  • Can the Cabasse Antiqua MC170 compete in the sub $1000 USD speaker category??? I have always been intrigued by their unusual and unique designs. I have always known and listened to higher end products and this will be a first listen to a more affordable offering.

    Not well known in North America and yet you guys were asked to review it. Way to go. 👍

    One of the speakers I've had my eyes on. Only "con" being the dimensions. A tad big for bookshelves. Also LOVE that you guys cover low volume listening. Absolutely must and yet almost no reviewer covers it. Awesome job guys.
    Also think you missed Marantz on the amp recommendation. Tames the highs, keeps the sparkle, fleshes out the midrange.

      Thank you! You are right they are pretty big for bookshelves. You are right I missed the Marantz which would be an excellent match 👍👍

    Nice review. It would be nice to have sound demo in a future video.

    1,100CAD? Wowser... I just got a pair for €400, even €380 in black), but they were €500 origianlly, so not much more, but certainly not over the 1K CAD. I liked the presentation of the RP-600M, that I gave to my brother, hopefully will recapture that with those Cabasse. Then, I'll need to buy a sub (SVS SB-1000 pro, probably) :)

    That coaxial design is interesting, I don’t see that very often outside of the car audio end.

      Not very much use a coax design. I think we are going to start seeing more and more.

    How well does it render piano, classical, jazz, acoustic, etc (not too concerned with Rock)? Also need a deep, a 3d-ness to the stage where things are easy to place. Willing to give up absolute resolution but there has to be "enough" detail to hear overtones and micro details on instruments and voices to make them more life-like rather than merely having alot of weight. Something that gives some etheral-ness to music when that's how it's recorded is a plus. Both my Focal 807Ws and Triangle Zetas give that. The Triangle, having a small woofer image really well and have surprising depth probably from a bit more laid back mids but still sufficient and airy highs.
    Amp and dac I would use are a Keces e40 (approx 50watts) and a Topping D70s in which the combination work to give bass weight and warth to mids while still giving sufficient but fairly smooth high end extension. Thanks.

    Paul Brandt is definitely an Alberta icon! Since there's many speakers in this price range, how would you rate them? Is it your top pick?

    • @Hifyed
      @Hifyed  Před rokem +1

      In this price range I would at least consider it in my top 5. Don’t think it would be my first, however, everyone is different.

    Good review! Do you think Emotiva TA1 is a good match? Would it tame that upper end sharpness or would it make it worse ? thank you.

    • @Hifyed
      @Hifyed  Před rokem +1

      Thank you! It would match, however, if you are trying to tame upper end I don’t think it will do the trick for you. It all depends on what amp you are comparing it to.

      I like Audiolab 6000a but it doesn't have tone control and I like the Emotova's bass management

    • @Gary_M
      @Gary_M Před rokem +1

      @@abdelkhelil6629 They make it sound like the treble isn't harsh, just elevated, so tone controls would probably work well.

      Thank you for taking the time to tell us your experience with them! Your findings are right on point. With our listening and measurements they are not bright and the mids are a slightly laid back. It may give a perception of "brightness" although it is not. Thanks again and glad you found your speaker!

    Che differenza c'e' tra queste e le Cabasse Minorca MC40 che hanno le stesse dimensioni, gli stessi parametri ma costano il doppio?

    • @Hifyed
      @Hifyed  Před rokem

      Not sure the difference as I have not heard them. Cabasse has very limited distribution here Hopefully that will change someday.
