  • Sālote Tupou III was the Queen of Tonga from 1918 to 1965. She reigned for nearly 48 years, longer than any other Tongan monarch.
She was a highly popular Tongan monarch and standing at 6 foot 3 inches tall, Queen Salote was an imposing figure, but photographs reveal a near-constant smile.
Queen Salote was noted for recognising the modern change in attitudes towards women and cautioned against what she considered were male centric faka palangi ways, where Tongans aspired to a European lifestyle.

I'm half Samoan... descendant of Queen Salamasina of Samoa who's mother was a Tongan Princess Vaetoefaga( please excuse if I mispelled). I absolutely adore Queen Salote. My mother, and, families in Samoa actually hung out in Samoa when HRH Taufa'ahau was a boy. All I heard was she was a picture of Grace, and, Beauty like my distant relative To'oa Salamasina who was influential in spreading beauty, and, grace in person to the young girls of Tonga, and, Samoa. TOKOUSO❤. We're all connected.

Thank you so much for sharing your story of the importance of culture is to you. As a palagi, my mother met my step father when I was only 6, I adored him straight away and our bond was closer than any daughter father could be. It is funny as I married a Samoan boy, our father Tongan and Samoa were old drink, fight and laugh all night long. He has now passed from cancer and boy I miss him but I am so proud to call
    Myself a Tupou!

Queen Salote was not her father's only child, he had six children. Also her second son did not die at birth, he was 16.

Her second son perished at an early age. The other children are illegitimate so in Tongan society they only take after their mothers side and are excluded from succession
