  • The Tuʻi Tonga Empire, or Tongan Empire, are descriptions sometimes given to Tongan expansionism and projected hegemony in Oceania which began around 950 CE, reaching its peak during the period 1200-1500.
It was centred in Tonga on the island of Tongatapu, with its capital at Muʻa. Modern researchers and cultural experts attest to widespread Tongan influence, evidence of transoceanic trade and exchange of material and non-material cultural artefacts.
    History
    Beginning of Tongan expansionism
With the decline of Samoa's Tui Manu'a maritime empire, a new empire rose from the South. In 950 AD, the first Tu'i Tonga 'Aho'eitu started to expand his rule outside of Tonga. According to leading Tongan scholars, including Dr. 'Okusitino Mahina, the Tongan and Samoan oral traditions indicate that the first Tu'i Tonga was the son of their god Tangaloa. As the ancestral homeland of the Tu'i Tonga dynasty and the abode of deities such as Tagaloa 'Eitumatupu'a, Tonga Fusifonua, and Tavatavaimanuka, the Manu'a islands of Samoa were considered sacred by the early Tongan kings. By the time of the 10th Tu’i Tonga Momo, and his successor, Tuʻitātui, the Tu'i Tonga's empire had grown to include much of the former domains of the Tui Fiti and Tui Manu'a, with the Manu'a group as the only exception. To better govern the large territory, the Tu’i Tonga had their throne moved by the lagoon at Lapaha, Tongatapu. The influence of the Tu’i Tonga was renowned throughout the Pacific, and many of the neighbouring islands participated in the widespread trade of resources and new ideas.

I AM NOT COMMENTING THIS BECAUSE IM SAMOAN⚠️⚠️⚠️. I 💯 believe that all polynesian came from Samoans or Tu'i Manu'a empire. I don't care which empire is bigger, I care where do most polynesian originate from. But I will list out summaries and links below:
🇹🇴Tonga:According to Samoan oral tradition, Tonga was once under the sway of the Tui Manu'a and paid tribute to the chiefs of Samoa. In the tenth century this dominance was reversed, the Tui Manu'a were supplanted by the Tuʻi Tonga Empire, and Samoa's chiefs paid tribute to Tonga. In the thirteenth century Talakaifaiki brought Samoa under his direct control, and established a capital at Safotu on the island of Savaiʻi. He was later driven out by the progenitors of the Malietoa dynasty.Despite this successful rebellion intermarriages between Tongan and Samoan chiefly lines continued, and Ngata, the progenitor of the current Tonga royal dynasty, the Tuʻi Kanokupolu, was of Samoan descent.According to Samoan legend, Aso'aitu (Aho’eitu in Samoan) was the first Tu’i Tonga (ruler of the south) and son of a deified Samoan high chief, Tangaloa ‘Eitumâtupu’a, and whose mother was a Tongan woman, Va’epopua, of great noble birth. This double origin, entitled the Tu’i Tonga to hold both divine and secular offices. For Samoa in particular, it was especially important to have these genealogical links in order for one's rule to be legitimized. This is seen again in later centuries during Queen Salamasina's time, as she was descended from this same line of both Samoan and Tongan aristocracy. In principle, the close cultural and historical interlinkages between Fiji, Samoa and Tonga were essentially elitist, involving the intermarriage between regional aristocratic families.
🇼🇫 Uvea Mo Futuna (Wallis And Futuna:Oral tradition records rich connections with the Samoans, whose arrival was peaceful. The sovereigns of the kingdom of Alo would thus come from Samoa (lineage of Fakavelikele). Similarities in constructions were also observed between the two islands. There is no suspect of the connection between Uvean (Wallisan) and Samoan I could find.
🇳🇺Niue:Polynesians from Samoa settled Niue around 900 AD. Further settlers arrived from Tonga in the 16th century.
🇹🇰 Tokelau:Archaeological evidence indicates that the atolls of Tokelau - Atafu, Nukunonu, and Fakaofo - were settled about 1,000 years ago from Samoa.

Nope. I’m Tongan here. I don’t think Tongans came from Samoa and I don’t think Samoa was part of Tonga. I honestly think we were all one nation once upon a time. And just happen to be very similar with one another. You know how in school - there are 7 continents in the world? Coz that’s what the white man tells us right? Well how about that there was an 8th - look up the Island of Mū. It’s hard to find. Well that’s because it’s hard to find on purpose since it’s the closest to the truth. There were ancient texts from other nations to acclaim this. Trust me. Once you go down the rabbit hole - it all somewhat makes sense…
