  • In the fall of 2017 when momentum around Carnivore was building, I thought it was the dumbest thing ever.
Why did I think that? My biases and belief system at the time prevented me from being open to learning new ideas!! I was being irrational. I immediately saw all the problems without considering any upsides.
Maybe you have some vegan friends who are in this same boat, and we can learn from my mistakes.

Entranced keep eating plants only if you feel good about it! In vertebrae however there is a high inverse correlation between colon size and amount of energy they get from fibrous material. Since the human colon is a joke (sizewise) we can't benefit from gras, leafs and other fiber (in any way that would have been conceiveable for our ancestors the last million years or so at least.... the value of having a bowel movement every two hours would most likely not have been obvious to them :-)
Other plant material (the sugary/starchy part) was only available in tropical region throughout the year (and even there in much more limited quantities than in todays supermarket) - and just kills most peoples liver, pankreas and makes them fat.... if you are not among them: good for you - but you will most likely discover that you are 10 or 20 years down the road. And nobody on a sugar based diet can go for a day or two without food without going awol! That would just not fly in any conceivable environment in the last 500.000 years. (Even if in your mind they were going with the seasons from the pineapple to the banana plantation and back.)
There have been several studies hinting at the necessety of meat in the human diet for decent brain function (shrunk brains in long time vegetarians that were submitted autopsy after their demise, significantly improved brain function in vegetarians when being put on a meat derived supplement scheme (acetyl-l-carnitine for example).
Lastly: I have been putting out a challenge to any vegan to beat me in 6 out 11 randomly picked real sports (and I'm not superawesome in any sport) but so far noone wanted to risk their money.

If we only increased our consumption of meat, we wouldn't have developed the stronger salivary amylase.
It's clear that both meat and plants played a role in our evolution. I think the bigger and more important question is are we healthier when we eat more plant centric or animal centric.

I think people want to belong so badly, that they latch onto almost any pretext to join a group, any group based on any shared perspective or idle interest. It’s easy and rush free to violently disagree with people online, but doing so in a group feeds it be need to be part of a dominate group.

I’m ketovore so I definitely lean more towards carnivore, and I really do try to stay open-minded, but I just don’t have the energy to sift through all the information that’s available. There are SO many studies, some more in support of plant-based, some more in support of meat-based, and filtering through all the information to find the truth can get so exhausting. So sometimes I do tend to block opposing views out because of this. Mike not sure if you remember us but you used to be our rep when you worked for Xymogen.... Jason and Cassie Kremer w/Wellness Doctor. I love this video! My sisters naturopath put her on a 30 day carnivore diet last year to help with some chronic GI issues and when she called to tell me what she was doing I flat out told her that I didn’t think it was healthy. She did it and, amazingly enough, her GI issues all improved dramatically. The next month I decided to give it a try, also for 30 days, and I’ve honestly never felt better. For me it didn’t feel maintainable, however since then I’ve done another 30 day stint and I plan to do it a couple of times per year. I’m right there with you... seems totally unhealthy with everything we know about fiber, antioxidants and nutrition in general but I can honestly say I feel my best on a
    carnivore diet.

What made me open my mind to the carnivore diet are interviews of Zsófia Clemens from the International Center for Medical Nutritional Intervention. A Hungarian clinic has years of positive outcomes with thousands of patients. Apparently leading medical journals turn down their submitted papers without explanations. When I watch what Dr. Noakes and Dr. Fettke went through, I wonder how much published material is based on financial interest rather than genuine science. I don’t know where to look for research financing that doesn’t have strings attached. I am thankful to social media even though it too must be filtered.

I tried the carnivore diet for a little over a year and i was very strict, i also included organ meats (kidney, liver and brain) bone broths and fish in the form of sardines in spring water, went full carnivore with no vegetables or fruit. But also included full cream milk and natural yogurt. And at first I also tried eating only one meal a day, but this made me feel sick because I did eat too much so after about 3 mths switched to eating 2 meals a day. For the first 6 mths I lost weight felt great and slept deeply.
Then I slowly stated gaining weight again and felt tired and drained and after another six mths I had gained back all the weight I had lost plus an extra 10 kg, could not find the energy or motivation for exercise. Basically my body crashed.
My conclusion is that people on the carnivore diet have cheat days where they consume hidden carbohydrates either unconsciously or they just lie, and that the body actually needs carbohydrates mixed with fiber, and that a balanced diet is animal/fish based with maybe 20% to 30% from vegetables, grains and fruits.

The only issue I've had with carnivore was the 9 weeks of diarrhea that seems to finally be over I hope, and the fact that my lips are peeling. I think it's probably because of all the salt that everybody keeps telling me I need to eat, so I'm going to cut back on that and see what happens.

I certainly appreciate anyone that says "I was wrong and here's why and I'm willing to learn". When you told that story about you being too critical and attacking back people that just didn't agree with you, it was a great indicator. People that are not willing to hear the argument (even if after they disagree) and just spew out words defending themselves, are not even worth talking to. And that has been one of the hardest reasons why a lot of people, even seeing the evidence, will never go carnivore--not even paleo/low carb/keto.
I have a question for you: were you able to kinda question your bias because it was a male and he was in shape (i.e. Shawn Baker)? Would you've been willing to listen if it was a woman or a non-athletic person?

