buy a less pigmented blush so you have to swirl more and hit pan. I like the lighter shades from the Clinique Cheek pops

I agree! My depotting phase was a blessing in disguise because it turned into a declutter of all those palettes because I lost all motivation for the shadows without the packaging. The packaging is part of the experience you are paying for with makeup.. at least for me. I know have a small collection of about 7 palettes all with beautiful presentation and packaging . Very happy when I see my makeup nowadays. Great video.

I think when starting it is hard to not overbuy because you just don’t know what works and what your preferences are (I did this when I started interest in makeup about 2 years ago and now have way way too much from having none). I like your thought that practice and technique are the most important. I have been wearing makeup throughout this quarantine situation even though usually just my kids and husband see me. It has helped me feel put together and use things that give me some enjoyment. I just found you now and haven’t project panned before. I will watch more to figure that out.

I'm the opposite from you when it comes to depotting eyeshadows. I use my depotted singles the most. When I leave them in a palette, I rarely use them. I make a curated palette then use them. I make one whenever I see a new palette launch that I love the colorstory of. One of my favorite ways of getting use out of my eyeshadow singles.

-I learned that I don't need dark lip colors, I used to use them back before I started using eyeshadows now they are too much with my intense eye looks.
-I use foundation twice a year max so I only spot conceal with concealer no more foundations for me.
-All highlighters look the same on my face so I don't need to own my 13 highlighters😭 I just need like 5-7 with different finishes, colors, and formulas.
-No more blush purchases for me. I prefer my lipsticks and eyeshadows as blush far more.
-NO HATE PAN. This was a nightmare tbh..
-Mixing palettes is the bomb! You do not need to buy a certain palette for a certain colour story, you probably own it scattered between your palettes.

I have a few in common with you, like finding my lipstick preferences and knowing that I don't need variety with base products. I'm an avid depotter though. Part of breaking my buying cycle has been removing my attachments to brands and packaging and I love creating my own colour schemes. Another thing I've learned is when to say 'enough' when a project or product isn't working. That's a skill I hope to use through life, not just for makeup.

I have been project panning for some time as well and have a lot of similar opinions to yours. It really shows you just how long it takes to get through these hundreds of dollars worth of products that we buy and can't get through because we continue to buy more because so much new stuff comes out. Great video. Very inspiring.

I love your list and can relate to so much of it. Through PP'ing, I figured out what colors and formulas work well for me and learned to appreciate subtle products. I also used to buy a ton of eyeshadows and was looking for the perfect one or the perfect look! Now I realize it's about understand the anatomy of my eye and that a matte cool-toned colors are key. My go-tos are MAC Coquette and L'oreal Cafe Au Latte. The search is officially over! Same w/highlighters, I realize I have a neutral undertone and most highlighters are too warm or gold. Last, there were some high end products that I used to think were a waste of money because they didn't "pop" or "wow me" (guerlain metorites primer) and bc I forced myself to use them everyday, I learned they are beautiful products that have a more subtle effect. I was so used to the over-the-top shimmer that I forgot about other types of highlights! Thanks again for this video

I am still working on the joy of one in each of these categories: primer, eye primer, foundation, concealer, powder, mascara and setting spray. Brushes are very important, and caring for brushes is just as important. I also realize that I need one contour, one bronzer and one reasonably useful highlighter. As far as highlighter, I do not need one that will be so brilliant that alien spaceships or airplanes will use it to land in my driveway.

Yes! I noticed I only need one in each category for my lifestyle the only exception is lip color (I need 4 lipsticks: a nude, pinky, peachy and red) and for blush I need 1 palette (I have NARS Exposed one). I currently am doing a project pan on a Tarte blush palette and too many nude lipsticks and 2 bronzers and once I’m done with those I will reach my goal of 1.

