    1. Nothing

      Seriously, not a single nibble, concern, problem, ... Then you might be a fanboy and not a critic :) Kidding. Enjoy! I wanted a GTI bad, but the cost just made the Woflsburg Golf my best choice at the time. Could not justify the extra 10-15K; and I could not deal with the plaid seating in the two lower end models ....

    • @wgrock
      @wgrock Před 7 lety +1

      Matt McGregor As an owner it's hard to not be a fanboy. I guess if you don't like the plaid than the GTI just isn't for you. Too bad. I'm sure the Wolfsburg is okay ;)

      @Bare_Essence Před 7 lety +2

      Will's Pointy Things I'm a fanboy too. This will be my third golf. No GTI yet. Was sticking to the TDIs until they went away. No car comes close enough to the Golf line though many are trying really hard.

      Increased visibility, less weight, and to people like me it's more aesthetically appealing.

    • @AlienNinjaPuppy
      @AlienNinjaPuppy Před 7 lety +1

      Archer not true. 2 doors has less visibility. just look at supercars. also, 4 doors are known to be lighter than 2 doors.

      3 door is more for superminis, not so much for a GTi you’re gonna be using day to day and carrying mates/family about. Just that little bit more practical 🤷🏾‍♂️

      I think the 4 door looks more proportional than the 2 door, fits the body lines better.

    I had exactly the opposite B-Pillar visibility issue with my Mark VI 2-Door Golf (TDI). I sit so far back, the longer door and further back position in which I sit caused a very serious visibility issue. I know your pain. The 4-door Mark VII (part of the TDI trade-in) is perfect for me since the B-Pillar is more forward and I can now look over my shoulder and see traffic properly just behind and in front of the pillar. I'm 6'4 btw. I now have to deal again with pulling myself forward to get out of the car (around the pillar which is directly to my left, something that the 2-door did not require. One thing you did not mention is dinging the very large doors on the 2-door; which I had to learn not to do. The doors are simply huge (long) and if you push them open there better be clearance. You have to open them carefully. I agree that the rear doors are useful. They are also helpful in airflow, since you can open them slightly or all the way, with the sunroof open. The 2-door was always blustery in the front seats at high speeds with the sunroof open. The rear seats in my 2-door rarely got used, only things that I could fling over the seats or move the seat forward and shove in the back. Enjoy your GTI!

    I have a 2017 GTI SE and my only real complaint is that the stock US mirrors are a little too small. I have a good habit of looking but regardless these mirrors have big blind spots. (I might order the Euro spec mirrors that are curved on the ends to help reveal blindspots to remedy this.)
    I wish the windows rolled up/down with the key fob (I know this can be changed via VAGCOM).
    I wish the passenger mirror tilted down in reverse (I know this can be changed via VAGCOM).
    These are both features I grew to love from my days with an old E39.

    Chris, thank you very much for your car reviews and your channel. I watch a lot of car videos, you have no idea how much I'm tired of annoying car reviews that start with rave music, and it goes downhill from there. You actually own these cars and your perception is much more valuable than of so called "professional" car reviewers.

The Sport model will be relatively rare within the MK7 GTI lineup.

      Andrew Wong I drive a mk6 gti (2013) w/ convience and sunroof package, and I must say I love the sunroof. When its open during the summer it makes the experience of driving the car that little bit better. As far as the plaid seats go, it depends on whether you like leather or not. Iv seat in and drove gtis that had the leather and they just arent for me. That being said I prefer the beautiful, historical plaid seats to their leather counterparts. :) Hope I helped!

      My 2016 2-door GTI S (base model in every regard), came standard with Apple Car Play. I love it. Car Play is standard on 2016/2017 GTI 2-doors. The 2 door must have been discontinued (FOR THE USA, IT STILL EXISTS) just after they started to churn out 2017's. The only difference between a 2016 & 2017 GTI 2-door is a 6 opposed to a 7. The 2015, from what I've read DOESN"T have Apple Car Play.

  • @GTI_CHHA

    Not sure if this also holds for the NA GTIs, but the European GTIs do not have the fog wiring pre-installed (in case of no fogs). And the euro model comes with stock 17 inch wheels only. 18 and 19 inch are optional. Interesting difference, your stock Nogaro wheels are not available for the European GTIs, but they are optional for the GTD. And there are engine differences, but you know that already.

