    We’ve made a couple of upgrades to the engine package on this Honda Grom:
    Grom top end build: • Honda Grom Top End Bui...
    Grom exhaust upgrade: • Honda Grom Exhaust Ins...
    Grom clutch replacement: • Honda Grom Clutch Repl...
    Now, we’re going to work on handling. In this video, John will add a couple of Honda Grom suspension mods. We’ll install an Ohlins fork kit for the Honda Grom, and we’ll also add an Ohlins shock.
    The shock installation on the Grom is straightforward. We’ll dig into the Grom by removing the seat release lever, the exhaust, and a couple of other items to access the shock mount bolts. John is going to install this shock upside down since the reservoir is attached to it and we need the clearance, but you can also install an Ohlins shock with a remote reservoir.
    After we’re done on the back, we’ll move to the more complex job of installing the Honda Grom fork kit from Ohlins. This will involve removing and disassembling the forks, replacing the internal components, refilling the tubes, and then installing the Ohlin forks on the Grom.

      That stuff is normally a scam/phishing method. (Considering both these comments are in at the most 1 hour of each other, I think it's more plausible you're just a 2nd account.)

    14:35 Is it possible that both rings would be facing the same direction from the factory? If so, would this cause a lack of damping in the opposite direction? Both of my factory glide rings had the teeth facing toward the long end of the damping rod, which the aftermarket kits call rebound damping, does that mean I did not have any compression damping? It would make a lot of sense with how easily it bottomed out from factory.

    You shouldn't torque down the top caps with the top clamp torqued... you won't have the real torque because the clamp is "crushing" the fork tube !

    So my fork cap 36 mm bolts got blemished with some sort of chemical and it faded the black paint on them. I ordered replacements but can I just take out the old ones and replace them without removing the entire fork assembly?

  • @real100talk5
    @real100talk5 Před 4 lety

    You will need a 34 mm socket for the Ohlins caps, and at 11:45 that is the stock washer, not a washer that comes with the kit.

    The service manual for the Grom recommends 10W fork oil, Ohlins recommends part # 01309-01 with the FDK-111 kit for the Grom, which is their "Road and Track" but does not specify a weight. I ride the Grom mostly for commuting and weigh ~180lbs with full gear. Do you recommend the Maxima 5 weight for all circumstances when installing this kit?

    • @PMitchell106
      @PMitchell106 Před rokem +1

      @@ammoonlin-ki4rg I ended up going with a Racing Bros fully adjustable kit, I'm confident it's better than this non-adjustable kit designed and manufactured by Öhlins' Thai subsidiary. As far as fork oil, I went with Bel Ray High Performance 7.5w. I would recommend this setup to anyone.
