@@user-jv2gg7ht4e when I first became a Christian I thought church was a safe place. No body told me that there are just as many evil people in the church as on the outside. The evil is just not as open. One of those places I learned was church music hides worldly music right in the open. Some church music is just worldly music repackaged.
I learned you still have to keep your guard up. What bothers me does not always bother the next person on the pew. The reverse is also true

I learned this some years ago. I met a guy who got hired to play his guitar in a church. I asked him what denomination , he said Catholic but I don’t care I just need a job…I didn’t know what to say after that. Now it makes sense why the church choirs are often changed out nowadays

@@texasbelle333 this is true. I am split on my thoughts. On one hand why does it matter what the beliefs of the musician is? I just need someone to play well. I would dictate what the music is just play the song.
On the other hand the person does bring his beliefs to YOUR fellowship. Even if this person does not verbalize his beliefs they spirit is there so to speak. He would invite other spirits that might just be against what you are trying to do. Music is a huge package of ideas thoughts and even spirits.

Great analysis Corey over the whole state of modern Christian worship. One thing that makes me sick to my stomach the most is the "me-centered" gospel songs which are typically found in contemporary music. It's like every sentence is me, me, I, I'm, look at me I'm blessed and highly favored. All this and throw in a couple sentences about what God can do and that's it. It should be about reverence for who God is and about Him alone. Remember Hebrews 12:28-29.

The spirit of the world permeates thru so much of today’s “Christian music.” I noticed YEARS ago when I looked on the CD covers of Kirk Franklin (and others) that many of them looked like hard core “gangster rappers” or (in the case of the WHITE “Christian”artists) edgy “rock and rollers.” They had mean expressions on their faces and they looked angry. Some of them even appear to be sad. But when you look at the album covers of Christian artists back in the day (the 70’s and 80’s) they were smiling and looked happy! If you are singing about The Lord Jesus Christ you ought to have a joyful expression on your album cover! But I guess that wouldn’t be COOL these days!

I liked this video Corey. As a musician and song writer I can relate to this. Music in the church is a touchy subject for sure. When someone writes a song we really have no idea what their intentions are. I like old hymns but I don't know how they came about. I have listened to other teachings about Christian music and it is confusing? Spencer Smith talks about music alot and he has a guy on his show play Christian songs with a acoustic guitar. I do enjoy it but if he played the same song on an electric guitar they make seem like that is wrong? Or if you add drums to it then it becomes evil somehow. This confuses me. I don't play in a church and currently don't go to church. This saddens me I do still play and write songs at home. I try to write music that talks about the gospel message and Jesus. The thing is someone else could interpret the meaning differently. This makes music a touchy subject. I seen people play in bars on Saturday night and then be playing in church on Sunday morning? I have been in churches when they find out your a musician they want you to play for them no matter what you're situation is. I am sorry to vent here but this is a topic that makes for good subject matter for me. Be blessed peace 🕊️✌️

LA Mass Choir did "We Exalt Thee" back in 1993 back when black gospel was still about glorifying God andnot what you can get from Him. However, we must realize that the purpose of Christian music is to uplift the those who are already Christians (Eph. 5:19; Col. 3:16). This is where many artists fall short in their efforts. They try to cater their music to the lost, but when lost artists come to Christ they usually do a gospel album full of old school hymns, not the contemporary gospel that is out today.

Almost seems to take you right into His presence. Also, "I/We Exalt Thee" was not written by Bethel Music (thank God!). It's an old song, written by Pete Sanchez back in 1975 (yes, I had to Google that). But we used to sing it in church when I was growing up A LONG time ago, way back in the late-70s and 80s 😂 It's just that it's a personal favorite of mine and, brothers and sisters, we can't let the heretics at Bethel ruin it for a new generation.

