    Just to be perfectly clear, I love the progression in career mode, it should be this way, in fact I still think you get cars too easy and I also think there are way too many cars, they don't become personal, you just throw them out when the next car with more HP comes along. The custom mode should IMO give all access so you can really enjoy the game you spent £70 purchasing. I can load up Grid and play any car on any circuit against any opposition, it's brilliant, you should be able to do this on GT7

      Thank you very much for the review and highlighting the cluster duck of the microtransactions and grinding system to unlock everything. These are the things I want in a review, the game has received so much positivity that the negatives have been overlooked.

      His argument was that the game lacks a custom mode where you can race whatever, where ever you want (assumably vs AI) and instead locks everything behind a single player career mode grind.
      Which is totally valid as I would think anyone not familiar to GT games would have that same expectation since any other game has no problem having a custom mode.
      I literally had to grind my way through the whole story of GT7 to get to do a custom race on Lemans. It shouldnt take that long (which was several days of playsessions) to get to play a custom race on a track I really like. Anyone who defends this doesn't understand it is lack of, or just plain bad gamedesign.

      Biased much? He stated that the career mode is fine, have the progression and unlocks but paying £70 without an option to play a custom game mode, where the player is free to drive what they want, where they want is unacceptable and I agree with him. They're restricting the freedom and creating a huge grind to pressure us in to the use of microtransactions, it's a tactic that's been in use for a while now. Its not a game I'll be picking up that's for sure, I stopped at GT4 and I think that was the pinnacle of the series.

  • @loto7197
    @loto7197 Před 2 lety +95

    I imagine it's difficult to approach GT7 without being already acquainted with the series.
    I've always viewed it as something of a racing driver RPG, if that makes sense. It certainly isn't trying to do what other racing games are doing, and I can understand why certain features are locked away; this is polyphony's game design, not an inherent flaw.
    In these games you take on the role of a driver, one that begins in low class races with low tier vehicles. It's up to you go grind your way to the top and get those cool cars along the way.
    I think you turned this game on with the wrong mindset. Really think about the formula they are implementing here, and have done in past iterations. You don't just open up a role playing game and say "I paid 70 bucks, I want to fight the main bad guy with the best armor and sword, I should be able to do all of that now". It's not that kind of game, you have to realize that.
    If it's not for you, that's another matter entirely.

    • @jeffvella9765
      @jeffvella9765 Před 2 lety +10

      Geez you seriously claim that you are acquainted with the series????
      I have GT and GT2 and I competed in the official GT competitions way back on PS and I do not remember ever this nonsense in a GT game.
      You had an arcade mode where you get to play with most cars and the good cars were never hidden behind a grind wall or a pay wall. In just finishing the license gold you get some of the best and cool cars and it only took like 4 hrs to finish them all.
      It was about merit and not grind/time.
      It was an RPG like back then, but now it is grind fest to boost MT.
      I cannot believe that there are people that cannot see that the grind is only there for the MT.
      + always online for a single player game is unacceptable and definitely has nothing to do with the with the series.

      Yes but if I want to race my mate on split screen, I want to access all the cars and tracks, or at least a good amount. I'm a Forza player generally and they are now doing the same thing! Gone are the days when I could boot FM3 up and just hot lap a beast, without having to unlock it!

      @@jeffvella9765 Every GT has held arcade mode items behind single player progression. Even in the first Gran Turismo, you began the game with 6 manufacturers and had to unlock the other 4.
      Every game since GT2 has gradually increased the roster of unlockable cars whilst reducing the roster of cars you can already play with. EVERY S-Class car in GT2 was an unlockable, none of the top tier cars were ready to play, which is where my initial point lies. It's only gone further down this route as the series progressed.
      I completely agree with you on the always on single player, though. That aspect is absolutely insufferable.

    • @jeffvella9765
      @jeffvella9765 Před 2 lety +1

      @@loto7197 In Arcade mode in GT2 you had most cars available, not the best but most. Also the entire argument was about the top tier cars and not necessarily the fastest. Eg a toyota supra is a top tier car and it was available. True that your own toyota supra would be twice or 3 times better but not having the option to play with the top tier cars at least to get an idea is a feature that was removed and nothing replaced it.
      The idea of paying more for less (cutting content and features) started with GT3 and some smart people saw it coming and boycotted GT3 for it.
      It is the reason why GT3 was less successful world wide than GT2/GT
      Most just gave up on GT and went to PC gaming where they found all the features of GT without the grind/MT and new features added like VR support. Which BTW is a disgrace to release a racing game without one in 2022.
      Which adds to the list of disgraces GT7 has, like:
      -Always online for single player to save
      -MT in single player
      --Split screen co-op and VS behind Grind wall and you also need to be online.
      Anyone of those reasons deserves a boycot by itself.
      Absolutely disgraceful.

