    I started taking DHEA after your last video on the subject. I do crossfit and have a very physical job. I started gaining a lot of weight once I turned 45. For the last 3 years I'd tried intermittent fasting, 56 hour fasts, carnivore, noom, WAG, everything, and just kept stacking it on. I started DHEA, and it's just falling off with no other changes. I'm so grateful for your channel!

    When I take DHEA as a menopausal woman, I monitor my mood. If I get cranky for no reason, I know my dose is too high. That only happens if I take a higher dose daily. I take 10mg cream, in one dose, every other day. That works for me! You don't need a lot of it.

    I'm 35 and a couple years ago felt a serious dip in my testosterone. I struggled to complete workouts, my libedo bottomed out. I can't say dhea is the sole reason that I've seen huge improvements, but it definitely gives me the extra drive I was missing to workout hard without struggling or quitting.. And now that I'm working out daily I've lost weight, gotten much stronger, and I'm living a healthier lifestyle and overall I feel like myself again and all I think about is sex just like I did in my 20s. Dhea played a role, in my opinion. Also multivitamins daily help. Zinc and vitamin d and all that is important too.

    Really like your channel. This was an informative and helpful video.
    Supplementation with DHEA was key to recovering from the brick wall I ran into at menopause. My suggestion is to work with your doctor to monitor all your sex hormones on a regular basis. I'm doing that, and am on a pretty high dose for a woman, but the levels are regularly checked thru blood, saliva and dried urine modalities.
    Ladies, take care of your adrenals while you're young and you will avoid the drastic reductions in all sex hormones when menopause happens... and it always does.
    Best care of adrenals: stress management... don't try to be that perfect super-mom and pursue peace in your marriage.
    Last comment for Mike: try using a black or blue marker on your white board. The red was very difficult to see. Thanks!!

      Menopause is natural. No matter what you do when young, you will lose your sex hormones at menopause. Dhea helps but only solution is replacement of the hormones and the only reliable way is pharmaceutical hrt. Period. Not soy, not yoga.

    • @Constans99
      @Constans99 Před 2 lety +3

      @@iss8504 Generally agree. The adrenal glands take over from the ovaries at menopause, so while sex hormones are very reduced at that time, healthy adrenals will prevent complete tanking, which dramatically affects the menopausal woman. That's not what anyone wants, and younger women need to be aware early and not find out when it happens. HRT is very valuable, but it's also very valuable to preserve the hormonal resources we were created with. Agree about soy, yoga, etc.

If I'm trying to get a general baseline, is it better for me to do this on a (lazy no stress) Sunday or on a work day which is a better representation of my average day. I was also wondering if you could do a video on Pregnenolone (and DHEA) and when someone might choose to use one over the other. Also, thanks for the dosing information for women. I did regular saliva testosterone tests and saw my test levels go up every time. I started using a DIM cream just to be safe. Finally I saw my test levels go up to and then beyond the levels of a teenager. The test company thought it must have been an error and sent me a free replacement test. While I still felt fantastic I decided to take a DHEA break for a few weeks until my levels normalise. Lesson: Dosage matters! This stuff is powerful. Best to do regular tests and not wing it.

    Q. Does it matter when and how to take DHEA? Morning vs night. Empty vs full stomach? Thanks
    A. Yes, the timing and administration of DHEA can impact its effectiveness. Taking it in the morning is often recommended as it mimics the body's natural production cycle. However, some people may experience better results taking it at night. As for taking it on an empty or full stomach, it's generally suggested to take it with food to minimize potential stomach upset. Always follow the specific instructions provided by your healthcare provider or the product label.

    7-keto form of DHEA is formed from dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) in the body. DHEA is a "parent hormone" produced by glands near the kidneys. But unlike DHEA, 7-keto-DHEA is not converted to steroid hormones such as androgen and estrogen. Taking 7-keto form of DHEA by mouth or applying it to the skin does not increase the level of steroid hormones in the blood.

    Hi Mike - Thanks for such an interesting video. Quick question, I am a 56 male, 166 pounds. A recente blood test shows my Dehidroepiandrosterona (DHEA-SO4) at 406.00. I only take Biotin and Vitamin C, in the days prior to the test I ate sardines and vegetables while intermittent fasting to try to lower my fasting glucose (at 114), my lifestyle is a bit hectic..... Any ideas? Thanks.

    So if our bloodwork is in the “normal” range based on lab work is it really normal or is there a different range that is more optimal? Seems like functional medicine usually has different ranges preferred compared to traditional medicine.

    What do you think about DUTCH testing? I see that it can show what pathways hormones take for your body? I worry about anything that may produce more estrone (the bad estrogen).

    • @johncalla2151
      @johncalla2151 Před 2 lety

      I've found it produced some interesting info, but without a concomitant blood hormone test, it could lead people to the wrong conclusions. E.g., hormone levels in my urine were approximately opposite what was in my blood. Also, if everything is in the "normal range", the company won't provide any helpful analysis for you. It also depends on them accurately measuring creatinine levels (which is used to understand urine concentration), and I have doubts about the precision on that.

      I experienced the same with hairloss, have my hormones tested every 5-6 mo and DHEA is low but hairloss is always an issue. Testosterone is also low, so I cant clearly see that being the reason of conversion, FI is ok too, so I dont know exactly what mechanism is behind the adverse reaction. Then after checking levels and speaking to your doctor- know that for women, it is recommended to start with 5-10 mg…. Start Slow & Small- consider 5 mg for 2-3 weeks.
      If after a 5-10 mg supplement, you start feeling angry, stressed, losing hair, etc- Reasses or stop altogether.
