    after 2 years and 60,000 touble free miles, here are my 7....
    1 The way it drives, turns onto corners, the grip, effortless nature of it all
    2 The smoothness of the engine and the seamless acceleration
    3 Max torque all the way from 1500, incredible engineering feat
    4 The sculpted lines of the bodywork
    5 Electronic steering is so accurate, and such feedback
    6 How integrated everything is. How all the different parts talk to each other. e.g. when you go over a certain speed, you get a warning that window is open and causing unnecessary drag
    7 The build quality...the way the door shuts
    and of course, I cannot stop at 7 when there is so much to love about this car.
    8 The quietness of the engine.....and the gorgeous sound it makes when you floor it
    9 The firmness of the ride - yet it never is uncomfortable
    10 The fuel efficiency, I got 48.5 mpg on a 7 hr Austrian motorway trip (must have been a tailwind)
    11 The red line through the headlights and the red strips on the door and door sills

    Congrats on your purchase; I can tell you really like it! I wish I would have done mine a little differently and had a little bit more room for negotiation but I just had to have the first Red Mk7 Autobahn I could possibly get my hands on. All that torque caused me to need new tires at 10K miles. Did eventually get tired of the limitations of FWD, bought a Cadillac ATS 3.6 and missed the playfulness of my GTI, so tried to check all my boxes with an S3 Prestige, which ironically doesn't have curve illuminating lights even at the top trim.

    Just started looking into a GTI yesterday as it's a vehicle that's always caught my eye. Went and test drove a 2017 GTI S today and it was nice. Went and drove a WRX right after and the GTI was definitely better! I drove a manual one so maybe I'll have to drive a DSG as well if they really are THAT good. I've heard amazing things about them! Gotta tell ya man. You're selling on it lol. The car felt rock solid and the interior quality was absolutely fantastic! I'll have to try a DSG soon! I can agree with the comfort when needed but sporty when wanted. Sounds great!

    • @Jeremiah17seven
      @Jeremiah17seven Před 7 lety

      I have the 2017 GTI S package. It only comes with halogens...which work perfectly fine for me. The LSD does not come on the S...but that didn't matter to me either. The S is an amazing package also and I got mine for $21,700. Some things I like with the S that doesn't come on the Sport are: LED Fog Lights, Austin Rims, Mirrors that match the paint color of the car, and an ignition cylinder (I don't want KESSY at all). But...$23,299 is a very good price for the Sport if the Sport is your preference (if that price includes the destination charge).

  • @liamswimmerswag
    @liamswimmerswag Před 7 lety

    Hi Chris! Do you think paying $2,000-2,500 more for the Sport package over the baseline S trim is worth it? I'm torn between those two packages (about to buy one!!)

  • @JVranicar1
    @JVranicar1 Před 7 lety

    Nice find. Keep posting these videos!
    Since you used to own a Porsche, I want your opinion on the acceleration of the MK7 GTI.
    Here are my thoughts. After owning a 2006 Subaru Legacy GT (with 250 HP turbo engine) for nine years, I finally made a switch to a 2017 GTI SE MT late November 2016
    The decision to purchase a new GTI was one I thought about for over a year. This is because I loved that Subaru. It was very reliable and the engine response and handling were incredible. It was a Clark Kent kind of car. A car no one would expect to be fast but was pretty damn quick.
    So it has been a few months and here are my overall observations:
    -Engine Response: No doubt, I liked the LGT's engine response more than the GTI. The GTI is more than adequate but it just doesn't have the get-up that the Legacy had. The LGT was rated at 250 HP so I suppose this makes sense but I was hoping that the GTI's lower overall weight would make up for the HP difference. In terms of engine response, it doesn't. The good news is that the GTI has been getting ~26 MPG while the LGT got me ~21 MPG.
    -Handling: Pretty much even, which surprises me in that the LGT is an AWD car. While I haven't really driven the GTI in the snow due to our mild Kansas City winter, I am very happy with the handling and response. The GTI drives just like an AWD vehicle in my limited experience. I wonder if that is in large part to the limited slip differential (?).
    -Fit and Finish: The GTI wins hands down and not only because it is 11 model years newer. And of course, the technology the GTI offers is superior considering it is 10 model years newer.
    My overall verdict? While I really enjoy my new VW, some days I wonder why I just didn't keep driving my Suby LGT for a few more years. Especially when I'm on the highway and want to give my car some juice. The LGT responded better in those cases. I guess that in the end, I'm glad I have a GTI but I also miss my Legacy GT.
    That's my story. How do you think the acceleration of the GTI compares to other cars you've owned, namely the Cayman?

