    My gosh, this is helpful. Thank you!! Coming up on 38, (still have a very regular cycle) raising our four kiddos, and taking Ashwagandha daily was really helping me handle the stress/mental & physical load of modern day motherhood. I took myself off cold turkey due to our finances, and my lower back pain has been increasingly worse than ever before at times.
    Definitely gonna look further into DHEA, adrenoglandulars, and the sulfate testing. Really appreciate you, sir!!

  • @dchasjaz
    @dchasjaz Před 6 měsíci +5

    I always appreciate that you try to talk about upstream factors. In this context it would be great if you could expand further upstream to include the the upstream factors of the adrenal glands ie. the hypothalamus- pituitary - adrenal axis. For those who are hypo pituitary they cannot make sufficient ACTH this affects cortisol and DHEA . If someone has this issue they will have all the downstream issues including needing to take exogenous cortisol. However the current indicated treatment for this type of secondary adrenal insufficiency does not include DHEA. I would like to hear you thoughts on what a patient should do if they are on Cortisol for secondary adrenal insufficiency and their doc won’t prescribe DHEA what would be a way to get an appropriate amount via non prescription route. Thank you!

    Hi Mike- 2 things: 1) Does taking exogenous DHEA affect feedback loops and endogenous DHEA production in a similar way as TRT? 2) In theory I like the idea of DHEA at night to antagonize cortisol, but don't studies on the circadian rhythm of DHEA show that levels climb in the early morning hours rather than, say, right at bedtime when you would be taking it? When I have tried taking DHEA at bedtime it gives me insomnia.

    • @glennriquito381
      @glennriquito381 Před 4 měsíci

      I ran across your comment. According to what I have read years ago, DHEA, unlike other hormones, does not have a feedback loop. So I guess this means that taking DHEA does not affect your body's own production of it.

    I used to take DHEA in the morning, then I read a study that claimed taking 50 mg. of DHEA right before bedtime increased growth hormone levels. And so, I now take 50 mg. at night. And by the way, I usually wake up horny as hell. I'm 66 years old. When I first found out about DHEA I was in my early forties. I was experimenting on my own, and I had no idea how much to take. And so, I experimented on myself. This was back around 1997 when DHEA was new and there wasn't too much information about it. I gradually increased the dose to see what would happen. I don't remember how high I went, but it was pretty high. I started to notice one of my eyelids begin to twitch a lot. I figured this was because of too much DHEA. Eventually, I got a blood test and my DHEA level was VERY high, off the chart, and so was my DHT.

    Mike is always at the forefront of longevity therapeutics. However we must realize that the plantation herd is under more stress all the time. Longevity in the U.S. has decreased by ap. 3% since 2020. Over 60% of the livestock cannot put their hand on a thousand dollars unless they use a credit card or borrow from aunt Tilly. 50% of homeless are in the boomer generation like Jim and Sally and are just trying to push their carts around and pick up enough aluminum cans to survive another day and are not even aware that their andropause levels are tanking almost as fast as their economic prospects. Scott will also soon be unable to pay his rent and will be joining them under the overpass so he may also ruminate about the need for DHEA supplementation as the cars pass overhead.

Probably still have some insulin resistance but not that bad! Eat long carb mostly carbs from butter and yoghurt some fermented vegetables! But o wonder if I should take this? I’m 38! I have had chronic pain due to back problems that also effected the nerves! But it started to get better so have been stressed for that! Bo libido longer! Would be nice if this help for that and for the sleep

    My morning cortisol is in upper part of the range, so good, but my dhea is low on a saliva test. Why would dhea be low and cortisol fine? Mornings are worst for anxiety which gets better as the day goes on. I read melatonin is needed to make dhea and if dhea is low in morning at thevstart of cortisol awakening response, that when you wake up with adrenaline rushes and anxiety. I definitely have a better awakening response when i eat a snack before bed and get enough sleep.

    • @trail.blazer
      @trail.blazer Před 6 měsíci

      DHEAs at 38ug/dL looks quite low. What are your SHBG / testosterone / free-testosterone levels? They are ultimately what you are interested in. Most people are taking DHEA with the aim of increasing active testosterone.

    • @steelgtr
      @steelgtr Před 6 měsíci

      @@trail.blazer Total T is 683. (Kaiser does not check free T.) SHBG is 55.2 Thanks for replying :)

    • @trail.blazer
      @trail.blazer Před 6 měsíci

      @@steelgtr SHBG is top end of range, which may reduce active T. Opinions vary on whether that is a problem. I did see a study that indicated even T bound by SHBG could still become active.
      If your total T is 683 ng/dL then that is good. It is not possible to determine how much might be active, but I doubt you are low free T. Possibly a higher free T is better, so measuring that could be useful.
      As for the DHEAs, it comes down as to your perceived benefits with taking DHEA. Taking DHEA is very likely to work with increasing DHEAs but it does have some possible side effects, and should not be taken if you have some medical conditions.