    • @danI43541
      @danI43541 Před 7 lety

      GTI_CHHA in Europe you can actually spec your cars! You can't put any options on this GTI Sport, if you want e.g. Xenon lights or idk bigger screen you need to go for another trim level.. that's the case with most of the (VAG) cars in the us. I prefer the European system where you have the shitty base car and put options on it without (m)any restrictions

Sort of bizarre that my S came with fog lights but yours doesn't. But mine has the crappy H15 high beam/DRL combo, which is really the only thing I dislike about mine that's hard to change.

    I have a '16 with the lighting package and fog lights. I actually don't use the fog lights most of the time because when they are on the "turn" lights don't turn on with the turn signal or the steering wheel. My 2016 base two door GTI has Apple Car Play, only complaint is the hard plastic that your right knee rests on, rest is perfect, had the car weighed on accurate digital scales with 1/2 tank of gas, 2,940 lbs...This has no sunroof and is manual. Great car!

    You can use a glove, they sell special gloves that work on touch screens, I have them and they work fine. Forget about the 2 doors, the 4 doors are just nicer to own. I like the small paddle shifters. It is hard to find things you don't like about this car because it really does everything good.

    $100 GTI Tuner Hack. How much can you actually improve a GTI for under $100? Turns out quite a bit.
    #1 Dogbone Bushing Upgrade. For $40 you can eliminate about 90% of the driveline windup that causes wheel hop on 'brisk' acceleration, and likewise under heavy braking. This bushing slips inside the existing hollow bushing to stiffen it up. Why VW chooses the softer bushing in the GTI is a mystery. I detect no change in NVH.
    #2 Polyurethane RSB Bushings (~20) + the 11mm Star-drive socket (~$10 at Sears) you'll need to install them. This adds just a bit of rear roll stiffness to improve turn-in and reduce understeer. You will definitely notice this in the twisties, and again, I can't tell any change in NVH.
    Installing both of these just adds more "GTI-ness" to an already great car, without having to get radical with mods or your checkbook. Even if you pay to have these installed, it should only take under an hour on the rack of any competent shop to do both.

    The LED fogl ights are not that bright, and I think they are driving lights, different OPTICS...also with Xenon ya get the corner H7 lights which really works WELL, as long as the fogs are OFF, they don't come on with fogs engaged, both light up when in reverse, very handy, ya can SEE!

      ***** My understanding is in the US the LED tails are not available because of a DOT regulation regarding the minimum height of the turn signal. Which is just another example of why we can't have nice things.

    Great video. I owned a 2010 2-Door MK6 and loved it. I am currently shopping for a 2017 GTI so any videos of this car will never be boring to me. You might look at #AskDAP who has a GTI specific channel of how-to videos and parts sales. Maybe he has a better and cheaper solution for the fog lights. Also, as your channel grows maybe some of your subscribers might live not too far from you and they might have a new car for your to review. Or maybe not new but something really cool to drive. I've seen that a lot on some other channels.
    Keep up the good work Great stuff!

    Maybe #6 you could put done depreciation? In Canada a 5-dr DSG Mk6 GTI starts around $38k (which is really pricey, a Mustang GT starts at that price). I've seen 2015s with 40,000km going for under $25k, and 2016 with under 15,000km for under 30k (26k was the most recent). Gotta admit thats a big hit. I'm planning on waiting until next year to pick one up.

    I have last year's model. On the area around the base of the shifter, does it still have 4 blank slots for option buttons that the US market cars don't get?
    Can you get headlamp washers? My car has cutouts for them but they weren't available on US marketed cars!
    Can you close the windows with the key fob? My car doesn't do it, just ridiculous especially on a car costing over $29,000!
    Does the car still have a rear backup camera? They are unreliable. I've had mine fixed once and then replaced (under warranty fortunately). If mine jams again after warranty coverage ends, I'm going to just remove it.
    VW put heated mirrors but they don't power-fold. Unbelievable. Half the people at work have cheaper cars and they have powerfold mirrors!