    - Shawn Baker is jacked so there must be something
    - Othe people had benefits
    - It's a mistake to dismiss those anecdotes
    - Some friends improved their health on carnivore/OMAD
    - Biases get in the way of progress, we should try things before criticizing
    My humble opinion:
    - I think some people have benefits on this diet, though a lot of people seem to have a lot of problems with it: diarrhea, fatigue, hair loss, constipation... just look up a fb group of carnivores and you'll see for yourself that a lot of people experience health issues due to the diet.
    - Scientifically speaking, we should eat a bit of everything, and I don't understand why we should restrict ourselves to only eating animal products. On an evolutionary level, we evolved to digest carbs as well, so I don't get why we should avoid them.

Now I also have arthritis. The diabetes is not as bad now that I'm near ideal weight. I think my liver has improved. As of yesterday 9/13/20 I started on the "Carnivor " diet. Based on what I'm seeing on social media about carnivor, I figured I need to try it. Been struggling with low energy and joint pain from what I believe to be arthritis. I thought for sure I would be vegan for life. Now I just want to do whatever it takes to get my health back.

Now that you mention it, I've been obsessed with the relationship between diet and autoimmune flare ups. This is an interesting topic.
I suffer from hashimoto's thyroiditis and ankylosing spondylitis. In addition to having scoliosis, anxiety and depression.
    Nice combination, right?
I've seen good improvement while staying on HFLC. For a couple of weeks it was difficult for me to continue in ketosis, and after consuming junk food, the symptoms of joint inflammation, pain, fatigue, constipation and brain fog became worse and I developed something similar to psoriasis, still undiagnosed.
Even after returning to ketosis, the symptoms are driving me crazy.
I am thinking of trying the carnivorous diet hoping all this will improve.

Before you do, get a full vitamin-mineral check to see where you have deficiencies. Then research what animal parts contain those vitamins-minerals. Keep up sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium. It will help with transition.

You're right, Mike. People shouldn't be closed-minded. I won't hear any arguments about the benefits of close-mindedness. People shouldn't be close-minded. There must be no debate about it.
On the other hand, I, myself, was for a time closed-minded. I hesitate to say that I enjoyed being closed-minded. I used to let my mind wander for hours, when I was close-minded.
Thankfully, now, however, I've become open-minded. There's a lot less to think about, which is a good thing. I can just let everybody do what they want, without thinking about the consequences of their actions.

Thanks for being humble as always Mike, I have been on Keto/IF for 2 yrs and I believe that the reason more people who actually do weight training are moving towards carnivore, I am starting to increase my protein intake for now and use healthy fats so i feel full enough to stay full and manage low carbs before moving to full fledge carnivore lifestyle

I first went vegan around the time Sean Baker went on Joe rogans podcast and I hoped he would start having issues and quit. After a few years I started feeling like crap and had to quit. He’s still going strong and he’s only improved over time. I was super wrong.

Hi Mike, have you tried a high fat carnivore approach? Something around 85% fat, 15% protein (calories) One year on the carnivore diet and trying this ratios to see how I feel now. Just curious to hear your opinion, thanks!!

TY! Yes, personally that's what I feel best on and feel it's ideal for blood sugar for others, too! Higher protein cranks up glucose, in my experience.

Have been doing IF, keto for a month and now carnivore for 5 days. Over this period I have lost a few pounds. Yeah! Still, I have strong strong carb cravings from time to time. I would like to lose 15 lbs. How do I stay strong during this time of strict dietary eating/living.
Appreciate your humbleness on this video. Respect.

Mike, the more we listen to you the more we love you. You’re absolutely right...listen to both sides, all the info. Make up your own mind after listening to honest, knowledgeable people. Have you considered maybe doing a 6 month straight carnivore diet and posting changes and results along the way? We could all learn a lot from something like that, especially from someone with your credibility and mind set. Keep up the awesome work. We really appreciate your channel.

You always show up on time..I just came from the gym where I was told after nearly 2 years of vegan keto that my body fat was that of someone twice my size. I was surprised because so far I lost nearly 90 lbs. Personally, I am not a fan of meat but have been craving it like crazy lately. So maybe I will try carnivore as long as it is chicken and fish. I am still worried about fiber as my digestive system is highly sluggish. Can you do ACV and probiotics on Carnivore?

The extreme biases on both sides, whether hard core vegan or carnivore based are BOTH sooooo much better than the worst alternative - which is exactly what our (I’m American) normal diet and way of life is for the vast majority. 😢

You a brave man. I started IF and in and out keto(as for weekend is my whatever anytime I can eat kinda day) for sometimes like 5y now, I 24h water fasting for 2x a month.
I am in a good health. Hv a wee bit belly :) but nothing too alarming.i hv general check every 6 months.
I eat diverse source of food mix meat and legume( stir fried) and rice. Iam being careful for my food and I made my own bread and treats. I made tempeh and my own soap and personal toileteries too :) self reliance and less consumptive.
We learn, we grow, being humble and we evolve.
    Great job sir.
