      I don’t have the B roll or fancy editing most have. That just seems like fluff. My philosophy is get to the point , make it understandable and go.

      You have a great formula for presenting the information. That B roll can (and often does) get in the way of the information. Don't change what you are doing.

    Hey John, in a previous video you had referenced Jake blow and I watched one of his videos and he combined a switch grass planting with your Northwood Whitetail screening and I was wondering how you would put those down if they were put down together I normally rent the gGreat Plains drill from the NRCS department, I think you mentioned having a video maybe in the future regarding the set up of that drill and I think that would be a great benefit to many people that rent those drills. Thanks for all the great info!

    Great video. I would really like to see that maintenance video. Drilled switch last year in driftless area of WI. It took a long time to come up but it did and then when we got rain we got some growth. I would love to hear what I can do to get and keep it rolling this year assuming we get rain.

    Hi John,
    I’d like to see a photo album on your site that shows switch grass emerging, at 1 or 2 inches etc. a lot of people have a hard time determining if their switch is coming in or if it’s foxtail. People make spraying mistakes because they don’t know what they’re looking at.

    One thing I've learned about planting NWSG: plant whichever type(s) you see naturally growing in your location. When I've planted types not growing in my area, they've generally failed to establish and persist.

      We have seen RC Bigrock grow from Canada to Alabama. Maine to west Iowa and all point’s in between.
      This is definitely a different option than most .

    Awesome content, John. You are emphasizing NO roundup on seed that’s on the ground, but what about simazine? We have bare ground going into winter, via discing, so we plan to frost seed in March. Can we still spray simazine on that frost seeded switch?

    • @northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663
      @northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663  Před 5 měsíci +2

      You can
      But if it’s freshly disced you may hav to spray a few times in the spring before seeding:
      Simazine won’t do much on many of the grasses.

    Great video John, thank your sharing! In regards to screening the edge of a food plot, is there a screen width that you recommend? I was planning on doing 20’ wide but don’t want to make it so wide that they bed in the screening strip. The strip will butt up to an ag field which gets sprayed, so i thought making it wider would account for any possible overspray from the farmer on the edge of the strip. Sounds like if it’s planted thick enough them bedding in it is not really a concern? Any advice is appreciated, thanks again!

    • @northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663
      @northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663  Před 5 měsíci +1

      15-20 wide if you expect to loose some.

    • @timhatfield6367
      @timhatfield6367 Před 5 měsíci +1

      Same situation here.. I have a new screen switch grass 15' wide HD screen 10'wide.660'×25' separating from an open ag field. It's 100' out from the edge, and it created a buffer or screen. I planted buckwheat then sprayed it 6 weeks later and planted winter rye. It really made it so the deer and turkeys came
      outside of the woods a lot during the day.
      As far as the farmers sprayer guy, he killed over half of the south end of this strip.
      So I guess I need to have a civilized talk with our farm ground renter so it doesn't repeat itself.
      Good luck, John knows his stuff.

    Great info John! Question-does the RC Switchgrass need to be stratified before planting?

    Hey John,
    Great video. Quick question on ground prep. I have a 5 acres alfalfa field that has been maintained and produces great. But I want to turn that into a bedding area as we have plenty of food on the farm but not enough beddings.
    So my question. I have a well managed field without weeds but with alfalfa. Should I kill the alfalfa in the spring as soon as it starts to green and then boardcast over it or would you recommend killing it, tilling it, allowing it green again and then killing it again and planting.

    Hey John, as always great info! Question, my property is down south - South Carolina and weather has been all over the place. I frost seeded some RC Big Rock back in early January. Have gotten some pretty cold temps, down in the 20's and high teens a couple of times. Now, though, temps are getting back up and it looks like it's going to be a very mild winter. I mean temps up in the upper 70's this week then pretty consistently mid 50's-mid/upper 60's. My question/concern is, with temps up like that, should any of that switch start to germinate, and we get a late frost or 2 in March, will it kill it since it's new and not established yet????

    John, if you put the RC Switchgrass seed on bare ground/tilled ground with tree canopy over head, let’s say partial sunlight, how tall do you think it would grow? Or would it not grow at all? Thanks as always man

    I have a field below my shop they will have food plot on inside and switch on the outside perimeter. I main question is the risk of Simazine I am reading how bad this stuff is for us. And also I have free range chickens on my property how bad will that be and for how long for them before it’s safe to graze the areas?

      Do not spray the food plot with Simazine

      @@northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663 ok thank you just isolate spraying for the switch areas. Glad you said that I was going to do entire field. If I skipped the simazine I’m assuming my weed control would be much harder to contain. I could till it and maybe eliminate the simazine step?

      It depends what’s all there.
      If it’s heavy weeds with switchgrass mixed it , you may have to start over.
      If it’s just thin with open areas it’s possible to just overseed
