Your efforts behind this competitive series is appreciated. So thank you for that. Your take an this Cabasse speaker ( which I assume is an entry level to their speaker line ) makes me wonder what moving up the chain of their offerings gives you. Looking forward to your final take.

Hello Terry, great job as usual. I think you now need a vacation after the series finale! At the outset of the Mega Test announcement, it was these Cabasse speakers which had me tuning in just waiting and waiting for your take on these as I found that three way design most visually compelling. So of course these just had to be last :)

Is the yamaha a-s 701 a warm sounding amplifier to pairing with the mc 170? If not up to 800 euros you could suggest 2 warm / soft amplifiers.

Very good review...i am adding this after having seen ( and eagerly appreciated) all your previous reviews... but still there is a missing piece to these comparisons. Meaning ELAC in the meantime has just release their Uni-Fi 2.0 the UB52..a three way speaker loudspeaker also in the price range you are reviewing: Might as well be possible you will add those in the group? Really think that would make your project even more exhaustive. As it is you are a great guy, old chap. Greetings from italy

I did contact elac they didn't get back to me. This is the end of the group test otherwise it would go on forever. I dont think anyone else has done something this big before and once I put out the conclusion video you can see where all the speakers sits and the elac will only slot themselves in between one or other of the speakers in this test as none of them are perfect and you have to choose what fits you best

  • @petethegreekre

Heard them today. Out of 11 bookshelf speakers and then the same model (11) as floor standing, these were definitely the ones that jumped out at me. That's how I ended up being here. This and the Dali Oberon 7 stood out with the Dali being a little cleaner and dialled down but not boring. I have no idea though. Today is the first time I have been to a shop and listened to several pairs. If you're like me and have no clue. Then just go to a shop and listen.

The timing issue you mention came to mind when I saw the high end design here. Most manufactures that make coaxial drivers (Elac, KEF, etc) place the tweeter on the dustcap/voicecoil of the mid driver to ensure proper timing in that design. These look like they would have timing issues.

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem

The irony is that this is the most bottom of the range from the cabasse range. I've got the Cabasse MC40 Minorca book shelves and am very impressed. I've paird these with a pair of 8" sub woofers to close out the bottom end range as I find this aspect just a tad lacking in my system.

@@RanTausi To my point of view the Cabasse are better in every way, more transparent and tonally correct. There's one thing that the Klipsch were doing better imo is low level listening. At low volume the mc170 dynamics crumble and it sounds like you're listening to speakers at low volume (how surprising) whereas with the klipsch at low volume stays dynamics enough and the tuning kinda trick your brain: it still sounds somewhat lifelike but coming from further away which is somewhat enjoyable. Imaging is different but they both have their strength. at 350 euros (they were 600 when they came out but the model suffers from poor marketing and ugly design) a pair in France it's a steal you'd need to spend over a 1000 to get better and I got speakers in this category that were not as good.
