    Topic Idea: Detail switchgrass strategy on your property. Why you planted the shapes/rows you did? What’s the planting density of those different areas? The maintenance steps you take for each area in year 1, 2, 3…

      @Number 1 Fan Yes, alone it’s not bedding. I’m asking about when he’s done Ag (or field or CRP) conversions to switchgrass with regen pockets for bedding areas - seeing a real world example of this idea. I don’t think he’s doing it on his farm at all but would like to see some video where he has done it. I don’t have lots of timber for bedding so I’m doing it myself on my farm. Thank you for trying to help though.

    2 quick questions for you in regards to this topic. In a few of your past videos you stated that you once attempted to grow your lawn using your Ultimate No Till Buckwheat method. So my questions are...
    1. Would the Ultimate No Till Buckwheat method work for growing a stand of Switchgrass?
    2. Just curious about how your lawn turned out? Was considering attempting on my own lol
    Thanks,

    I appreciate your attention to detail. "I shot the Blade Buck at ABOUT 254 yds". Switch is hard to come by, and almost doubled in price, great follow up on your 4 ways video from last year. Thoughts on spraying gly at first green up but before the 1 yr old switch has woke up?

    • @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
      @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Rob...thanks...the details, ha 😊
      You definitely can not spray gly on the 1 year old switch...the switch will emerge immediately with Spring green up, or close enough that the risk of killing it all is too great.
      Simazine before spring green up is a great aid and then mowing in May when weeds and switch are 10-12" high is great!

    I just heard of a well known deer hunter that put his switch grass in a freezer for several days, then out, then back in, etc. He did this and said it worked to have seeds stratify. He did those in lieu of frost seeding. Have you ever heard of anybody doing this?

    • @northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663
      @northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663 Před 2 lety

      You need moisture (similar to being outside exposed to the elements)
      In and out of a freezer alone won’t work.

    Jeff, have you tried Outrider right before planting after 2-3 burn downs? We battle Johnsongrass out here in the Midsouth. It is a little pricey, but a quart goes a long way. Outrider can also be used to control a lot of nasty weeds post emergent after the first year of switchgrass establishment.

    Jeff love the content. Your first method you stated you sprayed to kill a few times in the spring and planted switch in June the same year with success. I have a farmer that has been working a hay field for 3 years and I plan to take a portion and plant switch for screening. If I start spraying to kill after spring green up this year and seed early to mid June same year would this method have success or would I be better off killing this year and frost seeding next spring?

      Plant the switchgrass along side it if you can. If it’s a east to west screen keep switchgrass on south side.
      Hd screen will work this year, switchgrass will work long term. Hope that makes sense.