  • @jessicaharrison4719
    @jessicaharrison4719 Před 2 lety

Things I've learned from trying to use up my makeup:
    1) If I don't like an item, putting it in a project is more likely to have me avoiding doing my makeup than using up the item
    2) Depotting is amazing for me! I do a lot of theater, and I love being able to put just the things I need for whatever characters I'm creating and not have to cart around so much makeup. And sometimes rearranging my eye shadows into pretty color stories is fun!
    3) Blushes never die. I never need more than just a couple blushes, and that only if I am persnickety about undertones matching.
    4) Keeping a lipstick because I love the color is not helpful if I hate the formula.
    5) I may not like a product for it's intended purpose, but it may be a favorite to use for another purpose. Ex. Several lipsticks I hate on my lips, but love as cream blush.
    6) What looks good on camera is hard to feel comfortable in outside of the house. Especially bright or really shiny or sparkly eyeshadow!
    7) Mascara does not need to be fully used up. Replace often so as to avoid eye infections! And only open 1 or 2 at a time, or you are wasting it!
    8) If I am looking for something new, perhaps try something I already have to give the same effect. I was looking for a lavender blush, used a pinky lavender eyeshadow to see if I liked the look. Looked for an orange blush, had a very warm toned nude lipstick on my cheeks to see if I liked it (really looked terrible on my olive skin!). I thought I wanted a black lipstick, tried it out with a black eyeliner, loved it, and bought a black lipstick.
    9) I hate any foundation that has fuller coverage than medium. I have fair olive skin, and so finding the perfect shade and undertone is impossible, therefore my base needs to be sheer enough to be blendable.
    10) Tastes change, and makeup takes a long time to use up. It is better to only buy one of a thing and then buy something else when my taste inevitably changes once I have finished the previous item.
    11) Seriously, though, I don't need any more blush. For the next ten years, most likely.

I'm really new to watching project pan videos, and I've never done one myself.( although it looks fun) But I've already learned something! I like all the pretty colors and cool new stuff...so I buy minis if I can get them! They're easier to get through than a full sized product, and if it turns out to be a real staple in my routine, I can then buy the full sized product knowing I'm not wasting my money or my time. although spoiler some of the minis seem to have almost as much product as anyone could need in the time it would take to use it up. Would anyone really sign up to buy a quarter cup of bronzer if it was advertised that way??

    🎀When I was doing a strict project pan I learnt...🎀
🎀You can create a matte or unusual eyeliner with a good quality eyeliner brush, dipped in some eyeshadow.🎀
🎀Adding water or setting spray to your brush can change the texture of an item. (Old advice but a good one.)🎀
🎀You can layer eyeshadows on top of each other or mix them together, to create a new shade.🎀
🎀I started watching make-up documentaries to learn about how ethical the companies I was spending money with were. Especially as I’m doing a replacement, for old and disliked make up products.🎀
🎀 I started watching different CZcamsrs and Instagramers wearing make-up I liked. So I could recreate the looks with what I had.🎀
🎀Started looking at Inde brands. As I noticed many make-up brands aren’t unique with what they release. Sometimes I would buy the same eyeshadow shades repeatedly. (I have at least nearly used 10 nude eyeshadow palette’s.)
🎀Bright coloured eyeshadow can make a nude look refreshed and different.🎀
🎀I love unusual and blinding highlighters. 🎀
🎀I also discovered I’m cool toned so a lot of the make-up I have, won’t suit me unless I have warm toned foundation e.t.c. So I have quite a lot to pan.🎀
Edited to add:- 🎀I learnt that I need a heavy concealer as dark circles are hierarchy in my family.🎀
🎀Many make up brands will buy their shadows from the same coming. That makes a huge difference to paying £50 for a palette when there is one for under £20 with the same colours and quality.🎀

My thing is I buy too much makeup period but I love it what a dilemma lol! What do you mean when you say doing a lot more usage in your projects? Counting how many times you use them?

It's easier for me to finish a lipstick than most hair products. When it's this long, which is more than 2 times it's normal length, I wash it every 7-10 days and I rarely, rarely heat style it. I think it's so funny the different preferences and styles we have and how they evolve when we learn from each other.

I LOVE MY DEPOTTED EYESHADOW. I USE THEM MORE. I DEPOTTED Blush AND BRONZER AND PUT THEM IN 1 PALLET. IT'S TIME SAVING.
