OUT MY VIDEO!