It’s just going to be a slippery slope unless we say “No” and hold a line. It may seem a little ridiculous and over the top, but if this is the way gaming is going, then I want no part of it. I remember when micro transactions were being wildly introduced around 2010 and everyone thought it was a little faze of game producers. I just want to pay £40 for a decent game and that be it. No offline game should require an online connection. Not only is it not practical, but it doesn’t even make sense.

    I have not played this title , but Grand Turismo has always been a slightly grindy game , you're not supposed to take it in fast , it's not a zoomer quick fix, you're meant to grow attached to your cars , there were licences you had to do before even you could do a track and that could often take up to couple of hours alone.
    A slow burn career is what it has always been. The point is to go from rags to riches.
    Later on the difficulty spikes , because faster cars are more difficult to handle in grand scheme of things, doing Dodge Viper Run On Laguna seca was initially nightmare , before you learned how the car behaves. What you do to get a lot of cash is Look for Endurance races, which are anything between 30 to 100 laps , you'd be racing anywhere betwen 1 hour to 6 hours. That used to award unique car and big cash awards. An Actual Challenge for once
    Having said that I have no idea how it is in GT 7 , maybe it's changed that much? Maybe the design choice does not stand up to test of time with today's gaming audience.
    Personally I've had it with games that Give you End game cars after 4-5 races , most Racing games don't even have a career mode. I take Grindy Career over sandbox any day.
    One thing is for sure tho I ain't buying ANY game that costs that much and fuck microtransactions in bought game.

Having them locked off gives me something to work towards so that the first time I use them (car or track) makes for a more immersive experience.
    The online and Micro transactions are absolutely absurd. The cafe is kinda dumb. But for me, the atmosphere surrounding this game is so chill and relaxing.
    There are plenty of other racing games that do what you want. Just a quick and easy custom race with your dream car and settings.

    A PS5 game I would recommend is Returnal. It kind of pretends to have x-ray vision, but it's really just a way of seeing geometry. Otherwise, it's a roguelike with a big production value budget for once, and a decent third-person shooter without cover or hitscan.

      I doubt many will spend money buying currency. Most GT players enjoy the career mode and want to climb there way up the ladder. Mac just seems to want everything handed to him at the start. Which is fine, but that's not Gran Turismo.

      @@nicholasmills6489 X-Ray vision makes the game mechanically easier. You have an advantage over an opponent not using X-ray vision. Having the option for a custom match does not make the game mechanically easier, you are still on an even playing field with the opponent, you have to drive to the same skill level. The only thing it does is respect a player's time. This is how multipayer and custom modes used to work, everyone has access to everything and skill determines who wins. Not who has grinded the most.
      "He should judge how fans of the game will receive the game because we ultimately want to know if the game is suitable for us."
      Mack has had plenty of bad takes on a game, but that's his decision. How can he know what fans will think, say it's his first game in a series and is happy with it but veteran players are unhappy because something was changed from the last one? It's impossible, he can only give his own opinion and you should make up your own mind as to whether you want to buy the game. And you can always watch another review if you aren't decided.

Just seems a bit odd and a waste of everyone's time. Not much of a shocker that a channel that dislikes console games, dislikes a console game! It was a fair review, and he did end up thumbing it up. I play both PC and console, and I appreciate that he didn't simply hammer it for being a console game. To me, it was not a waste of time. If anything, I am now more interested in buying this game since I never played a Gran Turismo game for any length of time. I’ll have to disagree with your view on the games progression. I think it’s nice that you have to work hard to be able to unlock everything. It would be boring and overwhelming if you had freedom to do anything from start. Also the whole micro transaction thing, while I hate it, it’s part of almost all games now a days and it’s here to stay. I actually think the game rewards you nicely with gifts and cars and money while you grind to not have to spend real money like regardless of how much you play like how it was in the crew. And graphically… really dude? Cars here look crazy good. The hud system is the biggest let down of this game so far. I don’t think GR is comparable with any other racing game. Comparing it to crew is like comparing souls to god of war. They might look the same but are completely different and for different people.