I dont have a problem with Christian music regardless of genre that's glorifying God, speaks of people's testimonies on what God did for them because that's still giving him glory, and positive music. I think today some people just have a limited view and think praise and worship looks and behaves the same for everyone. Everyone doesn't even feel the anointing the same. Everyone has a preference and that's fine. Just because some people don't like it doesn't mean it can't reach or touch other people. Many music ministries whether they get paid or not reach the lost and plant the seeds before a church even can. God is reaching people in many ways. Repetitive singing and chanting is used in many false religions as a way to dull the brain into a submissive and vulnerable state. That is the problem with repetitive lyrics. They are purposely manipulative. Mind numbing, when we are to guard our minds and take every thought captive. Not a preference, but discernment.

What may or may not be known is that churches have a literal LIST of music that they can choose from (that their music team can play). The church PAYS for the right to use (💰 going to everyone else but not to further the gospel). CCMA & it is an association who has been/will continue to profit & make earthly "stars" out of the runners up of all the TV shows (which Loren Dagle is one that comes to mind). Continue to pray for wisdom & discernment. I find it sad that the church CAN'T sing along (with all the moaning 🤨 either in pain or sensuality). There's no need for that. Yes, David sang/danced before the Lord... 🗝️ words... Before the LORD...Praise God for what He's done for me by sending Jesus (His Son) who willingly gave His life to pay a sin debt I could never pay. ☺️💜✝️💜 Time IS short & this 🌎 is not my home 😊 Heaven Bound, thank you JESUS!☺️

I 100% agree, I am a musican and I believe we who play before the Lord must be Holy the words we sing are a declaration unto our God and it's to glorify him and not move our flesh. It's the words that come out of our mouth that should flow from heart, that should be the thing that moves God. I also believe that what we sing should come out of the scriptures and not copied from secular music. God is Holy and we must reflect back to him what he is, HOLY!!!!

My church plays a few songs from Bethel, Hillsong and Elevation, but I've not spotted anything overt in the lyrics. I suppose the worship team filters them well. I assume nobody is paying royalties for the use of the songs so I don't mind the bad source if the song is sound itself.

Grew up in the 60s / 70s but love sacred music polyphony and chant.
John Taverner (17th Century) wrote the music for "After the Sabbath" Mark 16: 1-2.
    In English, the verses are:
"And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James,
and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him. Alleluia.
And very early in the morning the first day of the week,
they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost."
In Latin, the music title is " Dum transisset Sabbatum"
    "Dum transisset Sabbatum,
Maria Magdalene et Maria Jacobi et Salome emerunt aromata,
    ut venientes ungerent Jesum. Alleluia.
    Et valde mane una Sabbatorum

Anytime the songs/music and the singers or musicians are elevated over and above The LORD MESSIAH CHRIST JESUS than this a high flying red flag🚩! And just because people sing about things does not mean they practice/do those things (no matter what it is). Most of the music🎶 (and much of it all IS crap) we hear today that has the label of Gospel or Christian does not even mention JESUS' NAME. There are many good songs in the Gospel/Christian category by some sho' nuff sangin' folks but I still have not found clear evidence in the Scriptures that music itself is 'anointed' as so many people tend to say or that music "saves/delivers/heals" anybody. And if the Truth be told, many of us will say that the music got us through situations/things/times when we should have been RIGHTEOUSLY saying that it was The LORD CHRIST MESSIAH JESUS HIMSELF/THE HOLY SPIRIT WHO helped us in our times of NEED and/or sufferings. I believe we misappropriate a lot of things especially things pertaining to The HOLY SPIRIT ~The SPIRIT OF TRUTH! It's like we slight The LORD CHRIST MESSIAH JESUS for the musical talents or showmanship of man. And in many church assemblies there is more emphasis on music and entertainment than on the Word OF HOLY LIVING GOD. If, THE HOLY SPIRIT truly caused a song to be in one's heart than there should be no ambiguity on who is to be praised, exalted and worshipped. But, many have simply used the so called Gospel/Christian musical lane as a way to achieve that bag💰, fame and success (i noticed, too, how many musicians seem to be labeled as 'pastors' even without meeting Biblical criteria). FATHER ALMIGHTY HOLY GOD IS NOT seeking great singers, musicians, bands etc. So, let's NOT trip! The satan😈 has taken masses of people both of the world and in the churches and he's set them up on a high mountain to "serve" him. They even reward themselves for their own VAINGLORIOUS successes! We seem to keep forgetting that IT IS the HOLY SPIRIT WHO does the "drawing"; HE draws us to THE CHRIST...NOT songs, singing, stages, musical instruments, entertainment etc. It really makes you wonder/question ALL of the various things that people claim to be doing for the SAKE OF the HOLY LORD MESSIAH JESUS CHRIST/for THE GOSPEL when they are really the ones being praised and exalted😐.
    Shalom🕊