    • @JVranicar1
      @JVranicar1 Před 7 lety

      I bought mine on the 29th of November and got $5,200 off sticker. Not as good of a deal as you but I was happy with the price I paid for the SE. Having thought about this for over a year, I really notice that prices come down not only at the end of the month but also in 4Q.

  • @dynodin81
    @dynodin81 Před 7 lety

    Great review!
    What do you find to be the biggest differences between the mk6 and mk7 platform other than the engine? Do you find the mk7 to be a big step up from the mk6?

    • @Jeremiah17seven
      @Jeremiah17seven Před 7 lety

      I agree that the MK7 feels like an Audi. And the cabin is so quiet. My wife and I both notice that I can be driving 80 mph and it feels like I'm going 50...the ride is so smooth. I have to be very careful with that though...don't want any tickets! :-)

    @dono4598 Před 7 lety

    Hi Chris, Like your videos. Sorry to see the Cayman go, I too am interested in owning a Porsche but am also gravitating to the 911. You mentioned that with the Cayman you would have some layup time with the Cayman because of the winter weather in Mass. I live in Southern California so would not have the same issues as you would weather wise. My question to you is how much layup time do you think you would have during a typical winter? You also mentioned that the Cayman didn't have enough time to warm up because your short commute, wouldn't this be the same with the 911? Or was this concern only during winter driving? Keep up the good work with your videos, nice to see different perspectives from around the country. Current vehicle, RAM 1500 Sport, bucket vehicle, 2012 or newer Carrera 4S Targa.

    • @dono4598
      @dono4598 Před 7 lety

      You're right, I did see the video regarding the snow tires. I was just wondering if a car of this type was probably not conducive for winter driving. But I guess with snow tires that would help. In my area we are experiencing a 10 year storm which means we actually my have a weeks worth of rain. We usually get a spritz that will last a couple of hours every six months or so. I am in South Orange County and as they say, it never rains in California. Have a good one!

    I'm digging my Sport with DSG, but mine is metallic black. The acceleration is relentless and effortless. My poor tires can't find grip to save their lives (under fairly hard acceleration), but in inclement weather the GTI is well grounded. It's a blast to own! Last weekend, I drove 120 miles for toiletries. Any excuse to get behind the wheel.

    It's funny because I like many of the same things...except I have a 2017 GTI S. What's different for me is that I love NOT having the KESSY system. When push button ignitions go bad...they are a LOT more expensive to have repaired than regular key ignitions. Pusjing a button on my key-fob to unlock the car doors is very easy and turning the key in the ignition is super easy as well. I think all cars that have KESSY should also come with an ignition cylinder. If they did...I would probably want the KESSY system then. But since they don't...it looks like the company is purposely setting you up for a more expensive repair when a push-button start goes bad. I already flashed my car with Unitronic DSG flash and Unitronic ecu 1+ flash. The DSG runs much better now and the extra HP and TQ make this car feel like it has Mustang 5.0 power when I kick in the turbo. I appreciate your videos, you do a good job.

      I'm on my 4th VW now with cars having over 230k miles on them even, still runs to this day like a champ. I've owned (not counting the many others we used to have in the house) the mk3 Jetta 2.0, mk4 Jetta 1.8t, mk6 GLi, and now mk7 GTi. They've all done very very well by me with almost completely nothing further than normal maintenance. I take care of my own cars, and with the exception of changing the DSG fluid (in the last 2 cars, as the others were all regular manuals), my cars have never been to a dealer. If it wasn't for resale value in having a paper trail saying your car was taken care of, then I'd have done the DSG service at home as I always do everything else. Small price to pay (never paid above $275 for a change) for easier resale later on when I wanna buy another one lol
