Grow your best food plot screen. Part 2
Sure is great information and great products!
Been working on this for a while.
If you are using both liquid and ag lime on significantly low ph soil, would you use half of the rate for the 3 cal and half the ag lime rate from the soil test?
I’d still do some ag lime in spring 2-3 gallons at fall planting if it’s 4-5 ph
Most of my pH’s are 5.3-5.4 with CEC’s of 4-4.8
We use a 4 gal. backpack sprayer. How much do we use for 1/4 acre plots? Do you mix 1/4 of the gallon jug into a 5 gallon bucket and use per plot?
Probably 1/5 to 1/6 Need alot of water to push through that nozzle
So excited that you guys are venturing together to help the food plot community. I've talked to Brad a couple times about his products and he always responded and answered my questions, especially about Liquid Lime. I will be ordering soon!
At this point I don’t think any evidence or science could convince John that tilling is bad for soil lol…
If it’s 12 inch ripper after corn year after year , yes that’s bad. Our one inch deep tilling once a year is not as bad as the no till cult wants you to believe. Covid shot is good : Science Covid shot is bad : science Global warming is real : science Global warming is fake: science Tilling is bad:science Tilling is fine:science lol I base my opinions on my own experience. When my soil test says my soil is improving, I trust the science 😉
It could
I was prepping an area for next year’s switchgrass and had leftover chemical (glyphosate, 24D, Simazine) in the tank. I completely forgot I had added Simazine (2 qts/acre) and I went back to some fall food plots to cover areas I missed the week before and empty the tank. Will the simazine negatively impact my fall plantings of brassica and rye 2 weeks after the spray?
Is it available in a 55 gallon drum?
I’m sure we can load one here Not sure about shipping it
My ph levels were 6.1 and 5.4 before spraying.
Great video! Planted 3 food plots last Saturday with your crimson clover and brassica mix, fertilized with 19-19-19 (100lbs per acre) noticed incredible germination Wednesday, sprayed with your 3-Cal Thursday (25gallons per acre) no problems with sprayer. Looking forward to see progress in the coming weeks! Great products! Thanks!
Hey guys great info but maybe you can briefly touch base on New York Catskills I’m sure the problems we have regarding soils are different than those of up of Mich just saying
You guys started to talk about storage but never got into it. Hopefully that can be covered on the next video. Very informative conversation overall though.
Lol yes we discussed off camera what was that thing we were supposed to come back to and forgot it was storage but yes, we will definitely hit that on the next discussion coming up soon thank you
You can mix the lime with glyso...does either lose any of its effectiveness?
No, I don’t it affects the lime But best to spray separately
@@northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663 if you mix GLY with dirty pond water it loses almost all it's effectiveness, it binds to particles in the water. I would test a small patch of a lime/gly mix before counting on it. Just my 2 cents. Keep up the good work !
I use to use liquid lime in the mid 90s in a hydro seeder and the jugs where a solid block of lime it took a lot of work to mix it in the jug.Is that the issue with this brand?
No
@@northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663 we used a paint mixer on a cordless drill, mixed good and stayed in suspension.
Is this a replacement for ag lime? How long does it last in the soil?
One year
Sounds like exciting new products
Great info guys. Thank you
I love all this talk of rain in late July and in August.. 😅
Is this the same thing as Plot Start ?
No Not even close That is brown and from calcium chloride. The same stuff that is sprayed on highways before a snow storm to prevent ice from forming. Ours is from calcium carbonate and is white.
I know this is old, but you caught my ear with the Liberty. Are you still using this? I was researching it and was getting ready to start using it. I did see some information about not planting brassicas for 70 days after use. Its not that it kills them, but they retain something from the spray.
Only my first spraying in the spring I don’t use it in summer / fall.
John. Is it to late in the year to plant clover 8/3? Planting 4 acres of NWW brassica this week and may put in last minute clover near bye. Please advise. Thank you Jeff
You can
Have a 2 lb bag of 360 seclusion. How much of a acre does that plant
1/3
I planted some. Does the stem on this grass look different than cave and rock? And not purple?