The flagship passages about MUSIC God inspired He tells us in EPHESIANS.
"Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;"
    and COLOSSIANS
"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”
GOD NEVER considered "preference" when He penned these truths.
Doesn't matter music in the “white church” or the “black church”, or how much the musicians get paid, but God's music is to emphasize the MELODY ("making melody in your hearts"), and not the BEAT and RYTHYM. It is never to emulate the musical styles and genres of the world.
It's so important for all of US to know, that music has influence and impact, and that music is never neutral. The devil knows this as he was a chief musician in heaven before he was booted out.
So, when he used rock star like Frank Zappa, he spoke through Zappa who said about his very own music “"Rock music is sex. The big beat matches the body’s rhythms”. And even BB King in his autobiography said, “The women reacted with their bodies flowing to a rhythm coming out of my guitar.”
Our hymns, psalms and spiritual songs never pattern after ROCK MUSIC or the BLUES or Rap or Holy Hip Hop (there is nothing holy about hip hop) or even Black “Rhythm and Blues”, music we can dance to and slow grind to and clappy happy to and run around the church to and jerk to and twerk to. We are never to worship God in the flesh. We are to worship Him in "spirit and in truth". It is never God's intent to have any of these worldly based genres with trite lyrics merely mentioning the name JESUS and call it WORSHIP and GOSPEL Music.
The LORD knew EAXCTLY why He had the writers pen those verses in Ephesians and Colossians. The LORD know these things should be to admonish. His commandments are RIGHTEOUS, and man can DO THEM! He NEVER tempts man to do evil. Problem is, man would rather create his own ways to do music, copying the styles of the wicked. They choose to believe like Bill Gather who said "God speaks through all different kinds of musical styles”. NO, HE DOES NOT! The devil has his style as well and sad to say His demonic styles are adopted by almost all “Christian” artists today, even contemporary Christian music, which in my opinion is the worst of them all.

The lyrics to the songs should always be the one thing that we all agree on. I hate ccm because it’s all about man when worship should always be about Christ. I love me some hymns and doxology, and my current church is all about hymns and I love that because hymns are all about Christ not man.
And Corey I agree in heaven the angels are repetitive with their words of worship but come on bruh some of these ccm are doing too much. It’s exactly what Christ rebukes in Matthew 6:7, I know this because of my previous church where the worship words are so repetitive that you’re ready to go to the next verse and chores but they’re stuck on that one part like bruuuuuhhhhh come on, let’s move on already!!!!! While it is accurate to correct some of these things - I do think it's too common that more conservative believers call out more liberal ones for not being harsh in an answer when it is just as much of a sin to make a principle harsher (look at what Eve said about God's order to not eat - she exaggerates to looking). We are ordered to not put to great a burden on each other and new believers. Also, even Christ would avoid answering directly when it was wise to do so in the service of a greater good/command/mission. Christ didn't start off with the woman at the well by naming her sin, he engaged with her, sought service from her, and even offered her hope before getting there (similarly with Zacchaeus). I also give these folks room to be humans who are flawed - we still sing David's songs despite his failures (both before and after).

    • @cierrahp9702
      @cierrahp9702 Před 11 měsíci +1

Exactly. Because how do we truly know the person singing is qualified based on certain standards. We don't know what they do after they leave church. So we just shouldnt assume. We all are flawed. So many people sing the same songs. You might feel the anointing from one person singing it and you might not feel it from another and they both could claim to be saved.