Just put in today. Added radish and had a bag of seclusion and about 2 lbs of red clover. Spread it over 1 acre. Going to give it a week or 2 then hit it with clethidoum. I got a spring flooded field that is terrible weed fest. Imox never worked. Hit it twice over spring and summer.
Do the deer still eat the wet -blend clover?
Absolutely
Next weekend John. Your brassica mix is the BEST hands down,,,,!
We agree….. Nothing better!
Funny how if you listen to other CZcams celebs tell you how to plant seed, you get very poor/mixed results. But if you listen to John, it works 90+% of the time. Planted 600 yds of screen in late June using his RC Big Rock (after lots of ground prep), and by mid-July it was already 2" tall with excellent germination rate. We have never established a switchgrass screen as planting mid-summer with his advice.
Is it safe to plant in August I’m here in east tx
If there is rain and good soil moisture
Hey I got your clover blend plus chicory and it’s doing great. The other half of my food plot which is half an acre I sprayed packed disced and sprayed getting ready to plant this sweet feast but I got broadleaf and dang grass coming up in splotches. Is there something I can spray that won’t hurt me planting in 2-3 weeks ? Thanks love this channel and the seed is PHENOMENAL GUYS
Round up now and day before planting
@@northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663 thanks 🙏
That bag covers a half acre so it's roughly 4lb?
3 pounds
What is the best switchgrass for South Georgia?
We have Bigrock growing in north Georgia
I have that earthway seeder. It doesn’t have those settings. It just goes 1, 2, 3 etc. do you just hold it in between the settings?
Yes I would try that
What if you want to seed clover with it?
I have had luck with red clover, peas, buckwheat at a light rate. I would seed your white clover in early spring.
This will be my 3rd year using Sweet Feast Brassicas . This stuff is awesome.
I don't know what to believe. A salesman doesn't convince me. Unfortunately my location makes trucking in 16 tons of lime almost impossible.
Brad is more an agronomist than salesman. Check out our new products we just came out with in partnership with Brad .
Wow great products !!
I need that Calcium fix !! I don’t want to til it in and I hear that’s the best way to get it in. This sounds like a great alternative for me and my plots🌱
Can you mix it with with ap spectrum?
Yes
@northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663 What about mixing the starter with the ap? I'm going to have a little to much ap and don't want to save it.
@@BigWoods40you can
@northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663 Thanks John!
Just ordered some today!
Thanks
Been working with Brad and John for a few years now and couldn't be happier with there products
Good tips, thanks!
Going to get my stuff ones his dealer by my house has those new products👍 Great rant John.loved it all true stuff
I had a soil test would/ could you give your opinion on what you suggest to apply?
Brad can do the soil test recommendation
Good afternoon. I have your brassica blend and plan to plant it in the next few weeks. I also have your red clover that I was thinking about planting with the brassicas for a spring carryover plant that I can till under in late summer. Does this combination work? If so, what would you recommend for planting rates? TIA!
You can I like crimson for that Keep clover rate lower
I absolutely love the no nonsense approach that John takes. Not trying to push anything that hasn’t been proven. Not trying to push something that he knows will sell just because people are not educated.
Just watched and wondering if these products need to be applied separately and or if they can mixed to limit trips with the sprayer. Thanks.
They can all be applied at the same time, but not with herbicide
So is the liquid calcium more or less a gypsum equivalent?
It’s going to be much better than. Gypsum. It’s more efficient and can get much more calcium to the plants with very little amounts
Gotcha, my bigger concern is the extremely heavy clay soils. The plot I’m looking to start has several winter springs, so how long does the increased permeability last? Should it be applied annually?
Can you mix the liquid lime & the soil starter fertilizer to apply in 1 application? Or would they have to be applied separately?
You can mix them Just not with herbicide
@@northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663 Fantastic! Just what I was hoping for
This is awesome
Is the the lime . Real lime . Where i can stop using pellet lime
Yes Calcium carbonate
How many lbs of pelletized lime does 1 gallon of liquid lime equate to?
It all depends on the CCE of the lime but on avg anywhere from 1500-1800lbs of pel lime
